PREFACE

We hereby submit AQAR of our Sundarrao More Arts, Commerce and Science College, for the academic year 2009-2010. The main achievements of the college in this academic year can be summed up as follows 1. Two students of N.S.S. represented University in a state Level

Programme Organized to create awareness about importance of Energy and its resources during Ashadhiwari from Pune to Pandharpur in July 2009.

2. N.S.S. unit had undertaken Swine-Flu Awareness Programme as there is a sudden out break of the disease in the area.

3. The college published its first issue of yearly magazine Shivai in Feb 2010.

4. Some faculties have presented their research papers in National and state Level Seminars & Conferences.

5. Two faculties have obtained M.Phil degree of Y.C.M.O.U. Nashik.

In the light of ‘Future Plan' submitted to NAAC in our AQAR for the 2008-09, the IQAC of the college has chalked out an Action plan. The details of this plan and its outcome is shown in the following chart:

1 Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the Institution:

The Mission statement our college is: Higher Education for the deprived ones. To achieve this mission we have kept before us certain goals and objectives. Some of the activities undertaken by the college in this year towards achieving these objectives are as follows :

Objective: To impart higher education to educationally deprived students: In this academic year 2009-10, 664 students took admission in the college. Out of which 237 are girl students who otherwise would have been deprived of higher education, as there is no other facility of higher education available in this remote and hilly area. Schemes and activities undertaken by our college, such as Group Insurance Scheme, various scholarships, free ships, Book–Bank Scheme etc have proved very useful to encourage economically backward students of this area to take up higher education. Following chart shows the details of these schemes and activities.

Commencement of Second Year Class Science Faculty

As there was no faculty of higher education in Science stream, the students were deprived of Science Education. To remove this lacuna, sanstha has taken efforts and from this academic year 2007-2008 got the permission to start science faculty (Stream) Accordingly in the current academic year 2009-2010 we have started second year class of Science faculty as per Natural Growth.

Objective: To develop overall personality of the students To ensure overall personality development of out students, various committees and departments of the college have undertaken following activities in the academic year 2009-10.

1. National

Service Scheme

A. Two volunteers are selected and represented University in a State level programme of N.S.S from 17th June to 3rd July 2009. The programme was organized to create awareness and to spread message of ‘Save Energy’ on the occasion of ‘Ashadhi Wari’ from Pune to Pandharpur.

B. N.S.S. unit organized tree plantation programme in the college campus on 27th July 2009.

C. Orgnized Raskhabandhan programme in Leprosy Mission Hospital on 5th Aug 2009.

D. 20 N.S.S volunteers participated and worked as ‘ Special Police Officers’ during the occasion of Ganesh Festival in Sept 2009.

E. N.S.S unit organized Blood donation and blood group detection camp on 30th Nov 2009 which is a birthday of our Founder Hon’ble Prabhakarji More – Ex-Rural Development Minister of Maharashtra.

F. On 11th Nov 2009, Fayan Cyclon caused some damage to college building and also to nearby area N.S.S. volunteers participated in the Rescue Operation and also helped police department to normalize the traffic by removing trees and other things collapsed on Mumbai Goa National Highway (N.H.-17).

G. N.S.S. unit has also undertaken ‘Swine Flu Awareness Programme’ as the some part of Maharashtra witnessed the out break of this disease in Sept 2009. In this awareness programmes N.S.S. unit Installed Hoardings and Posters at public places and also distributed handbills to create awareness among the people.

H N.S.S. unit organized Residential Camp from 20th to 26th Dec 2009 at Turbhe Village. Apart from other works,’Medical Check Up Camp’ was also organized for local residence.

I In association with Sobati, a N.G.O. of Pen, N.S.S. unit organized H.B. Check Up Camp on 27th Jan 2009 and also distributed tablets and diet to girl students suffering from H.B. difficiency.

J 50 volunteers worked as ‘Special Police Officer’ in the Election of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on 13th Oct 2009.

K Organized Special Lecture of Prof. Aagam N.S.S. Rathnagiri Distric Co-ordinator on the occasion of Aids Awareness Week in Dec 2009.

2)Students Welfare Department

* Organized Micro Legal Literacy Camp on 14th Nov 2009 in association with Mahad Poladpur tehsil Legal Aid Advice Service and Bar Association Resource persons provided guidance regarding cyber law, anti raging laws, ,laws for women etc.

3) Women Development Cell

Organized a Special Lecture and ‘Power Point Presentation’ of Smt. Sunita Gandhi in March 2010 on ‘Gender Equality’ Smt. Gandhi is working for International Association which is working against all sorts of violence against women.

Organized Lecture of Dr. Pallavi Salunkhe on ‘Female Health’ on 6th Feb 2010.

4) Career Guidance Cell * Organized one day workshop for the students regarding the opportunities and vacancies available in recently launched Recruitment Program of various banks like S.B.I. Bank officers of local branch of Bank of India are participated in the workshop as Resource Persons.

* Organized lecture on 25th Nov 2009 of Mr. Anil Dhavan from Career Guidance Service, Aurangabad. Mr. Dhavan guided students on the subject ‘Opportunities in Merchant Navy And Army’.

* Organized Special Lecture of officers of H.C.L. Company under their project of Recruitment of Trainees.

* Two volunteers participated in Career Guidance and Competitive Exam Guidance Workshop organized by N.S.S. Dept of University at C.D. Deshmukh College Roha-Raigad in Feb 2010.

* Organized one day workshop on ‘Career Guidance ‘ on 3rd July 2009 in association with ‘Trust India Foundation Alibag’.

