Taj Mahal History - An Insight

It is one of the best examples of Persian as well as Mughal architecture in India. Construction of Taj Mahal started in 1631 and it almost took 22 years for its completion. It took around 1,000 elephants and 20,000 men to complete it. In the year 1653 and after spending 32 million Rupee that India got its most beautiful monument. Going by the history of Taj Mahal, it does shows that it was not constructed by an individual. This entire project demanded diverse abilities, creativity, talents, skills and artistry. Approximately 20,000 labor and master craftsmen from different parts of the world – Turkey, Iran, Persia, Italy and France worked on its construction and designing and their names were kept for record for future generations on parchments. Isa Muhammad Effendi and Ustad Isa were both the Persian architects trained by Koca Mimar Sinan Agha, a famous architect from Ottoman are credited for designing as well as constructing the Taj Mahal.

Shah Jahan was ousted by his own son Aurangzeb after the completion of Taj Mahal and he was kept under house arrest somewhere near Agra Fort. Even Shah Jahan was buried in Taj Mahal with his wife.
