Our Lenten AppealThis year we hope to raise at least $10,000 through our Lenten Appeal. These funds will be equally distributed in two ways: Connecting Ministries and Sanctuary Mission.

• Connecting ministries are strengthening our witness and helping us live our vision to help people connect with God and with each other.

• Sanctuary Mission will be providing support for immigrants and refu-gees in a variety of ways which will be vital in critical efforts to save lives, keep families together, and achieve justice for our neighbors.

To contribute to the Lenten Special Offering, you may use the Lenten offer-ing envelope found in the pew or go online to foundryumc.org and click on “Give Now” or you may dial Text2Give (202-400-3090) and then text the message #Lent with your amount.

Next Sermon Series: Soul FoodEvery living thing needs sustenance. Without it, life becomes weak, dry and incapable of survival. Sometimes, external conditions create a crisis, mak-ing it difficult to access what is needed to survive. For many people, this moment in our nation’s history has created a very challenging environment. The need to remain awake, vigilant, and responsive in our advocacy and service is exhausting. In order to be faithful, we simply must find ways to nourish our witness, to fuel our activity, to feed body and soul in ways that help us not only survive, but thrive. Over the course of this sermon series, we will explore topics and practices that provide sustenance for both the daily grind and the long haul. Join us for some “Soul Food!”

Sacred Resistance Ministry TeamSacred Resistance at Foundry targets policies and issues in the public square which affect our bedrock principles: human rights, care for the planet, and the basic right of every human being to live without fear of oppression, speak without fear of censorship, and worship peacefully without fear of hostility. For more information, please visit foundryumc.org/resist or contact the team anytime at [email protected].

Sunday, April 23, 12:45 PM: Advocacy TrainingCurious how to productively meet with elected officials? At the Sacred Resistance Advocacy Training, you will learn what “lobbying” actually is, including how the average citizen can interact productively with elected officials to effect change through letter writing, phone calls, and in-person visits. This interactive training will illustrate why your voice is so important to a healthy democracy. All are welcome.

Sunday, April 30: Across Cultural DividesJoin us from 12:45 - 2:00 PM as Foundry welcomes Randy W. Berry, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor. Dr. Hall is the Associate professor of Christian Ethics at Duke Divinity School and author of numerous published essays and three books, including “Kierkegaard and the Treach-ery of Love,” “Conceiving Parenthood: The Protestant Spirit of Biotechnological Reproduc-tion,” and “Writing Home with Love: Politics for Neighbors and Naysayers.” She is a profes-sor at Duke University, where she has served on the steering committee of the Genome Ethics, Law, and Policy Center.

Our 2017 Outstanding Preacher Series will bring a wide variety of voices to the Foundry pulpit to challenge, encourage, and inspire our ongoing witness. This year’s guest preachers will help us reflect on what it means to live “with God as our witness” in what is sure to be a strong culmination of this year’s guiding theme (“Next: Witness.)
