(This act of worship symbolizes the coming of Christ, who is God’s wisdom on earth. The Choir

sings one of the dismissal hymns of the Resurrection - The Priest comes forth from the

Sanctuary, bearing the Gospel. He is preceded by the Altar boys holding candlesticks. Facing the

Royal gate of the Iconostasion, he elevates the Gospel and chants:

Wisdom! Let us rise! Come, let us worship and bow unto Christ. Save us, O Son of God,

BRETHREN, grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.

to men." (in saying, "He ascended," what does it mean but that he had also descended into

the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is he who also ascended far above all the

heavens, that he might fill all things.) And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some

prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of

ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and

of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of

the fullness of Christ.

The Gospel According to Matthew 4:12-17

At that time, when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee; and

leaving Nazareth he went and dwelt in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun

and Naphtali, that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: "The land of

Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,

the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region

and shadow of death light has dawned." From that time Jesus began to preach, saying,

"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

THE BLESSING OF THE HOMES

Dear faithful, the prayers of the Epiphany Service indicate to the people that they

need to bless their homes with Holy Water as an expression of faith to God that

He grants us all a good and healthy New Year, filled with all of God’s blessings.

Everyone is encouraged to continue this very special and important tradition and

ask Fr. Nektarios to bless their home with Holy Water that has been blessed and

sanctified on January 5th. Soon, if not already, everyone will be notified by the

office on the dates and times that Fr. Nektarios will be in your neighborhood.

When you receive the card please call the office and express your wishes to our

office staff, so that they will put you on the schedule.

It would be beautiful if all our beloved parishioners of St. George would take

advantage of this very special blessings that is offered to them. Happy New

Αγαπητοί πιστοί, οι προσευχές κατά τη διάρκεια της Λειτουργίας των

Θεοφανείων ενδεικνύουν ότι οι άνθρωποι πρέπει να ευλογήσουν τα σπίτια

τους με Αγιασμό, ως έκφραση πίστης στο Θεό προκειμένου να μας χαρίσει

μία καλή και υγιή Νέα Χρονιά, γεμάτη με τις ευλογίες Του. Όλοι μπορούν να

συνεχίσουν αυτή την σπουδαία και πολύ σημαντική παράδοση, και να

ζητήσουν από τον π. Νεκτάριο να ευλογήσει τα σπίτια τους με Αγιασμό που

έχει ευλογηθεί κατά τη λειτουργία της 5ης Ιανουαρίου. Σύντομα, εάν όχι ήδη,

θα λάβετε μία ειδοποίηση από το γραφείο της Εκκλησίας με τις ημερομηνίες

και ώρες που ο π. Νεκτάριος θα είναι στη γειτονιά σας. Όταν λάβετε την

ειδοποίηση, παρακαλώ καλέστε στο γραφείο και δηλώστε το όνομά σας

προκειμένου να σας συμπεριλάβουμε κατά τον αγιασμό των σπιτιών.

ΣΗΜΕΡΑ η Φ ιλόπτωχος Αδελφότητα «Αγία Βαρβάρα» σας προσκαλεί να

εορτάσουμε την παραδοσιακή κοπή της Βασιλόπιτάς μας για το νέο έτος.

Είναι μία περίσταση που σηματοδοτεί το τέλος της εορταστικής περιόδου,

καθώς και ένας όμορφος τρόπος για να ξεκινήσουμε το νέο έτος 2018. Η κοπή

της Βασιλόπιτας θα γίνει στην Κοινοτική Αίθουσα ΑΧΕΠΑ αμέσως μετά το

τέλος της Θείας Λειτουργίας, και θα προσφερθεί γεύμα σε όλους τους

παρευρισκομένους. Ας κάνουμε όλοι μία προσπάθεια να παρευρεθούμε και

να κρατήσουμε αυτή την όμορφη παράδοση ζωντανή στις καρδιές μας για τα

παιδιά μας! Όλες οι δωρεές που θα ληφθούν θα δοθούν προς την Ακαδημία

FATHER NEKTARIOS’ MESSAGE

"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matt. 4, 17). With these few words, our

Lord began His earthly mission of teaching. Using a very few words, Christ conveyed a big

message.

