From the Principal’s Desk Excursions You would all be aware that bushfires are having a devastating impact in NSW. Some staff and members of our school communities have been personally impacted by the situation. As the safety of our students and staff is our main priority, I have had to postpone and cancel a number of excursions. It was a decision that was made in consultation with our Director, Mr. Mark Young, fire updates from NSW Rural Fire and the School Executive team. I understand that many students and families may have been disappointed by these decisions but it was made to ensure everyone’s safety and wellbeing. However, we have been able to reschedule the Great Aussie Bush Camp for later in the term and our students in Year 4 are able to attend Lake Keepit along with Year 3 if they choose to do so. If you require additional information regarding the above mentioned excursions please contact our office staff. Parents please remember to return the blue notes if your child is attending the excursions. Year 5 / Staff Vote – Leaders 2020 This Friday, Year 5 and staff will vote for the students who will hold a leadership position in 2020. There will be ten students selected for the opportunity to stand for a Captain or Officer position. The top ten candidates are informed of their successful selection at a Year 5 only assembly. At a special whole school assembly, the candidates must address the student body as to why they should be elected for a school leadership position. These speeches will be delivered on Wednesday 27 November 2019 at a time to be confirmed later. On Thursday 5 December 2019, students nominating for House Captain will address the students from their house to put their case as to why they should be elected House Captain. House Captain Elections will take place after the ten School Leadership candidates have been determined. A time for the House Captain speeches will be confirmed later. Pool Fees Just a reminder that students of Quirindi Public School do not have to pay a fee to enter the Quirindi Pool. This will remain in place until the 31 December 2019. It is unclear as to whether or not this will continue in 2020. But we will certainly let you know if this is the case. Classes - 2020 We are now beginning to look at our class structures for the 2020 school year. If you have any special requests or know that you will no longer be in the Quirindi community in 2020, it would be greatly appreciated if you could provide written advice outlining your circumstances. Requests/notifications can be handed to the office in a sealed envelope, marked 'Confidential: To the Principal'. Obviously not all requests can be fulfilled but we will do our best to provide our students the best possible learning environments. Kirsty Matthews – Relieving Principal

At the time of preparing this, there are 72 bushfires raging in NSW. What a terrible situation. Here’s a great planning resource to do with your children. http://www.bushfirecrc.com/sites/default/files/managed/resource/involve_your_kids_-_bushfire_survival_planning.pdf All the talk of bushfires can be upsetting for children. The above link is a great resource to discuss with your children. There is help also at school and with helplines. 2019 CAPERS Wow!!! What a week some of our students had last week participating and watching CAPERS! Thank you to all those that helped in any way. A special mention must go to Alexandra Frith and Hayley Munro who were featured artists. They were fantastic! Here are what the kids thought of the experience: “At CAPERS we danced. We had to sit in a big tent. My favourite part was the “Dancing in the Street Finale.” – Archie Webster “Last week I performed at CAPERS. It was an amazing experience working with the featured artists. CAPERS was so much fun and I would love to do it again.” – Alexandra Frith “Performing at CAPERS was an amazing experience working with such talented people. It was so much fun and something I will remember for the rest of my life.” – Hayley Munro
Library As we near the end of the school year, can everyone have a good look around the house for any library books that may have been borrowed during the year. We have a large number of outstanding long-term overdue library books. These are essential resources for our school and we’d love for them to be returned. If you come across any of our library books over the next few weeks, can you please place them in the returns box in the library.
Lions Club Peace Poster Competition Some of our students recently entered the Lions Club Peace Poster Competition. Congratulations to Evie Gimbert who was the winner and her entry was taken to the next level. Mrs Mannion was here to present their certificates.
