SPANISH IV COURSE EXPECTATIONS 2016/2017

GOALSTo improve speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through the expansion of vocabulary, grammar, and practice; and to continue to learn about Spanish/Hispanic customs and traditions.

TOPICSSome topics include social customs and geography of Spain and Latin America, Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, and Hispanics in the U.S.

CODE OF CONDUCT (“THE 3 P’S”) PLEASE BE:*polite - listen when others are speaking (no chatting!), use appropriate language (no put-downs or hurtful words), raise your hand to speak, ask for permission to get up, show respect for school and personal property (no writing on desks, taking other students' things); cell phones may not be used or be visible on desks during class.

*prepared - come to class with your packet, binder/folder, pens/pencils, completed homework. Homework and classwork will sometimes be counted as part of a quiz grade.

*prompt - be in your seat ready to work when the bell rings.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITYPlagiarism is cheating; it means using someone else's words or ideas and presenting them as your own. This prohibits copying from the internet, using online translators, copying homework or test answers, or having someone else write your work for you. (However, you may use online dictionaries to look up the meaning of a word or how to say a word in Spanish, not a full phrase.) Using cheat sheets or electronic equipment during a test or quiz is cheating as well. YOU WILL RECEIVE A GRADE OF 0% FOR PLAGIARISM OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF CHEATING. Please see your student handbook for details.

ATTENDANCE/ABSENCE POLICYYou are responsible for making up homework, class work, quizzes, tests etc. assigned during your absence. NO WORK OR TESTS MAY BE MADE UP IF THE ABSENCE IS A CUT. YOU WILL RECEIVE A GRADE OF ZERO ON THESE ASSIGNMENTS. Check student handbook or website for MINIMUM ATTENDANCE PROCEDURE.

HOMEWORK POLICYDAILY HOMEWORK IS POSTED ON MY WEBSITE and IS DUE IN CLASS BEFORE IT IS REVIEWED unless you are legally absent. You are responsible to: a) check my website for the homework if you forget to write it down or if you are absent; b) show me your homework if you were absent the day I checked it, in order to receive credit. If you are assigned a composition, project, etc., it will count as a quiz or a test and you will lose 10 points per day if it is turned in late.

ITEMS NEEDED FOR CLASS A loose-leaf binder or 2-pocket folder for keeping notes and papers for the current

marking period. Please DO NOT bring a spiral notebook! You will receive many packets during the year and hand-outs which you will need to put into your binder or folder.

Looseleaf paper 3 additional folders (one for the end of each marking periods 1 – 3) to keep notes and

papers (to be kept at home) Pens and/or pencils – bring several ¡Una s☺nrisa y una buena actitud!

GRADINGFor 1 st , 3 rd and 4 th quarters :80% - for quizzes, tests, projects, compositions, etc.10% - for homework done completely and carefully10% - for participation, no chatting, NO CELL PHONES

For 2 nd quarter :

Midterm counts as 20% of the 2nd quarter grade; other categories count 80% instead of 100%.

For year average:
