Message from the Head of the Preparatory School

I would like to welcome you to Trinity Grammar Preparatory School. I trust that today is the beginning of a long and very fulfilling time for your son and your family at our School. Orientation Day provides our new boys with a great opportunity to get to know some of their classmates for the following year and to spend time with next year’s teacher in next year’s classroom.

At Trinity Grammar School the partnership between home and school is particularly important. As such, I encourage you to maintain communication with the School through your son’s classroom teacher or by approaching one of the Primary Management team members through the School Office. Together we will work towards providing your son with a wonderful, all-round education in a caring and supportive environment.

I trust that your son finds today beneficial and enjoyable. I hope that the remainder of his year progresses smoothly and I look forward to welcoming him as a member of the Trinity community at the beginning of 2022.

Chris Wyatt | Head of the Preparatory School

KISS AND RIDE

Trinity is committed to a green travel plan and promotes the use of Public Transport options for students and staff. The Strathfield Campus is 1.3km from Strathfield Station. Many of our older Preparatory students make use of the public bus that departs from the bus stop immediately outside the School on The Boulevarde. The School bus arrives and departs from the bus stop on Llandilo Avenue outside the School.Learn more about trip routes, timetables, complete a Trinity Bus application and more on the Transport section of the School’s website https://www.trinity.nsw.edu.au/enrolments/transport-options/.When travelling by car, parents are to use the School’s Kiss and Ride zone provided in Llandilo Avenue on the northern side of the road to assist with the safe and efficient drop off and pick up of students. Learn more about traffic management and drop off / pick up options on the School’s websiteStudents in older years are encouraged to walk home (if nearby) or walk to a meeting point to meet parents at the end of the school day. This practice can support them growing in responsibility and independence and also helps to alleviate traffic congestion. If parents wish for their son to do this, please email the School Office to communicate the plan in advance..

A Kiss and Ride zone is provided on Llandilo Avenue on the northern side of the road to assist with the safe and efficient drop off and pick up of children attending Trinity Grammar Preparatory School. The Kiss and Ride Zone operates from 8:00am - 8:45am and 2:45pm - 4:00pm on gazetted school days. Families in Kindergarten to Year 6 are able to use this zone. To make this zone operate as safely and as smoothly as possible, Trinity Grammar Staff Members are on duty each morning (8:00am to 8:30am) and afternoon (2:45pm to 3:30pm) to assist with the operation of the zone. Parents are asked not to queue early as this is unnecessary and causes traffic congestion. General Kiss and Ride Guidelines• Students are not permitted to access the boot of their car at any time. This is to be done by an adult if necessary.• Students must enter and exit the vehicle on the curb side and are not permitted to walk between motor vehicles at any time.• Students should wait until the car reaches the section between the two gates adjacent to the playground before entering or exiting the vehicle.• Parking within Bus Zones is illegal at all times.Mornings• Students must have their bags and other belongings with them in the passenger seat and are not permitted to go to the boot of the vehicle.• Year 5 Buddies will be on duty to support younger students walking to their classroom under the supervision of teachers.• Pre-Kindergarten students are not permitted to use Kiss and Ride in the morning. Parents are required to walk the boys into school.Afternoons• Parents should arrive at the Kiss and Ride 5 to 10 minutes after their son’s finishing time to reduce the amount of traffic build up in the local area.• Parents are to have their son’s name clearly displayed on the left-hand corner of the windscreen. Signs may be ordered from the Preparatory School Office.• Years 3 to 6 parents should not join the Kiss and Ride queue until 3:15pm so that parents of Infants boys can collect them and reduce the traffic. If Year

3 to 6 parents join the queue before this time, they will be asked to drive around the block again.• If parents are at the beginning of the queue and an individual boy is not ready for some reason, parents will be asked to drive around the block again.• Parents that are unable to join the queue at the bottom of Llandilo Ave, because it is already too long (and has reached the ‘No Stopping’ sign) are not

to try and merge into the queue further up the road but to drive around the block again.• If the Kiss and Ride line is too long parents should consider parking in a nearby street and walking to the School to collect their son. Please be

considerate towards local residents by not parking across driveways.• Parents are to avoid doing u-turns in Llandilo Avenue to minimise risk to pedestrians and motorists.

A wide range of co-curricular activities are available to boys at the Preparatory School. Please check the activities carefully and note that some are age group restricted. Parents apply for the activities online and places are allocated by the relevant activity co-ordinator. There are group size limits for many of these activities and many of them incur additional charges. Don’t overtax your son, as he may already have heavy involvement in other areas. Such a programme is only possible through the consistent dedication and commitment displayed by so many of our staff members. Classes will commence early in Term 1.

Music

The School offers a three-tiered Music programme that integrates aspects of co-curricular and curricular study giving students a holistic and broad learning experience.

Group Instrumental Class: This programme is taught to all boys in Years 1, 2 and Year 4 during their classroom Music lesson. In Year 1 and 2 boys are given an experience of the cello and violin, one of which they will choose and progress to basic proficiency level during the following year. In Year 4, boys experience a range of orchestral woodwind, brass and percussion instruments developing their conceptual understanding of music in practical group lessons. As part of the class programme, parents are neither charged for lessons nor the hiring of instruments.

Individual Instrumental Tuition: For boys looking to extend their music study, the School offers individual tuition on a large range of instruments, also providing a range of methodologies to suit the individual student. Lessons are arranged in consultation with the music staff, the classroom teacher and the family. The Music department also provides guidance as to the appropriate age to begin formal instrumental lessons. There are additional charges for instrumental tuition.

Co-curricular Programme: Once a student has attained a sufficient level of basic skills on his instrument of choice, it is highly recommended that he participates in the co-curricular programme. The School offers ensembles in the Vocal, String and Concert Band areas as well as specialised chamber ensembles for further extension, i.e. Chamber Ensemble, Chapel Band and Saxophone Quartet. All ensembles have a vibrant yearly plan of rehearsals and public performance events.

Further information can be obtained directly from the Director of Preparatory School Music or from the School Office.

Music Instrumental Tuition: Information and details on Trinity’s musical instrumental tuition, including how to enrol, is in the Trinity Grammar School online Handbook. You will be asked to use your Trinity ICT log in to access.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Trinity Grammar School Preparatory School organises many individual and team sporting activities during the course of a year. These are organised in conjunction with the Association of the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA). Students participating in these sporting activities take part in practice and in competitions.

All boys from Years 4, 5 and 6 must participate in the Sports Programme set down for Inter-School and Intra-School fixtures on Saturday mornings.

Year 3 Year 3 are involved in an intra-school sports skills programme on Thursdays and after school on five Friday afternoons per term.

Each term will focus on a different sport and throughout the year boys will participate in Football, Rugby, Cricket and Basketball.

Years 4 to 6Boys in Years 4 to 6 have an opportunity to choose a Summer and Winter sport in which to participate throughout the respective seasons. Teams are chosen based on available places and the boy’s ability. If a child misses out on his preferred sport he is then provided the opportunity to join another activity. Games are played on Saturday mornings and are compulsory. It is important to note that School sport takes precedence over any club sport.

Inter-Seasonal SportsAll boys in Years 3 to 6 have the opportunity to be selected in the School’s Representative teams for inter-seasonal sports – Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country. These teams compete at Invitational and Selection carnivals against other independent schools. These sports also provide a pathway to C.I.S, PSSA and School Sport Australia Championships.
