THE MESSAGE FROM THE OC Dear IFMSA friends,

It is with great pleasure that the Organizing Committee invites you to participate in the Training 4 All (T4All), between the 8th and 12th of September 2014, in Guimarães, Portugal.

This T4All is an unique opportunity, since it's the only one of its kind that gathers together all the IFMSA’s Standing Committees plus the Trainings Support Division. We intend to train local officers and national officers on general training skills, human rights and peace, exchanges program, medical education and peer educ ation on both public and reproductive health.

Additionally, and aware of the new era of health challenges that comes along with the post-2015, we’ll provide you two joint sessions on global health, encouraging the trainees to take advantage of their recently-acquired skills to engage at a local and national levels on health advocacy.

Portugal is a country well known for its people and the warm welcoming that characterizes us. Because of that, we choose Guimarães to be our hosting city. It was the first city of Portugal, where our country was born, and it’s a city full of history and personality. Moreover, in 2012, it was the European Capital for Culture, which boosted the city’s capacity to receive such events. As we want you to know it, our social program will provide you a guided touristic tour, so you’ll be able to know everything about our history, while you appreciate the beautiful sightseeing.

We gave you plenty of reasons to come to Portugal; invite your friends, choose your formative tracks and discover all the potential that Training 4 All has.

We did it all, because of you.

Warm regards,

Alberto Abreu da Silva

President of the Organizing Committee

TRAINING TRACKS

Each formative track will have its own environment, venue and trainings sessions. Nevertheless, the General Trainings (day 4) that you can see in the agenda will be soft-skills trainings delivered by the TNT trainees, supervised by the TOT trainees. This way, we can provide all the T4All participants a general soft-skills international training at the same time we certify the new trainers.

TRAINING NEW TRAINERS (TNT)

The TNT is one of the most emblematic trainings of IFMSA. This particular training will provide the trainees important soft-skills, required for everyday life, either as medical students or associative members. General trainings, such as communication skills, facilitation skills and leadership, will dig deep in the trainees’ minds and souls, bringing up their most full and bright potential. Plus, the trainees will get the chance to put to practice everything they have learnt, during the general Trainings (day 4), supervised by the TOT trainees. It is recommended that you have already some IFMSA trainings.

TRAINING OLD TRAINERS (TOT)

Without TNTs, there would be know trainings. Have you ever thought about running a TNT of your own or with your best friend? Do you think that the Trainings Support Division of your Local Committee would benefit from trainings? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the right training track for you. The TOT training will provide you all the essential skills required to organize a TNT. Additionally, if you want to develop your training skills one step further, you should definitely apply for the TOT. Nevertheless, keep in mind that you should already have some experience on delivering trainings.

INTERNATIONAL PEER EDUCATION TRAINING – PUBLIC AND

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH (IPET)

Yeahhh… Get ready for the funniest training ever! This iPET will provide you with peer education skills on both Public and Reproductive Health, which will definitely be very important for your campaigns and projects aiming to raise awareness and to address youth people on these topics. If you are interested in any of these issues and you want to advocate for a world with better health, this is the right training for you!

TRAINING ON EXCHANGES (TOE)

Bite my TOE! This is a new name for the old-school Sub-Regional Training focused on exchanges. Either you are a LORE, LEO, NORE, NEO, Contact Person or whatsoever, this is the training! It will provide you with skills concerning the IFMSA’s Exchanges Programs, plus social programs management, exchanges promotion as well as some discussion on how to improve the current programs mechanisms. If you’re into exchanges, you shouldn’t definitely skip this!

SCORP CAMP

The SCORP Camp is the most adequate training track for the ones who are majorly concerned with human rights and peace issues. It will address the relation between health and human rights and how can we, as medical students, act at this level. It will promote experiences-sharing, as well as it will develop the trainees capacities to act and react to situations at both local and national levels.

SCOME CAMP

The SCOME Camp is the training track dedicated to medical education. This specific track will take advantage of all the researches occurring in Portugal concerning medical Education topics, giving the trainees specific skills. For instance, medical students assessment and core medical student curriculum will be some of the key issues addressed in this training. Along with this, there will be time to debate and discuss the situations in each participants’ country so the training can be also outcome-oriented.

GLOBAL HEALTH SESSIONS

Aware of the urge to put health discussion on governments agenda, and having in mind the turning moment we are facing with the post-2015, the Global Health Sessions that you can find in the agenda will tackle two different issues, related with the New Era and the Post-2015, and aim to empower and inspire the participants to engage at their local and national levels on this discussion:

• Unravelling the Post-2015: what is it, where did it come from and what to expect?

• Engaging local activism: How can youth activists like medical students engage on their countries on global health issues?

The City of Guimarães

Known as the cradle of the Portuguese nationality, Guimarães is a mark in the history of Portugal. In the eleventh century, several battles and political decisions were made in this city, leading to the independence of the County of Portugal and therefore originating our country. This is the reason why “Aqui nasceu Portugal” (Here Portugal was born) is written in a wall in the city and everyone says that Guimarães was the first city of Portugal. After this period, the city was always one of the major cities of our country, and a lot of historical events happened, which gives to Guimarães a strong historical heritage and importance.

Firstly, the city is know by its Historical Centre, which comprises, among other places, the Guimarães Castle, the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza (wonder where came from the British 5 o’clock tea tradition…), the statue of D. Afonso Henriques (first king of Portugal), Oliveira Square, Santiago Square, Oliveira Church, Toural Square, …

  8

Additionally, the city is located at the bottom of Penha Mountain, a more or less 600 hundred meters height mountain that offers a splendid landscape and view of the city. You can get there by a 15 minutes cable-car travel, an experience that you should not miss during your stay here. Who knows if you’ll have sessions there?

During the night, the city historical centre changes its appearance and it literally shines! A lot of good restaurants, bars and youthful vibe fill the Oliveira & Santiago Squares, where you can relax and hangout with your friends while having a good drink or icecream.

Because all of this, Guimarães was considered in 2001 UNESCO World Heritage Site and in 2012 was chosen, jointly with Maribor (Slovenia), as the European Capital of Culture.

Please, visit the Tourism of Guimarães website for more information (http://www.guimaraesturismo.com).

Moreover you can find in the agenda social program every nights, during which you will be offered a touristic tour in Guimarães, so you can discover the city by night; a typical Portuguese culture night; a bars night; and, at last but not the least, a National Food and Drinks Party, for which we expect you to bring the best of your country!
