30TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

In today’s gospel, Jesus asks the blind Bartimaeus, “What do you want me to do for you?” Bartimaeus answers, “Rabboni, that I may see again.” (The word “Rabboni” appears only here and when Mary recognizes the risen Christ outside the tomb. It is a reverent form of “Rabbi”.) The blind man’s petition is very different from that of James and John, that we heard last Sunday. He asks not to be seen, but to see - not for honor, but for vision; not to be superior to ordinary people, but to become ordinary himself; not to rule over others, but to join them in their experience of a normal life.

Ask yourself: What is the sight that you wish to ask Jesus for today? What is it that you need to see? Jesus may give you your sight in an unexpected or unusual way. Truly look at each person you encounter and truly be attentive. They may appreciate a few minutes of your time and attention or perhaps they simply need the recognition that you have seen them.

Give thanks today for the people who notice and see you. They have given you a great gift. In return, share this seemingly small, but loving, gift with others.

En el evangelio de hoy, Jesús le pregunta al ciego Bartimeo: "¿Qué quieres que haga por ti?" Bartimeo responde: "Rabboni, para que pueda volver a ver". (La palabra "Rabboni" aparece sólo aquí y cuando María reconoce a Cristo resucitado fuera de la tumba. Es una forma reverente de "Rabino".) La petición del ciego es muy diferente de la de Santiago y Juan, que escuchamos el domingo pasado. Pide no ser visto, sino ver; no por honor, sino por visión; no para ser superior a la gente común, sino para llegar a ser ordinario él mismo; no para gobernar sobre los demás, sino para unirse a ellos en su experiencia de una vida normal.

Pregúntate: ¿Cuál es la vista que deseas pedirle a Jesús hoy? ¿Qué es lo que necesitas ver? Jesús puede darte la vista de una manera inesperada o

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. We are looking at how we can better serve our elementary students and those youth who cannot attend youth events on Wednesday evenings.
