An Illustrative theme based advertising campaign for Polaroid cameras at SID, Semester 6, 2010

Print advertisement, 12 inches by 8 inchesPostcard (Front), 6 inches by 4 inches

Polaroid cameras are popular for the instant production of their photos because of the instant film they run on.Thus, to mark the return of a new more modern range of polaroid cameras in 2010 I illustrated two concepts - A trip to the Circus and a trip to Paris.Based on the Polaroid principle of viewing your experience instantly, the campaign consisted of print ads for magazines and newspapers as well as free to pick up postcards.

The United Charities Bazaar is an annual Christmas bazaar that raises money for charitable purposes.I was approached bythe chairman Stephen Dass to create an event poster and redesign the logo.The event was on a low budget hence the promotional work also followed the same principle.

I illustrated a variety of four greeting cards under the various subjects - Miss you, Happy birthday, Get well soon andHappy anniversary.The style I used was vintage inspired and widely texture based.

My internship at Deccan Chronicle included creating illustrations for related articles as well as designing permanenticonography that would be used in the papers daily columns.

The iconography I designed for Deccan Chronicle were used in a variety of daily columns and supplements.Most of these alsoappeared in the anniversary issue.

My internship at Deccan Chronicle was an incredible and rare experience in the field of publication design.I also learnt howto work under critical deadlines which are extremely important at a newspaper.

“Somewhere far far away”, a childrens story book atSID, Semester 7, 2011

“Somewhere far far way” is a childrens story book about a littl girl Maya who hears a story about a little boy from another planet.A planet filled with spirit, sacrifice and some evil sea monsters! This project was a great chance for me to further my knowledge of publication design and explore alternatives in terms oflayout,printing and layering a book.You can view the entire book here.

“Circus people,” an illustrative theme based type atSID, Semester 7, 2011

This project was a great oppurtunity for me to merge illustration with type design.I designed the uppercase Englishalphabet as well as numbers.In both sets, circus characters and circus elements form the letter or number.




The main challenges I faced in the project was the task of balancing illustration with the technicalities of type design.




Inorder to provide the user with more variation I also designed a three colour version of the type in which I used a specificthree colour palette for each character.In this version I also colour coded characters in terms of their part in the circus.Forexample, all the acrobats wore light blue and had purple painted faces.




I also saw this three colour version as a possible equivalent for Bold and regular variations in a type.It also aided in avoidingrepetition and as I mentioned before, adding variation, especially when a letter or number is repeated.For example 11 orlittle.

My experience so far..I have grown up with and loved art and design all my life.My mother is afreelance oil painter herself, along with my brother who in addition to hisregular job works as a freelance photographer. I see graphic design as a wonderful oppurtunity to mix art and technology.Over the past four years, I have takenadvantage of being a student and had the time and freedom to explorethe various industries available to graphic designers through my internships.In doing so I have hoped to gain experience in advertising, branding and print media.

Ogilvy and Mather,Bangalore ( May 2010 - June 2010)- Position : Copy and art intern- I had the oppurtunity to write copy for ITC Bingo in relation to radio jingles and ad content.- I helped design the new packaging for Bingo Mad Angles and formulated the layout and design for many ITC event brochures.

Extentia Technologies, Pune (August 2010 - September 2010)- Position : Design Intern- At extentia I had the oppurtunity to take part in the branding of a Uk based company Janus Technlogies.I helped in redesigning their logo, identity and website.

Deccan Chronicle, Bangalore (May 2011 - June 2011)- Position : Illustrator- I had the oppurtunity of creating illustrations for respective articles and designing iconographer for the papers daily columns and newly launched supplements.

Other freelance work- Poster design for United Charities Bazaar, a christmas bazaar in Bangalore in 2010- Identity design for Green Bell, a new school in Bangalore in 2010.
