Well, I reckon the students were up with the chickens gettin’ everything ready for Custodian Appreciation Day using the Farm Daze theme.  Boy howdy, they did a better job showin’ appreciation to these hardworking employees than a pig lovin’ her daily mud bath in the noon day sun.

Below are summaries of their great days written by the coordinators themselves.  Ya’ll sit back and enjoy the read.  You’re sure gonna be impressed!

Anderson County Celebrations

Anderson County Career & Technical Center - We had our Custodian Appreciation Day on Wednesday October 23rd due to so much going on here at ACCTC today.  The staff pulled together and had a home-style lunch for the custodians. Also, the A-Team made posters and cards  and presented

those to them. Nick, one of our A-Team members, made personalized mugs for the custodians.  Our custodian team loved it! One of our A-Team members said, "it made me feel so good to see the happy response of our custodians".

Anderson County High School - We had so much fun honoring our custodians. We fed them lunch which consisted of hamburgers, chips, dessert & drinks. In addition, we made them gift bags filled with a personalized coffee mug, candy, thank you cards done by our student body and a t-shirt we had made especially for them. We also made an announcement over the intercom, put a message on our sign outside and made a banner.Great quote:  Our custodians were so excited that we took time out to honor them. One custodian told a teacher that she felt special.  She said she never knew that we notice the hard work they put in.  This is an awesome program!!!!

Lake City Elementary - For Custodian Appreciation Day at Lake City Elementary School, we had a big vinyl sign made that says “LCES Loves (heart) our Custodians.  We hung this sign out in front of the cafeteria.

Also, we had students make appreciation posters for each custodian that were hung in the hallway.  All 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students wrote letters either to individual custodians or to all of the custodians expressing their appreciation for all that the custodians do for our school.  These letters were compiled in a binder and given to the custodians. Individual classes in the primary grades also made special cards, books, etc. for the custodians.  T-shirts were made for each custodian embroidered with LCES Loves (heart) name of custodian.

The custodians were treated to a special lunch at Cracker Barrel

provided by the school.  The custodians were given a two hour lunch break to go to Cracker Barrel to enjoy a nice lunch.  Meanwhile, the teachers and staff worked together to do their jobs in the cafeteria during student lunch.  Teachers and staff emptied trays, swept floors, cleaned tables, took out trash, etc. just as the

custodians would do.  Teachers and students seemed to really enjoy

this and found a new appreciation for all that our custodians do for our school.

A special assembly program was also written

and performed by a 5th grade class, their teacher,

and our music teacher.  This was presented to the entire

school.  The custodians were given a standing ovation before and after the program and they enjoyed the program from the stage.  The shirts were given to the custodians during this program.  The video is also posted on our school website. Students said thank you to the custodians as they saw them in the hallway.

Custodian Appreciation Day CelebrationsClinton High School - For Custodian Appreciation Day, we recognized the 9 members of our custodial staff.  Students were given the opportunity to write thank you notes to the custodians.  We got a great response!  We created goodie bags, and the students delivered those, along with the thank you notes.  We also made a sign that we posted in the main entry lobby of our school, so everyone could see.  The custodians seemed to appreciate the goodies, and seemed touched to see all of the notes the students wrote.

Jackson County Celebrations

Dodson Branch Elementary - We celebrated appreciation day for our custodians, maintenance, and technology personal.  Invites were sent out saying ''lettuce  show our appreciation join us for lunch''. A few students helped with the gift bags

making and stuffing them with goodies. Also, some students helped make posters and hang them. Everyone was here for a wonderful pizza lunch. It is nice to see everyone laughing and  enjoying each other's company.

Gainesboro Elementary - On Custodian Appreciation Day, we served our custodians with Tru-Moo milk, tractor-tire donuts, haystacks, pig cupcakes with mud pudding, and animal

crackers.  We told them they were "tire"-riffic!

Jackson County High School - Jackson County High School's A-Team presented Custodians, Maintenance Personnel , and Computer Technicians "Scarecrow Treat Bags" in honor of their Appreciation Day.  Treat Bags contained Corn Chips (Because they help us all grow), String Cheese (For a Little Farm Day Pick-Me-Up), Life Savers (For the part of their lives spent doing things for us), and Extra Gum (For all the extra time that they put into JCHS) relating to the Farm Daze Theme.

School Coordinator,

Jennifer Brown, Dodson Branch Elementary said, “The smiles on all these wonderful folks face is

priceless!”

Briarwood - Briarwood students had a great time with Custodian Appreciation Day.  Posters, door decor, bulletin boards and signs were created in their honor.  Self "egg" models were made.  Reporters traveled the halls because they said "We "mustache" you a question.  What can we do to make your job easier?"  Several classes gathered treats.  Some others made clay barn yards.  Announcements were made to keep students informed.  Custodian Mr. Larry said, "Together we can all keep the school clean".  Mrs. Mary said when asked what we can do to make your job easier - "I wish ya'll would laugh and smile everyday!"

Career & Technical Center - We made a bulletin board honoring our custodian, Patty Howe.  We had small gifts for her.  Our board used the farm theme.  We think she really appreciated everything.

Camden Elementary - Our Custodian Appreciation Day was a great success! Our most memorable event took place the entire week.  Our custodians "graciously" agreed to be a part of a secret.  The children brought money to place in a pumpkin container with each of our 4 contenders and vote for the Custodian they would like to see "Kiss a Pig!"  At the end of the week, we had raised over $400.  All the students and staff, along with some community leaders gathered for the assembly.  Instead of a pig, we had the winner (Jeremy) kiss an old goat!  The children loved it!  But the best part was presenting the collection money.  One of our custodians had been, and is still, going through some hard times.  The rest of the custodians agreed that the money raised would go to Mrs. Kay (without her knowledge!)  When it was given to her, tears were everywhere!  Custodian Appreciation Day could not have come at a better time!

Camden Jr. High School - For the month of October, Camden Jr. High School's A-Team honored their custodians for their dedication to our school. They worked with the theme of "Farm Dayz" and decorated a table in the front lobby of our school with fall decoration, covered with burlap, and we presented each custodian with a milk jug filled with goodies then tied with a bandana. Posters were also made to hang in honor of our custodians. Each night-time custodian was left a milk jug surprise as well.

Holladay School - Students made thank you cards for the custodians.  The A-team made posters and decorated bags filled with snacks to give to the custodians.

Hamblen County Celebrations

Hillcrest Elementary - We have had a fun filled day thanking our Custodians.  We started by having each child write a note of thanks.  The teachers posted the notes on their

doors so that throughout the day our wonderful custodians could walk by and read the heartfelt messages from our students.  We decorated the walls outside of the their office with a sign trimmed in cow print.  We presented each custodian with a small gift.  Our Principal took orders for lunch from Subway Restaurant.  We decorated the table with a checkered table cloth and burlap with scarecrows and a small pail filled with treats.  On the outside of the pail we wrote "Thank You" to each of our great custodians.  After we decorated the table, we had some students, dressed in farm attire serve lunch.  I think they felt very appreciated.

Union Heights Elementary - After watching the Thursday Tip video about scarecrow goodie bags, the A-Team students made one for each of the custodians with a thank you note.  They served them a delicious picnic lunch.  From the smiles on their faces, it is obvious the custodians had a great day.

Clinch School - Howdy! We had a corn pickin, bean breakin, hoe down kind of day! Our custodians were pleased beyond measure with the efforts put forth for their day... Regins Hagood and Donna Lawson arranged fall decorations in the front hall of the school. They needed scarecrows to use in their design. Dr. Royal's Tech class made models of scarecrows on stands for Regina and Donna to dress up. Posters were made and kids hung them in the hallways. Classes K-3 told farm animal jokes and sung a song to the tune of "The Farmer in the Dale". This was turned into a DVD for each of the custodians. Employees brought snacks to fill produce baskets to give as gifts. Ms. Mary Jane Dubuque wrote The Dairy Association to ask for things to give the kids in honor of "Farm Daze". The Dairy Association sent pencils, stickers, key chains and coloring books for the kids. Each teacher and their class clean out their "barn" for the custodians. A lunch of farm food was made for the custodians to enjoy. The kids and

adults dressed in farm clothes and we even had a few scarecrows. Wow, it sounds like we had a huge event, doesn't it...? Well, it sounds like it because WE DID!!!

