Guidelines for Essay – Due on December 3rd

The student will be responsible for writing one (1) critical essay on a selected video or chapter reading. The essay must be 2-3 pages, type-written, double –spaced, with the font no larger than #12. Please add a bibliography to your essay if you refer to any other reading or website sources. This is not a research assignment, so please write the paper using mostly your words, thoughts, and opinions. This course will provide the following topics for essays:

a. Film b. Drama c. Music d. Literature e. Painting f. Sculpture

Based upon your readings and viewing of the video material, select one of the above topics and describe the process of creating the work. Explain which works of your topic (art, literature, film, etc.) were the most interesting to you. What benefits does society receive from the topic that you have selected? An example: If you selected the topic painting, you could write about the different media of painting and the different principles of painting. You could mention an artist, such as Van Gogh and write about what you liked or disliked about his work. Finally, you would express your opinions on how painting has been a benefit to society.
