THAILAND HOSTED THE ih VIDEO CONFERENCE ON GLOBAL HEALTH SEC URITY AGENDA (GHSA) DETECT 1: NATIONAL LAB ORATORY SYSTEM Chaired by Dr. Sukhum Karnchanapimai, Director Generall of the Department of Medical Sciences (DMSc), Ministry of Public Health, Thailand, 7 to 8.30 pm (Thailand time) on 22 November 2016, Thailand successfully hosted the ih video conference for Detect 1. It was attended by 25 participants representing of lead countries (USA, South Africa and Thailand), contributing countries (Canada and Georgia) as well as key development partners including USAID (Thailand , Indonesia and Headquarter), FAO RAP and Thailand MOPH US CDC. Highlights of this video conference are as follows: D Noting and welcoming Dr. Sukhum Karnchanapimai as a new Director General of the DMSc; D Announcing the 2 nd Regional Workshop of GHSA Detect 1, " Enhancing Joint Collaborative Efforts for Lab Preparedness", 7-9 February 2017, Bangkok, Thailand; The event will be jointly hosted by the Thai Government through Ministry of Public Health and Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperative, as a the first enabling platform to fostering collaborative efforts between human and animal health laboratories in light of "One Health Approach". Sharing experiences will be emphasized through the site visits of laboratories on AMR as well sharing experiences among key affected countries and participants. It is expecting about 100-130 participants from lead countries, contributing countries, A SEAN, SAARC countries, and Timor Leste as well as key development partners. HEALTH SECURITY AGENDA (GHSA) DETECT 1: NATIONAL

LABORATORY SYSTEM

To name a few, upcoming regional activities include:

1) Establishment of ASEAN Biosafety Network through a meeting of focal points from ASEAN Member States to be held in January 2017;

2) Training courses on Biological Safety Cabinet Technology and Certification, "training for trainers" to be held in May 2017;

3) Training course on Stepwise Laboratory Development towards National Accreditation to be held in January 2017; and

4) Needs assessment on packaging and training transportation including biosafety and biosecurity competency by means of questionnaire to be circulated to relevant countries in November 2017;

GHSA, launched in 2014 to promote global health security as an international security

priority, aims to enhance and complement an implementation of an International Health

Regulation 2005 through identified 11 Action Packages. Among others, Thailand takes

leadership on the two Actions Packages including "Detect 1: National Laboratory System

Strengthening" and "Detect 5: Workforce Development".
