CaroMont Regional Achieves Primary Stroke Center Re-Certification

After a rigorous on-site survey in December, we were recently notified that CaroMont Regional Medical Center was awarded the Certificate of Distinction for Advanced Certification as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission.

Valid through December 2018, this certification recognizes centers that are leaders in stroke care, and shows that we work to provide a higher standard of service for stroke patients in our community.

Melondie Edwards, Stroke Coordinator; Tristy Morrow, Manager of Clinical Performance Improvement; Dr. Sunil Mehta, Stroke Medical Director; Ashley Long, Senior Director of Patient

Care Services; Michelle Remillard, Director of ED and Trauma; members of the Stroke Steering Committee and staff from the Emergency Department, HMI-Neuro, Critical Care and other hospital departments worked to prepare for this survey.

Thank you to all staff involved in the Stroke Program. Your teamwork made this achievement possible!

Good Catch: Gena Berryman and Kimberly Wright

Gena Berryman, Medical Assistant at CaroMont Gastroenterology & Hepatology, noticed that an important test had not been ordered for a patient. After identifying the issue, Gena immediately had the test ordered so it could be used in the patient’s diagnosis. Great job, Gena!

Kimberly Wright, Licensed Nurse Practitioner at Courtland Terrace, identified a medication order error that could have resulted in the patient receiving dangerous amounts of Coumadin. Her attention to detail allowed her to catch and correct the error before it caused harm to the patient. Great job, Kimberly!

The Good Catch Award recognizes employees for their contributions to the Patient Safety Program. For more information about the Good Catch Award or to nominate someone who has made a Good Catch, please visit the Patient Safety page on CHIP.