“Repent.” This is a message that is always timely, inasmuch as no one is without sin. Each

one of us makes mistakes, in life. Saint John Chrysostom reminds us that a person may

very well be a good person, but not sinless. To consider oneself totally perfect is, within

itself, a sign of ego, which is a sin. One of our goals should be to become sinless.

“The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.” This is a reality that we live within the context of the

Church. Christ the King has come, and we experience Him, most especially through the

sacramental life of the Church.

As we go through our daily lives, let us live a life of repentance, in an effort to achieve

complete communion with our Lord, and may we live this life in His Kingdom.

STEWARDSHIP Dear faithful, soon you will receive in the mail an invitation to become a Steward along

with your 2018 Stewardship commitment packet. Throughout 2018, dear faithful servant,

we must have our Stewardship program serve as the basis for supporting most, if not all,

of our parish related activities. (There are quite a lot of churches whose stewardship

Program raises all the income that is needed to support the needs of the Church). This

means that from our Stewardship, all the day-to-day operations of our parish should be

supported from this. We must not allow our other fund raisers such as our community

dance, our festival, etc., to be used for our short term needs but rather have them used for

our long term needs.

Yes, it is true, that in our parish there is a minimum standard applied. But that minimum is

applied and necessary just so that our St. George can meet the necessary demands that our

church incurs on an annual basis. Imagine for a moment if our Gracious Lord only gave

each of us the bare minimum of His Blessings or of His Forgiveness. Where would we be?

Instead, though, our Lord gives us His full forgiveness and His full blessings for our

benefit. Please take special note of this year’s Stewardship Commitment packet, and if it is

in your heart to make the commitment, please do so at your earliest convenience. Have a

blessed New Year!!!

ΜΗΝΥΜΑ ΠΑΤΕΡΑ ΝΕΚΤΑΡΙΟΥ

«Μετανοεῖτε, ἤγγικε γὰρ ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν» (Ματθ. 4,17). Μέ αὐτὰ τὰ λόγια

ἄρχισε ὁ Θεάνθρωπος τὴν διακονίαν τοῦ Λόγου καὶ διδασκαλίας εἰς τὸν κόσμον. Λίγα

λόγια, τὰ ὀποία ἔχουν βαθὺ νόημα.

«Μετανοεῖτε» Ἔνα ἐπίκαιρο θέμα. Ποιός δὲν κάνει λάθη εἰς τὴν ζωήν; Ποιος εἶναι

PRIEST MESSAGE

τέλειος; «Οὐδείς ἀναμάρτητος.» Ὁ ἰερὸς Χρυσόστομος μᾶς γράφει: «Δέν ὑπάρχει

ἄνθρωπος ἀναμάρτητος. Καί ἄν μοῦ πεῖς ὅτι ὁ τάδε εἶναι δίκαιος εἶναι σπλαχνικός,

εἶναι φιλάνθρωπος θὰ συμφωνήσω. Δέν μπορεῖ, ὄμως νὰ μὴν ἔχει καὶ κάποιο

ἐλάττωμα. Ἤ ἀπό τὴν κενοδοξία θὰ νικιέται ἤ ἀπό τὴν κακολογία ἤ ἀπό κάτι ἄλλο.

Ἔνας κάνει ἐλεημοσύνες, ἀλλά δὲν εἶναι ἀγνός. Ἄλλος εἶναι ἀγνός, ἀλλά δὲν κάνει

ἐλεημοσύνες. Ὁ ἔνας ἔχει τὴν μία ἀρετή καὶ ὁ ἄλλος τὴν ἄλλη. Ὁ Φαρισαίος νήστευε,

προσευχόταν. Δέν ἀδικοῦσε κανέναν, τηροῦσε τὸν νόμον. Εἶχε ὄμως ἀλαζονεία. Ἔτσι

καταδικάστηκε ἀπὸ τὸν Κύριον. Γιατί ἡ ὰλαζονεία τὸν ζημίωσε περισσότερο ἀπ`ὅσο θὰ

τὸν ζημίωναν ὄλες οἱ ἀμαρτίες μαζί. Δέν ὑπάρχει, λοιπόν, ἄνθρωπος ἀπόλυτα δίκαιος,

ἀπόλυτα ἐνάρετος, ἀπόλυτα καθαρός ἀπό ἀμαρτία.»

