People always think gift cards are just cards to sell to customers on holidays or
special events. They’re totally wrong.
It can be the best marketing system if done right.

STRATEGY #1
PASSING OUT GIFT CARDS
(DON’T BE CHEAP) Step 1: Order 500 gift cards with your salon’s
name/address/phone/address on it and insert about $5 into each card.
Step 2: Add gift card backers and envelopes if necessary to make the gift card more sincere and beautiful.
Step 3: Go to your local schools(teachers)/gyms/hospitals(nurses)/doctor offices/banks/festivals/events/yard sale and pass them out. Tell them you’re the owner of 123 salon and to support the community you’re giving out free gift cards for community residents. I usually pass out about 50-100 for each location.
Step 4: Prepare your staff because these new customers are coming in and going to use the gift cards very soon.
REASONS WHY GIFT CARD WILL ALWAYS
BE REDEEMED
Reason 1: Unlike a flyer or coupon people never throw away a gift card.
BECAUSE THEY KNOW THERE’S REAL MONEY IN IT!
Reason 2: They always keep it inside their purses or somewhere safe.
Reason 3: The gift card has your salon’s name, address and phone
number. A great marketing tool to expand your brand. They will
eventually show up at your door or call to make an appointment.
Reason 4: At least 80% of the people will redeem the gift card vs. 1% for
direct mail marketing of coupons or flyers.
Reason 5: Their next visit will be to your salon not your competitors
because they have your gift card.

STRATEGY #2
CHARGE UP THE CARD
When a new client redeems and pays for their service, ask them to
charge back their card for 10-15% more. Like spend $50 you’ll get $5
or $100 get $15.
The reason for this promo is because you never want a new client to
walk out of the door and never come back.
They will always return to you because they still have money in that
card.
STRATEGY #3
HAND OUT 2 CARDS INSTEAD OF 1
Hand out two gift cards not one. $50 get $5 or $100 get $15, don’t
give it all in one card. Tell them here’s your $100 card and here’s $15
card that we promised.
The customer now has 2 cards meaning they will give $100 card to
person A and $15 to person B at their next party.
Do this for special holidays too. Like mother’s day, valentines, Christmas
etc.
Because 2 new customers is always better than 1
STRATEGY #4
VIP CUSTOMERS As a salon owner, you must know who your big spender are and must treat
them different.
If you don’t treat them like a VIP Member, most likely your competitors will and you’ll lose a big chunk of income.
Always have a Loyalty/VIP card for them. You can always give points or 10% rewards for these members.
VIP card is the greatest way to keep them coming back to you because the points and value inside the card can only be redeemed at your salon.
Everyone has 3 important types of people in their life (Families, Friends, Co-Workers). When they love your salon they have no hesitation to share your excellent service to their circle.1 VIP customers can turn into 3 new customers.

STRATEGY #5
I APOLOGIZE CARD
Always have 50-100 gift cards with $3-$5 in it. This will represent the I Apologize card.
Let’s say it’s Saturday and your salon is packed, a customer walks in and waited 5-10 minutes then suddenly walk out. 99% they are going to the salon next block.
Take this card, run to them and tell them “I’m so sorry, I’m so busy today but would really like to service you. Here is just something for making you wait so long.”
When they know there’s money in the card, most likely they will wait until tomorrow or next week to come back to your salon.
An apologize card strategy is an effective method to make sure that customer will remain your customer and not visit your competitor.
STRATEGY #6
MON-WED CARD
Always have about 50 of a Mon-Wed gift card available at all time.
Let’s say somehow your employee did something to piss a client off or
your whole staff are being so loud, take this card and go to the
customer and apologize. Give them a mon-wed card and promise that
the next time they come back it will never happen again.
This is a good way to move some of your clients to a non-busy schedule
from Mon-Wed. Doing this will create better workflow and service to
your customers.

MAIL CARDS TO NEW HOME OWNERS
Go online and search in your Zip code or City of new home owners
who just move to the local area.
Take about 100 cards with a nice backer and envelope and mail them
out.
I guarantee you these new owners will try your salon first instead of
your competitor because they know they have real money gift card that
needed to be used.
Service them well and they will keep coming back for more.
