SO WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I TOAST MY SLICE OF BREAD?
![Page 15: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
So what happens…With a HEMA toaster
![Page 16: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
So what happens…1. Plug in the toaster

![Page 17: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
So what happens…When you turn the
switch?
Variable resistor
![Page 18: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
So what happens…Pick an extra option?
Extra resistors
LED

So what happens…When I push down the
handle?
![Page 20: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
So what happens…
Plastic component ↓
Lubicant axes
When I push down the
handle?
![Page 21: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
So what happens…Contacts close – lubicant – electrical circuit
When I push down the
handle?
![Page 22: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
So what happens…Nichrome wires start toasting
When I push down the
handle?
![Page 23: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
So what happens…Electromagnet – metal tab
When I push down the
handle?
![Page 24: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
So what happens…Selfpositioning slot
When I push down the
handle?
![Page 25: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
So what happens…Selfpositioning slot
When I push down the
handle?
![Page 26: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
So what happens…Spring 1: stretches Spring 2: moves
down
When I push down the
handle?
![Page 27: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
So what happens…
Capacitor charges
through resistor
= timer
When I wait?
![Page 28: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
So what happens…Electromagnet is cut off and lets go
When I wait?
![Page 29: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
So what happens…Spring 1: relaxes Spring 2: stops
components
When I wait?
![Page 30: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
So what happens…Plastic tab – pulled upwards – contacts broken
When I wait?
![Page 31: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/31.jpg)
So what happens…Power to
nichrome wires
cut off
When I wait?
![Page 32: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)
So what happens…Selfpositioning slot
When I wait?
![Page 33: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)
So what happens…Selfpositioning slot
When I wait?
![Page 34: Technology of a toaster](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052601/5596eb2e1a28abe81d8b46f6/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)
So what happens…Normal Closed
↓
Power is cut off
Electromagnet releases tray
Springs relaxes and pulls up the tray with toast
Contact for nichrome wiresis broken
…
When I push ‘stop’?