«Ἤγγικε γὰρ ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.» Ὁ Χριστός ἤρθε εἰς τὸν κόσμον… ἀφίχθη ὁ

Βασιλεῦς! Και ὁ Χριστός εἶναι μαζί μας καὶ τώρα. Ζοῦμε εἰς τὴν βασιλεία Του, ἐφ᾽ὅσον

ζοῦμε τὴν ζωήν τῆς Ἐκκλησίας, μὲ τὴν συμμετοχήν μας εἰς τὴν λειτουργικήν ζωήν τῆς

Ἐκκλησίας.

Εἰς τὴν καθημερινήν μας ζωήν, ἄς ζοῦμε ἐν μετανοίᾳ καὶ ἐν τῇ Βασιλείᾳ τῶν Οὐρανῶν. Η ΕΚΟΥΣΙΑ ΕΙΣΦΟΡΑ

Αγαπητοί πιστοί, σύντομα θα λάβετε με το ταχυδρομείο το πακέτο για την εισφορά του

2018. Το πρόγραμμα της Εκούσιας εισφοράς για το 2018 θα πρέπει να είναι ικανό να

καλύψει τις ανάγκες της κοινότητας και ενορίας μας, όπως γίνεται και με πολλές άλλες

εκκλησίες. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι οι καθημερινές ανάγκες της Εκκλησίας θα πρέπει να

μπορούν να καλυφθούν μέσω της Εκουσίας εισφοράς. Δεν πρέπει να βασιζόμαστε σε

άλλα προγράμματα της Εκκλησίας όπως τον ετήσιο χορό ή το φέστιβαλ για να

καλύψουμε τις ανάγκες του Αγίου Γεωργίου.

Είναι αλήθεια ότι υπάρχει μία ελάχιστη βάση εισφοράς, η οποία είναι όμως αναγκαία

για τις υποχρεώσεις της Εκκλησίας. Φανταστείτε για μία στιγμή εάν ο Θεός έδινε μόνο

MEMORIAL SERVICES

The Ladies Philoptochos Society “Saint Barbara” will be hosting its annual cutting

of the Vasilopita TODAY, immediately following the Divine Liturgy in the

AHEPA Hall. Let us all attend this traditional event as one family and give

generously to our annual donation for the children of Saint Basil’s Academy.

First Festival Meeting for the 2018 festival, will be on Thursday, January 18th,

at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Room. We are looking for people to come and join

our team. See you there!

On Sunday, January 28th, the PTO will sponsor a lunch in honor of the Three

Hierarchs and the Teachers. Please join us as we honor our Greek and Sunday

School teachers. The celebration will follow the Divine Liturgy in the AHEPA

Hall. The cost is $10 per person and children under 16 years old are free.

Saturday, February 3, 2018 the Cretan Fraternity “The White Mountains” will be

holding their Annual Dinner Dance at the Pines Manor, Edison, NJ. You’ll enjoy

great live music by Chris Zavolas and his band in the laiko programma, and by A.

Lilikakis - P. Krasadaki, and M. Fraros in the Cretan hour, excellent food, and an

exceptional dance performance by our award winning dance groups!!!. For

Free screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar will be held at church on

January 21, 2018. Professionals from St. Peter’s University Hospital will be

performing these procedures from 11:30 a.m.—1:30 p.m. This Health Fair event

is sponsored jointly by AHEPA Monroe 75 and Daughters of Penelope Tethys

The Saint George P.T.O cordially invites you to it’s Apokriatiko Glendi that will

take place on February 11th from 4:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. in the AHEPA Hall. Come

and enjoy a delicious dinner, DJ Entertainment, Dancing, Music, Raffle and most

important the performances from our talented dance groups. Don’t forget to

dress up your youngsters in their favorite costumes! Adults $40 (Children 12 and

under free, children 13-18, $10).

Following the success of last year’s Vacation Bible Camp, our ministry leaders are

gearing up for another successful camp at the beginning of June, and are looking

for volunteers for all positions, including: director, adult volunteers, student

volunteers and campers. We would like to see as many of you involved as

possible in order to continue this very energized and beneficial program for our
