Wyatt Panczuk is our member of the quarter. He has been a member of the YMCA since he was 15 months old. Wyatt was diagnosed

with leukemia at the age of three. During that time, Wyatt enrolled in indoor and outdoor soccer, basketball and flag football to focus his energy into. His mom says, “He is a very strong and brave boy. He is always ready for what comes next. He is a child that once you get to know, you will never forget him.” The Panczuk family loves coming to the Y for the friendly environment. “Every-one is like family there, and the staff members are always willing to help out. Being a part of the Y has even made our family closer. We have also gained friends that we will be a part of our life forever.” After fighting cancer two years, Wyatt is now cancer free!

3

The Employee of the Quarter is Jackie Eade, West Branch Coordinator. Jackie has worked in various departments. Jackie says “the only two departments I have not worked in is gymnastics

and performing arts…..There is a reason for that, I am not as graceful as I look.” Jackie’s favorite part of the job is building relation-ships. She loves having the opportunity to see babies grow into young adults, seeing family’s grow, reach goals, helping people’s through the ups and downs of life, hearing peoples success stories and how the Y has influenced so many member’s lives. Jackie’s husband Brad works for the city of Sandwich, her son Coleton is 7 and his pick of sports seems to be wrestling, and her daughter Kaydence is 4 and loves anything girly. They are crazy, loud, and always having a fun time!Jackie feels the Y, my parents, and sister are the building blocks of who she is today….” some good and some bad….but, I am who I am and proud of it.”

Child Care

Early Learning Center

Our Early Learning Center provides enriching experiences which facilitate a child’s cognitive social, physical and emotional growth. We use Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment Tool, both research based and designed to prepare your child for lifelong learning. It focuses on building a classroom community, strengthen-ing social emotional skills while integrating content learning in the areas of math, language and literacy, science, social studies and the arts. We strive to meet the developmental needs and temperament of each child by working in part-nership with families.

Our child care and preschool, licensed by the State of Illinois, provides a curriculum focused on education, leadership and character development. At the Y we believe that the first 5 years of life are the foundation for future success in school and life. We help children develop positive behaviors and values that continue with them throughout life. The Early Learning Center taps into each child’s unique strengths and interests to help develop confident learners.

Using the Creative Curriculum in both our child care and preschool gives parents the option for full day full year care OR half day preschool. The Early Learning Center offers the perfect balance of learning through play and intentional teaching. Using science and social studies and “first hand” experiences as a segue way to learning, children develop confidence, creativity and critical thinking skills necessary for Kindergarten.

Please contact Dana Lowe, Director, for questions on the Early Learning Center services. Dana Lowe-(630) 552-4100 extension 230 or [email protected]

Infants (6 weeks-15 months): Ratio 1:4Full time: $180/week $745/MonthThree day: $142/weekTwo day: $95/weekIn the infant classroom, our primary emphasis is meeting the infant’s daily needs and providing a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment. Children are provided experiences that foster and develop their cognitive, social/emotional and motor skills while encouraging their independence. Infants are engaged in developmentally appropriate toys, books, stories and finger plays throughout the day. They are learning through routines and attachments to their caregivers. Infant’s daily nap and meal schedules are based on the infants individual needs.

Toddlers (16-24 months): Ratio 1:5Full time: $180/week $745/MonthThree day: $142/weekTwo day: $95/week

In the toddler classroom, children are introduced to a more structured and regular routine. Children are provided an envi-ronment that encourages exploration and curiosity by offering child-initiated and teacher-guided activities. Toddlers have opportunities to make choices in art, sensory, explora-tion, problem-solving, music, books, self-help skills and interactive play. The toddler classroom provides a rest time as part of the daily schedule. Two’s: Ratio 1:8Full time: $170/week $702/MonthThree day: $135/weekTwo day: $90/weekIn the two’s classroom, the children discover a stimu-lating environment arranged into various interest and learning centers. Our goal for our two year olds include: developing valuable self-help skills such as potty training, personal hygiene, dressing self and putting toys away. We also focus on building cognitive skills, such as counting, sorting, recognizing letters, colors and shapes. Another important skill we work on is interacting with others. We have many opportunities for sharing, listen-ing and taking turns. The two’s classroom provides a rest time as part of the daily schedule.

Three to five year olds: Ratio: 1:10Full time: $165/week $682/MonthThree day: $127/weekTwo day: $85/weekThe three to five year old classrooms focus on the growth and development of the whole child: physically, intellectually, emo-tionally and socially. Activities and classroom centers are ori-ented to the child’s interest and developmental levels. Our three to five year olds are able to make choices in a variety of areas including: art and sensory activities, dramatic play, stories and books, music and movement, fine and large motor development and much more. Children continue to build their self-help skills and independence while developing their socialization skills through interactions with peers and adults.

Our program builds the foundation and prepares children for those skills needed in Kindergarten. Math, science, language areas, and pre reading and writing are emphasized. In addition, children learn important classroom skills such as taking turns, sharing and cooperation. Children learn to develop socially acceptable behaviors and positive social relationships through cooperative play experiences.

They will also have access to fine arts activities. In addition, your child will have the opportunity to extend their day and practice those important social emotional and self help skills needed for Kindergarten.

Mrs. Bell, one of our highly sought out teachers, will be teaching this class. Children who turn 4 by September 1st, 2013 are eligible.Fee: $95/month with youth membership

The Ted and Virginia Shaw Jump into Reading ProgramA special THANKS the Ted and Virginia Shaw Foundation for their generous donation. This funding has allowed the YMCA Early Learning Center to establish our first “Lending Library.” All children enrolled in the YMCA Early Learning Center childcare and/or preschool will participate while in school. Children will pick a book weekly to take home and read with their parent. A literacy activity will also be provided. Research shows that children who are read to consistently by their parents often begin reading earlier than their peers.

Contributions can be made with stock, cash, credit card or through a small increase to your monthly membership bank draft.
