What will you do if you or a loved one needs immediate medical care? Most of us answer, “Go to the nearest emergency room.” However ER wait times and out-of-pocket expenses are at an all-time high. Unless it is a true emergency, you will likely get quicker, quality medical care somewhere else. That is why it is important to know the difference between an Urgent Care and an Emergency Room visit in order for you to maximize your current health care benefit.

Call 911 immediately if someone is unconscious, having trouble breathing, has suffered a serious injury or may be having a heart attack.

URGENT CAREMinor injuries and illnesses

In general:If the illness is something you would normally see your

family doctor for –but you cannot get an appointment right away or it is after hours, urgent care is the right choice.

Bring your insurance card & a photo ID.

In general:If the illness or injury seems more critical than something

you would see your family doctor for or if you feel the emergency is life threatening, go to the nearest emergency

room.

Sprains, strains, or possible broken bones Complex fractures or bones protruding through the skin

Head injuries or a sudden, very severe headache or loss of vision (could be the sign of a stroke)

Sore throats, coughs, ear infections, fever, flu symptoms Chest pain or other heart attack symptoms– call 911

The program – a first-of-its-kind on Guam – is designed for personalized support with understanding your TakeCare covered benefits. Patient Advocates have an expertise for benefit and billing inquiries and are the bridge between you and TakeCare’s Medical Management Team. Together, we provide exceptional service while ensuring national standardized levels of care.

You will be able to speak with your Patient Advocate to ask questions and feel confident we are documenting and facilitating your GMH inquiries every step of the way. Our Patient Advocates are available to answer your questions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through our on-call service.

This program* is designed to provide educational

support to pregnant women and their families

and assist them to have a normal and healthy

pregnancy. The program consists of one-on-one

telephonic consultation with trained and skilled

health care professionals who can provide guidance

and support to pregnant women. Trained case

managers are readily available to provide:

• Phone-based pregnancy screening and education by an RN specialty case manager• Verbal and written educational information• Referrals to specialty care services when risk factors are identified.

Eligible participants have access to Lamaze classes available through TakeCare’s contracted certified Lamaze instructors. This consists of a well developed series of classes focusing on positioning for labor, breathing and relaxation techniques, as well as other relevant information for expectant mothers and their partners in preparation for labor and childbirth. Class fees are reimbursed when you participate in this program.

Well MommyWell Baby Program

•A comprehensive risk assessment performed early in the pregnancy. If risk is identified, the nurse will discuss case management services with the member.

•Teaching is provided related to the member's specific diagnoses, warning signs of pregnancy and healthy lifestyles.

Eligible participants can avail of the following services from highly trained perinatal nurse case managers:
