Footy player profile

Agape “prince” Patolo is on top of the world after his Cleveland Cavaliers won game five against the Chicago bulls in the NBA. This is Agapes fourth NBA team he has

followed, after starting as a Bulls fan, heading over to Cleveland, then to Miami, then back to Cleveland… he is also a St Kilda supporter one to two times a year!

Patrick Chin is now an official adult after graduating from University during the week. Patty is so tied up in graduating that he couldn’t even find the time to do his much anticipated “chin wag” segment for the “Seagull Chatter” this week. We hope Chinny can find the time behind celebrations and what not next issue!

We are about to witness one of the great Break Ups of all time people. Forget Brad and Jen, forget Ross and Rachel ... Justin Smaluch is going to Europe for an extended stay which means his life partner, Michael Wallace, is losing him to the people overseas, Wal has already filled the vacancy with a new apparent girlfriend. While we don’t know what Europe holds for Juz, let’s hope he can recover emotionally by the time he gets there.

Jake “Pins” Genoni has given into reality and retired from football, or so he says, but much similar to his brother Luke “Little G” Genoni, we will more than likely see him on the park where he belongs sooner rather than later.

Matt Wade, fresh off another best on ground in a rep game, this time, cops v robbers is really feeling the education learnt from this one, having been heard to have used the phrase “when we played on Adelaide Oval” more than once.

Jordy Kelly is really racking them up in crickets Julio’s vs Nerd’s tally ... with three hook ups from three weekends, he is making inroads on and off the field, with his last one set to “set him up for life”.

Ben Hallas or BJ as he calls himself, is getting a lot of lookalike comments around the club, from Anthony Hudson, to Mark Howard to Mr Burns, we will leave it up to the fans to decide???

Tooradin Seagull “Chips”NEWS AND REVIEWS FROM AROUND THE CLUB

TDFC v ROC–a great history The rivalry between Tooradin Dalmore and ROC has been as close as any club. In the

nineties ROC started well with powerful teams collecting them their first couple of premierships and in 1996 blew Tooradin out of the finals with a 16 goal victory. In 1997 the Seagulls flocked and defeated ROC in a two horse race to win the premiership as these two powerful teams exchanged epic games through the latter part of the century. 1999 Tooradin held the fast ROC team goalless in the preliminary final to advance into the grand final against Beaconsfield where they were overrun by a classy Beaconsfield outfit after leading by 15 at half time.In 2000 Tooradin played in three tied matches in a row the third being against ROC. There have been many close encounters between these two teams while they were both in the West Gippsland Football League and with both Tooradin-Dalmore and ROC taking the step up to the stronger Casey Cardinia FNL, which is now SEFNL, the classic close encounters continue. To add to this legend last season was a classic between the two clubs as both games were decided by a kick after the siren. In the first game at ROC our Captain Mick Hobbs found himself 55 metres out with a wet ball and dimming light but his kick has just stopped in the goal square to give ROC a two point victory. In the second game at Tooradin the Seagulls down by five and Hobbs was once again in the action with 30 seconds left in the game the umps didn’t pay what all Seagull supporters thought was a clear free kick, ROC cleared the ball by foot only to see it rebound straight back into the 50 metre zone where a determined Mick Hobbs was waiting to mark without anything the ump could do about it. And from 40 out (although he seems to think it was 70 out) Hobbs kicked true to give the Gulls a wonderful victory. Today is as important as any for both clubs, as they are hungry for their first win of 2015. The contest will be strong and tough throughout, and we will all watch with interest because we know both teams will play to the end. Good luck and go Gulls.

Loretta and Shona’s 250th

New TDFC scarves available from canteen $20 each. Get one before we run out.

Today we celebrate and honour the

250th game of two club legends, Loretta Iverach & Shona Wells. Whilst both players have now passed their 250th, it is important that we still acknowledge this very significant milestone in their stellar playing careers.Loretta started at Tooradin as a senior in 1997 and

Shona started as a “midget” junior as it was called then, way back in 1990! Both girls have been extraordinary contributors to the club through their tireless work on the committee, which they are still doing today. Loretta held the position of President since 2005 all the way through until last year, and Shona was Treasurer for many years and is now Vice President. Shona has also coached extensively with four junior premiership titles to her name as well as coaching our senior A & C grade sides. She is the current co-coach with Julia Hobbs of our C grade team. Loretta and Shona are true leaders both on and off the court, both having been long term Captains of B and A grade respectively. Loretta is an extremely accurate and consistent goaler who has been relied on for many years as the “go-to” goaler in B grade. Shona is a smart, quick mid-courter who has an excellent ability to read the play and feed the goalers well. Both players always lead by example, and are a huge asset to their team, especially the younger players which they are always willing to help, support, develop and encourage.Their commitment, dedication and passion for our great club are second to none. They are highly valued, talented and respected players and club members and were both in recent years rewarded for their efforts with Life Membership. Some of Loretta’s playing achievements include:1998 & 1999 - C grade premiership team 2008 – B grade premiership Captain2010 – B grade Most Valuable Player2011 – B grade Best & Fairest and Runner Up League Best & Fairest2012 – B grade Runner Up Best & Fairest2014 – B grade Runner Up Best & Fairest Some of Shona’s playing achievements include:1993 – U15 Runner Up Best & Fairest1996 – U17 undefeated Premiership team1997 – U17 Runner Up Best & Fairest1998 – B grade Premiership team1999 – C grade Premiership team2000 – B grade Runner Up Best & Fairest2003 – B grade Best & Fairest2005 – A grade Best & Fairest2006 – A grade Premiership team & Runner Up Best & FairestOn behalf of everyone at the netball club, a very big congratulations to Loretta & Shona on their 250th games and we look forward to many more!!

