Practices to Promote Research Culture: AtSCIT,two monthly activities are conductedfor sharing the knowledge and experienceon research in the areas related toInformation Technology BusinessManagement and higher education. Shortnotes on these internal activities are givenbelow:

The Quest

Goal: To provide a platform to enhancethe skills of the members of academiccommunity (members of Faculty andstudents) of SCIT for research, discussion, scrutiny and expression. Toequip ourselves with critical thinkingcapabilities that facilitates ourinteractions with outside researchcommunity.

Page 9: SYMBIOSIS INFOTECH CAMPUS - SCIT · Technology in the Asia's Best BSchool ... Sadhana Ghalsasi visited Germany on ... delivery of and listening toresearch seminars

The Context: At SCIT,we believe thatthe effective learning culture relevantto higher education demands for high-end research activities and relatedcommunication. In turn, good qualityresearch is possible only when there isan environment conducive to collectiveacademic scrutiny and constructivescholarly criticism. The success of thisactivity is indicative of the convictionof SCIT's academic community incritical evaluation by peers and ininvisible incentive for sparing sometime for preparation, delivery of andlistening to research seminars.

The Practice:

Stakeholders: Members of Faculty ofSCIT and occasionally, studentcommunity, whenever suitable topic istaken up.

Description: The Quest is once a monthmeeting of Stakeholders for listeningto the Research Seminars delivered bythe members of SCIT Faculty, studentor an invited guest. The topics can berelated to the Doctoral research, or,any research work they are involvedwith; or, any new paper they areworking on and wish to get scrutinizedby their colleagues; or, a good qualitypublished research paper (not

necessarily written by them) that mayhave some value to the Audience. TheQuest meetings are held every thirdThursday of the month from 1:15 p.m.to 2:00 p.m. Most of the times, it getsextended due to the questions andanswers following the seminar. It hasbeen kept a voluntary activity forpresenter as well as the audience.Sometimes, due to high demand,two/three meetings of the Quest areheld in a month.

The Prowess

Goal: Toequip the learning communityof the institute with the world classknowledge about the adult learning, teaching, assessment and highereducation.

The Context: The Prowess initiative ofSCIT aims to address the perpetualdilemma ofhigher education whether toteach adults or make adults learn.Everyone was convinced about thedifference between the pedagogiesadopted for undergraduate andgraduate level programmes and held atreasure of experiences of teachingGraduate programmes. The missinglink was the availability of the platformwhere these experiences can be shared. The Prowess provides that platform.

Stakeholders: Members of Faculty ofSCIT and occasionally, studentcommunity, whenever suitable topic istaken up.

Description: The Prowess is once amonth meeting of Stakeholders topresent/discuss the topics related tohigher education (e.g., ExperientialLearning, Formative and Summativeassessment, Bloom'sTaxonomy etc.). Itis a group based activity, wherein, involvement of Faculty membersoccurs through presentation of somework related to higher education, playing some relevant videos, raisingsome points specific to learning andeducation. The Prowess meetings areheld every second Thursday of themonth from 1:15 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Ithas been kept a voluntary activity.

Current Work

An aspect oriented approach to informationriskmanagement

Every application or business process mayhave some non functional requirements inaddition to the functional requirements.Aspect Oriented Modeling deals withweaving the non functional aspects to thebasic model and thus increasesmodularity. It complements the ModelDriven architecture and helps separationof concerns. The main application of thisapproach is to model cross-cutting issuesthat occur in various designs as a separatefragment and apply to existing and newlydesigned applications. Effective riskmanagement process is an inevitable part

of an organizations IT security strategy. Ithas an impact in the organization's abilityto perform their mission. IT securitystrategy can be separated from businessstrategy as IT security strategy is a crosscutting concern of any business.Henceforth aspect oriented approach isadopted as the method for risk management. The proposed model of risk managementseparates this cross cutting concern fromthe SDLC. The various security aspectsand impact levels will be identified andcategorized.

His research work has beenpublished in various InternationalConferences and referred Journals. Heworked in the area of Location DependentInformation services and has proposedvarious cache invalidation and replacementpolicies to improve the performance of it.In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs),algorithms were proposed that increasethe network lifetime and can support largenetworks. Under network traffic, amathematical model was proposed toestimate the size distribution of packets innetwork traffic. Currently, he is workingtowards integrated architecture that canprovide better precision of mobile usersand assist future location based services(LBS).

Current research work plan

The research work is concern withneuroscience. it is related to the functionalMagnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI).ThefMRI data can detect the correlationbetween brain activation and the task thesubject performance during the scan. ThefMRI scan the 3D volume of head in everysecond and producing five hundred to onethousand images. But these images are inFourier transform space, so there is need totransform back to images spaces. Afterreconstruction of 3D images, we can detectcommon correlations i.e. motioncorrelation and correlation in physiologicaleffects. If the task like though performedby subject is compared with BOLDresponse time and temporal pattern.

I am working in the as area of riskmanagement in distributed agile projects. The objective of the research is to identifythe risk factors which impact thedevelopment of projects which are beingdeveloped through agile softwaredevelopment methodology by distributed(global) teams. Along with the risk factors, the risk management strategies which canbe used to reduce their impact wiil also beidentified. A framework will be created byanalyzing and consolidating knowledgefrom the contemporary literature and datafrom the project work documents, theexploratory interviews and a comprehensive

survey of distributed agile project and teammembers. The research will be relevant forthe academic discipline of projectmanagement and practicing projectmanagers whoare handling distributed agile.