Joseph Rogers Primary - To celebrate Custodian Appreciation Day at JRP we asked students to dress in farm attire to present treat bags. We had a student announcement thanking them, made a banner and thank you notes with artwork and bought them a barbeque lunch. I submitted a photo to the local paper which will be published if space allows.

Keplar Elementary - On Custodian Appreciation Day all the staff at Keplar brought food and we had lunch together.  The students made banners and signed and told Jesse how much they appreciated him for the great work he does.  The entire staff went together and bought him a good pair of comfortable tennis shoes so he can keep up the good work in comfort.

McPheeter’s Bend - For Custodian Appreciation Day, the A-Team made a farmyard banner and had all the children in the school to write thank you notes for Ms. Lisa and Ms. Patsy. We all dressed up in our farm clothes and had traditional country "fixins" for breakfast and lunch. The ladies also received a thank you gift consisting of a rake back scratcher, udder cream lotion, chicken poop lip balm and a cow tail.

Mooresburg Elementary - We celebrated Custodian Appreciation Day at Mooresburg Elementary by making cards, a bulletin board, and presenting Mr. Kenny and Ms. Donna with a treat bag. D & R market donated a gift certificate for a free biscuit for them.

Mt. Carmel Elementary - We celebrated Custodian Appreciation with the whole school dressed in their best farm duds.  Our students collected goodies for treat bags for our custodians, and had to go get larger paper grocery bags to contain all the wonderful items!  Each

homeroom class created a poster or display for the custodians.  Notes and letters were written to each of them expressing students thanks for all the work that they do at MCES.  Our morning announcements were made by our A-Team.  Our music teacher worked with a group of 4th graders to prepare a song of thanks that was sung to our custodians.  We prepared a farm fresh breakfast for the Custodians to enjoy.  Our school board representative came to enjoy breakfast with them as well.  Throughout the day students could be heard thanking each of our hard working custodians for the job they do.

Pathways - WE had a GREAT day on Custodian Appreciation Day. We honored George & Jeff for keeping our school clean. We also served them dinner. The students made posters and coloring sheets for decorations. We at Pathways Alternative School appreciate George & Jeff for keeping our school clean.

St. Clair Elementary - St. Clair Elementary really appreciates our custodians. They do an awesome job everyday! On Custodian Appreciation Day we celebrated them by making them cards, posters, and pictures and hanging them on their door as well as in the hallway. We gave them some gifts that included flowers, candy, cups, and gift cards. Staff members each brought in a covered dish, and Ms. Minnie and Ms. B enjoyed a delicious lunch. Some of our students sang a song to them as they ate their lunch. St. Clair loves Ms. Minnie and Ms. B!!

Surgoinsville Elementary - We've had a great day down on the farm!  Students all across the school wore their best farm hands outfits and we even had a few girls straight from the prairie!  Students decorated ears of corn and supplied notes of thanks to our wonderful custodians.  Our custodians were presented with a  pumpkin full of goodies-including a gift card to a fun restaurant.

Volunteer High School - We celebrated Custodian Appreciation Day by providing our custodians with a "farm fresh" lunch.  Our A-Team sang the appreciation song to the tune of "Old McDonald" and gave out thank you notes from the student body.  A pig stopped by to help celebrate and to made it feel a little more like a farm.

Bethpage Elementary - We made this poster honoring our custodians. Each flower has a picture of the custodian on it. Then the students signed a card for them. Also, each custodian received a bag of candy. They really appreciated it.

HB Williams - Our Custodian Day was amazing!  So many people chipped in to make our staff feel  special.  Our art classes to designed corn stalks so that our 3rd grade students could place 'ears of thanks' on them.  All 8 classes wrote encouraging notes and phrases, then placed them on the wall right outside our office, beside our head custodian’s door.  The chorus sang an appreciation song in front of the entire school.  Our head custodian, Ms. Cathy, was SO surprised and touched.  The entire school was dressed in farm attire and helped to sing along with our chorus.  All doors belonging to our custodial staff were also decorated with friendly notes.  The highlight of our day was preparing

and eating with our custodial staff.  A-Team and G-Force members brought in all of the items for a hearty Taco soup lunch; teachers made desserts.  The best part of all was all of these amazing things were kept a secret!  None of the staff knew we were going to honor them in these great ways.

