Dear Parents/Guardians, We are delighted to inform you that Sutherland North Public School will be participating in the world-renowned ICAS Assessments again this year. ICAS is developed by UNSW Global, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of New South Wales, with over 35 years’ experience in educational assessments. ICAS is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English and Mathematics. Each assessment celebrates students’ accomplishments by providing opportunities for recognition. Every student will receive a certificate and an online result report. Top performers will be eligible for medals and are invited to attend special award ceremonies to have their academic excellence publicly recognised. We encourage you to consider entering your child into ICAS this year. The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the personal challenge of competing in an international assessment. Your child will be presented with high-quality, expert-developed questions, allowing them to apply their learning without the need for prior study or revision. ICAS Assessments are now online, a move that reflects a sector-wide transition to computer-based assessment. This allows greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results. Learn more about ICAS here: unsw.global/ICAS

Your child will be sitting ICAS Assessments for English and Mathematics ICAS and the $14.50 (excluding GST) fee for each assessment can now be paid online. Visit unsw.global/parentpay and enter your school’s unique code to make a direct payment to UNSW Global. Online payment will close on Wednesday 14 August 2019.

Access code: df2190d7e0

Partnering with UNSW Global, we are proud to offer our students the ICAS English and Mathematics Assessments, and look forward to some fantastic results later in the year. Kind regards, Anne Minogue Fiona Young Assistant Principal Principal *Privacy notification: UNSW Global stores, uses and modifies the ICAS Assessments data in order to generate reports, conduct research and analysis, and improve its products and services. Gifted and Talented program

Our Year 7 Gifted & Talented classes provide students with an opportunity to develop their talents in a specialised program with children who have similar interests and abilities, while being guided by teachers who are committed to excellence in teaching and learning.

These classes will be taught by suitably qualified and committed teachers, who are undertaking professional learning in Gifted Education. These teachers have a passion for challenging gifted & talented students and understand the importance of differentiating the curriculum to meet their specific learning needs.

In 2020, selected students with a talent in dance will be offered a scholarship, which will include a place in a gifted & talented class. Dance students in the G&T class will participate in approximately 4 hours of specialist extension workshops and ensembles, while working with talented dancers from other Year groups as part of their regular timetabled lessons.

Dance auditions & scholarships

Audition and scholarship applications are available from The Jannali High School office or on our website and are due by Monday, 19th August, 2019.

Dance auditions will commence from Monday, 26th August, 2019 at The Jannali High School. Individual audition times will be provided, via email to each family, once all applications are processed.

What do we offer our Creative and Performing Arts students? Educational scholarships worth up to $200 for each successful dance

audition in 2019.

Specialist tutoring in Dance.

Specialised learning facilities and the essential equipment necessary to be successful.

The opportunity to participate in ensembles, competitions and perform within the local and wider community with other talented students as part of their regular curriculum.