5)Science Association

One volunteer participated and presented ‘Project’ in Avishkar Festival Organized by university at Aanandibai Pradhan College, Nagothane-Pali on 30th Dec 2009.

Objective To Inculcate: Students are encouraged to take part in tree plantation, pules-

Polio, Swine Flu awareness Programme, Blood donation

Camp by N.S.S. department.

* N.S.S. volunteers assisted police department during Ganesh

Objective: To provide platform for students by encouraging them to take part in cultural, Sports and Extra Curricular Activities

In this academic year 2009-2010, Students are encouraged to

participate in various activities and competitions which are as follows.

1. Cultural Activities Committee

Cultural Activities Committee encouraged students to take part in various inter collegiate and university level competitions. The details of the is same are as follows.

* A college team participated in youth cultural festival of University in Sept 2009 held at Shrivardhan. Miss. Tejal Utekar received second prize in Essay writing Competition. * A college participated in ‘Intercollege one Act Play Konkan Trophy Competition’ at Thane on 27th Dec 2009. * Organized 4th R.D. Chitre Memorial Inter Collegiate Elocution Competition on 16th Jan 2010.

12 Colleges participated in this competition.

* Kiran Salunkhe won the first prize and Miss. Tejal Utekar won Appreciation prize in R.D. Chitre Inter Collegiate Elocution Competition on 16th Jan 2010. * Organized Annual Cultural Festival in Feb 2010. * Participated in a Cultural Programme organized by Poladpur Tehsil Office to celebrate Golden Jublee Year of Maharashtra on 1st May 2010. * Apart from this students participated in Intercollegiate Elocution Competition at Mahad (4th Dec 2009) Inter Collegiate Quiz Competition (V.N. College Mhasala 15th Feb 2010.), Inter Collegiate Essay writing Competition.

2)Sports Department

* Team of Boys & Girls students participated in Inter-Collegiate ‘Kabbadi’ and ‘Kho-Kho’ tournament in Oct 2009.

* 10 students participated in Raigad Fort Climbing Competition organized by University in Dec 2009.

8)N.S.S. Department

* N.S.S volunteers participated in Pre Republic Day Selection Camp at Panvel on 4th Sept 2009; Three volunteers participated in Leadership Training Camp at B.N. college pen in Oct 2009.

* Two N.S.S. volunteers participated in sateblevel Camp ‘Organized by University N.S.S. dept at J.N. Paliwala College, in Dec 2009.

2 New Academic Programs Initiated:

We have started some shorted short term Computer courses through Shivai I.T.C. As there was no facility of Higher Education in Science Stream, the students were deprived of Science Education, To remove this lacuna, Sanstha has taken efforts and from the academic year 2007-2008 got the permission to start Science faculty. Accordingly, in the current academic year 2009-2010, We have started third year class of science faculty as per natural growth. From the last academic year 2007-2008 we have started personal contact program centre (PCP) of Institution of Distance Education of University of Mumbai. This year (2008-2009) we have started P.C. program for the external students of M.A. and M.Com part II over all 100 students got the benefit of this PCP centre. The Sanstha has attempted to start Hardware & Networking Course in association with Jetking, a reputed institute of pune but due to poor response, the first batch could not started in this year.

3 Innovations in Curricular Design and transaction

It is well known that in an affiliated college system, modular curriculum has little place. In this year, our teachers participated in workshops organized to discuss the syllabi of their respective subjects. Some of them are also presented their Research Papers on the topics related with their subjects and also worked as Resource Person. The details of the same are as follows.

This year college participated in Digital University Programme launched by MKCL under which the procedure of admission, Eligibility of students and the other things were implemented with the help of Information technology. Results of home examination were also prepared with the help of computer programme.

This year the construction work of Computer Lab and Gymkhana Room

is completed. one room for Science Laboratory is also constructed. Some instrument, equipments chemicals are purchased for newly started

science faculty.

32 Health Center

Although, we do not have formal Health Care Centre, we organized General Health Check Up Camp on 10th December 2009. Doctors from Government Hospital and Primary Health Centre were invited in this camp. A separate form comprising all-important information about students' health was prepared. In this free camp, Doctors made check up of every student, recorded observations and guided the student for further treatment if necessary.

36 Activities of the Guidance and Counseling Unit

College has established “Guidance and Counseling Committee”. During the admissions and examination period, this committee provides guidance to the students and suggests the path of betterment.

Career Guidance Cell (CGC) of the college provides various information to the students by regularly displaying advertisements related to job opportunities in various fields. Besides CGC organized following program.

1. The workshop on “Personality and Soft skill Development” was organized on 21st Sept. 2009. Shri Sadanand Apte from Pune worked as a Resource Person.

2. Jetking, a well-known computer training institute has organized a one day workshop on ‘Opportunity’ in IT sector.

Monthly meetings were organized and proper direction was given for day to day working as well as plan for future. Computer awareness program was organized for improving the general level of efficiency.

C Future Plan of the institution for the academic year 2010-11 :

The college proposes to undertake the following activities in the next academic year 2010-11 :

1. To speed up the preparation work for Re-accreditation of the college and to submit RAR within prescribed time.

2. To start a unit of Extension Activities as per the suggestion of Previous NAAC Peer team.

3. To purchase some books and to subscribe some more journals for college library.

4. To purchase some more equipment and chemicals and tools for laboratories science.

5. To follow the procedure of University selection and to appoint Qualified teaching and Non-teaching staff for Science Faculty.