Howard Elementary - The custodians were so happy to be honored by our kids.  The A-Team sang to them during lunch and presented them this morning with themed treat bags featuring scarecrows and the phrase "Our school would be SCARY without you!" We asked classrooms to write notes either to all the custodians or to individuals, and those were placed in a basket and distributed by A-Team members at the close of day.  The boys love doing the bulletin board, so they created one featuring the phrase "You Are the Cream of the Crop," with each custodians' name accompanied by a picture of different types of produce.  It was a great day.

Knox Doss at Drakes Creek-We celebrated our custodians on October 24 with the Farm Daze Theme and it was a lot of fun for both our students and the custodians being honored.  A-team members made scarecrow goody bags and decorations to display all around the school and invited the community and their fellow classmates to help with the celebrations.

Long Hollow Baptist Church, a local church,  provided a meal while several members of the community provided desserts, decorations and water bottles for each custodian.

A-team members served the custodians lunch and read a personal note of appreciation to them as they dined.  The students throughout the school wrote thank you notes telling them how much they are appreciated

and shouted a cheer of thanks during the presentation.

JW Wiseman - Custodian Appreciation Day was absolutely amazing at our school.  The kids went above and beyond to make sure they showed their gratitude to them.  Several even cleaned their own

classrooms.  A large group of A-Team members did lunch duty and their Fried Chicken picnic lunch was wonderful!  I was

very proud of the effort here at Wiseman.

Lakeside Park Elementary - Lakeside Park celebrated Custodian

Day by giving our custodians a scarecrow gift bag.  The

student body gave notes of praise and funny stories on leaves that we placed in the hall for everyone to see.  This was done by the G-Force.  The A-Team placed posters around the school to let everyone know about the date.  All 5th grade students sang to them right after lunch.  They had a great day, and so did we!!

Head Custodian, Robert

McMurray, (KDDC) said "When the kids take time to say thank you and serve

us the way they did today, it really touches

your heart".

Station Camp Elementary - The custodians were overwhelmed with joy and surprise!  The students within each hallway recognized their specific custodian, as well as others, by writing them personal letters of appreciation. Some of these letters were even read aloud, showing what a great job each student did!  They cleaned their classrooms and took out their own trash so that our custodians could enjoy their dinner without worrying about their usual daily responsibilities. Our Action team prepared a dance and learned the song “Old McDonald: Custodian Theme.” They then performed this for our custodians dressed as barnyard animals and farm hands.

While the students and staff worked extremely hard to prepare for this event, none of it would have been possible without help from our community. The members of our A-Team stayed after school, dressed in barnyard attire to serve our custodians their wonderful meals and treats.

The festivities began at 4:15 p.m., ensuring all custodians, night shift as well as day shifts, could take part in the planned activities. We started by bringing the custodians out to a standing ovation from teachers and students alike! They then sat in our barnyard and enjoyed their meals as our Action team praised them for their hard work and dedication. Meanwhile, our Paparazzi Team spent time taking pictures, videos, and interviewing custodians about the joys of their job. Following this, members of our creative team read letters from the feed buckets for each custodian and gave them a cow baggie full of goodies along with desserts made from our students!

After the event, the head custodian granted every custodian the night off. This proved to be a perfect ending, considering one of our night shift custodians was celebrating his birthday!

Overall the event was a huge success, and it is obvious our school and community truly jumped on board and loved celebrating such a wonderful day!

Union Elementary - We celebrated Custodian Day at Union Elementary. Our A-Team made up an awesome skit for our custodians. They decorated the stage with a farm theme. While the custodians sat on hay bales, they performed the skit and sang a song personalized with the custodians' names to the tune of Old MacDonald. They also presented them with some sweet treats, Subway gift cards, and "Help with a job" coupons that they can give to random students for help with jobs around the school. Our students and custodians are still talking about the special program. It definitely made our custodians' day and maybe their whole year!!!

North Sumner Elementary - We honored our custodians by putting up a message on the outside sign; students made thank you notes and cards; they dressed up like our custodians with cap and jeans day; a special lunch was provided for the custodians--steak and chicken dinners.  The students also created a bulletin board in their honor; and decorated their door with thank you notes written on pictures of "tools" they use.
