Don’t forget to wear your school hat. Hats are available from the school office too. If you can’t get in on Mondays please fill out an order form (available at the school office or online). We will fill the order and leave it in the office for you. If you ordered a NEW sport skort, it has come in. If you would like to order one please pop in on Mondays… We have some in stock, if we run out we can order more. If anyone would like to volunteer that would be awesome… Volunteers always needed. Thank you all for donations too. See you Mondays, Denise.

Eglinton Public School has been using Scholastic Book Club’s online ordering system, LOOP for parents, for 2 years now and will no longer be taking cash or cheque orders for Book Club at school. All orders will need to be placed through Scholastic’s LOOP for parents and paid for online. Instructions are on the back of your student catalogue. LOOP for parents is easy to setup and even easier to use, with more details about the books and other items listed in the catalogue. Browse to scholastic.com.au/LOOP and click on the link to Register, entering your details and child’s name and class. Mr Peters

Next week, on Tuesday the 13th of February the canteen will be closed for the whole day due to our swimming carnival and we will be back trading as normal on Wednesday February 14th. Thank you. Amanda Lewis 0429 951 665

All children from years 3-6 who have nominated to swim , including those year 2 children who turn eight years old this year (born 2010) will be attending for the day’s swimming events. Notes have been sent home with details of the day and should now have been returned to your child’s teacher. Parents are most welcome to attend to support their child. An admission charge of $2.00 will be payable by all spectators upon entry to the pool. We look forward to a great day of sporting competition. New Kinders Starting school is a milestone in your child’s life. It is exciting but it can also be challenging for your child and yourself. Issues like being away from mum/dad for a long time each day, the noise/movement in a large playground and new routines take time to get used to. Fortunately, anxious feelings about being at school are usually temporary as the new kinders start too enjoy playing with their classmates and learning new things. Some Tips to Help your Child Settle. 1. Talk up learning and playing with friends at

school in a positive way. 2. If you are anxious (and this is common),

recognise this and give your child the impression that you are relaxed and positive about school. Be careful of what you say but also your body language. Your child may ‘catch’ your anxiety.

3. Take your child in to school and (initially) seek a ‘handover’ with the teacher. Older siblings and pre-school friends may also be a settling influence.

4. Kiss/hug your child, turn and GO A.S.A.P If you hover or look uncertain your child will tend to get anxious as well.

5. You are not alone. Talk to your child’s teacher, they are very experienced at helping children settle in at school.

6. If you suspect that your child will have major difficulties settling in to school then perhaps drop in to see me or call me at school. I am usually at school on Mondays and Thursdays.

7. Keep calm and positive and enjoy this new milestone with your child.