President’s ReportWelcome Seagull supporters to our first home game of

the season. For the first time in our club’s history we are taking part in the AFL Vic Country match of the month, which is great honour and opportunity for both us and ROC to promote our football and netball clubs.

This opportunity came from discussions with Jeremy Bourke who is the Regional General Manager of AFL South East. As two of the clubs in the newly formed South East Football Netball League that still have a true country footy feel it made sense to choose Tooradin Dalmore and ROC for the game, we also have a long and respectful rivalry between our two clubs and the two games last year were absolute ripping games of footy so we hope today can also be a great spectacle and that the Gulls get their first win of 2015. I would like to thank Jeremy Bourke for his work in getting the game scheduled between both clubs, and for securing the match of the month for us. The whole day is supported by Worksafe Victoria and the TDFNC would like to thank them for their support. I would also like to thank Dana Reddick and Kate Nugent from AFL Victoria for all the work they did in coordinating today’s game and luncheon. Also a special welcome to TDFNC for all the distinguished guests attending today, thanks for your support and we hope you enjoy the day.

As this is the first time I have had the opportunity to inform our supporters of how we are progressing as a club I will give you all a quick summary of preseason and 2015 to date.

Firstly as a club and as a League we voted to leave the MPNFL after last season to enable ourselves to focus 100% on the growth of football and netball in our region and I am pleased to inform you that our new league, the South East Football Netball League has just appointed a full and experienced board to lead us into the future. The league has also appointed a new Operations Manager in Liz Triffett and she is also doing a great job, the future of our sport in this region is in good hands and as a club we are excited about the future it holds for us.

We have appointed our coaches for the season and they have been working well over the preseason and although we are yet to win a game we have shown, particularly against Doveton, that we can play exciting fast football that will win us games against any opposition, the challenge for the coaches and the players is to get this football played over 4 quarters.

Our recruitment team have also been busy and have bought more youth along with extra experience into our senior side and what is particularly pleasing is the extra pace we have found through these recruits, we have been recognised as a slow but tough side in the past and now we are seeing the side play a faster but still physical style of game, I think you will like what you see.

I couldn’t let this opportunity pass without letting you know about our major raffle for the season, which is a brand new Ford XR6 ute courtesy of Freeway Ford in Cranbourne. Tickets are $100 each and can be purchased through any committee member; this will be a great fund raiser for the club and a fantastic prize for the lucky winner.

I hope everyone enjoys a great day today, and a special welcome to our youth girls’ team who played earlier this morning and also to our Auskickers and Netta kids.

— Fly high you mighty Seagulls.Derek Genoni, President

Our first home game for the season finally! After what has been a hard start to the season with byes, injuries

and some big losses, we look forward to putting some wins on the board against ROC today.

Despite not coming away with many wins so far our junior teams have been showing huge improvement since they started in pre season and we look forward to their further development in the coming weeks. Award winners for last week against Narre Warren: 13&UW Ella Murray and Mikayla Flower, 13&UR Maddison Diwell and Layla Williams, 15&UW Abbie Potter and Elizabeth Thornton, 15&UR Tia Byrne and Rachel Sculley, 17&UW Laura Sculley and Courtney Wade, 17&UR Brooke Weatherhead and Mary McGindle. The senior ranks saw some very tough games in all grades.

Narre Warren walked away victors in all games despite Tooradin showing some great netball in patches. Special mention to D grade, who after trailing all game came out in the last quarter and despite not getting over the line showed they could play some really good netball against tough opposition. Now to keep that momentum going into this week’s game! Another special mention to our junior players who stepped up to play in the senior grades last week. You all did a fantastic job in tough matches! Award winners: D Jess Wilkie and Melinda Smith, C Bridget Cook and Mary McGindle, B Loretta Iverach and Leanne Ansalde, A Stacey Sawyer and Shona Wells.

Today is a huge day down at the Seagulls Nest, not only looking for some wins, but having our clubs take part in the VWA game of the month. A grade teams will be joining the senior football prior to their game for the National Anthem and participating in presentations after the game. Further to this we have our Net Set Go players participating in an exhibition match during A grade to celebrate the completion of their program for 2015. These young players are the future of our

club and are already showing some exceptional skills in the short time they have been playing. I encourage everyone to get across and have a look at these little superstars in action ... who knows they may take your position on the court some day! Lastly we are also celebrating two milestone games today. Both Shona Wells and Loretta Iverach will be stepping onto the court for their 250th game celebrations, followed by an afternoon tea. Well done to both of these ladies who have been stellar contributors to our club both on and off the court!

— Good luck to all teams today.Go Seagulls!
