We believe that life change happens best in small groups, through accountability, a sense of belonging and knowing that others care.

CONNECT GROUPS

INGLE FARM CONNECT GROUPAngelito and Marycel Gatdula

We were created to have deep relationships with God and with others.

The Bible says in Hebrews 10:24-25: And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

This passage focuses on the importance of meeting together with the community of faith. This is the very essence of being part of a connect group. We grow more when we are connected in a small group. Life

change happens best in circles, not just rows.

Ingle Farm connect group is made up of families of various ages, from young families to the senior ones. Having a diverse group like this helps everyone to relate and have a clearer picture of the challenges that we encounter or might encounter as we go through life. We are able to learn from the experiences of others as we dwell on each other’s testimonies.

Connect groups also create a safe environment where everyone is comfortable to express their fears, struggles and joys.

Meeting with other members enables us to have a close circle of friends who supports us, encourage us and pray with us. Fellow believers become close enough to see us as we are. Members of our connect group are able to help us know the truth about who we are, who God is, and what He is calling us to become.

Our connect group is held every Friday night. The location of each connect group varies but generally covers the areas around the Northern Suburbs like Parafield Gardens, Paralowie, Salisbury, Ingle Farm and Gilles Plains.

Yes, it might be hectic during the week. We all have jobs that keep us busy, houses to clean and kids to look after. However, despite these challenges, choosing to pause for a moment and gather around in a circle with God’s Holy presence in our midst is indeed one of the best ways to end a busy week and refresh our minds for the days ahead.

GIGGLE PATCH PLAYGROUP0-6 Years

We identify playgroups as holding many benefits for children, families and the overall community.

Giggle Patch Playgroup runs every Wednesday morning from 10am-12pm at 27 Sturt Street, Adelaide during school terms. An indoor playground and a variety of other activities are available for children under 6 years of age.

Parents are encouraged to come along to enjoy some time together where they can create new friendships and continue to develop existing ones. The children are able to play together and have some fun.

Tea and coffee is provided for parents. Everyone is requested to please bring a gold coin donation.

Giggle Patch Playgroup only runs during the school term and does not run during the school holidays.

We have enjoyed seeing some new faces in 2018 and are expecting really great things for the remainder of this year.

If you would like any further information on the Giggle Patch Playgroup or if you would like to volunteer, please contact Raquel Edwards or Rebekah Groom for details.

The church office is also available to offer further information. You may contact the church office via email or by phone.

CRÈCHE0-3 Years

Our crèche is open every Sunday morning during the service for all those aged 0-3 years. Parents are welcome to sign their kids in anytime from 9:45am and are asked to sign them out no later than 11:45am or whenever the service finishes.

Whilst crèche is running there are at least two of our church volunteers in the room to supervise and look after the children. Our volunteers do their best to make sure your children feel comfortable and settled in our crèche environment, and will ensure they have lots of fun!

Our crèche consists of an open space where children have access to a variety of fun toys, craft materials, books and more.

Children also have the opportunity to enjoy our indoor playground where they have the freedom to play and interact with other children.

Attached to our crèche is a feeding room for breastfeeding mothers and babies. An audio link and a window looking out into the auditorium allows mothers to see and hear what is going on in the church service whilst they are using the room.

This term our team are continuing on with a fun biblical series made for toddlers. The overall series is called ‘My Big Backyard’ and teaches our kids that God is a good friend and shows them how they can be good friends too! The main character, Jack, faces some backyard dilemmas. With the help of a few backyard bugs, he learns how to be a good friend. The series also features relevant Bible stories.

GROW3-6 Years

Well its June and that means winter is upon us. As we all know, with winter comes sickness. If your child becomes unwell over this colder season please let one of our Grow team members know so that we can pray for them.

Throughout June we will be getting back into our curriculum. We have many stories and new games planned out for this month.

In addition to following our curriculum we will also be revisiting some of the other lessons we have covered this year. The purpose of doing this is so our kids are reminded of the important things they have learnt over the course of 2018.

In May we had a lot of fun with Mother’s Day. We also enjoyed changing the carpet in the Grow room! If you have not seen the new carpet we would love for you to come up after the service and have a look at our room and some of the childrens’ work.

Our challenge for this month (for those that follow our challenges) is to ask a child what their favourite Bible story is and why? Then go back to your Bible and rediscover the story through a child’s eyes.

Just to close on a fun note, I asked our Grow kids what they have been praying for. There were a variety of answers but the one that I found the most touching was from one girl who wanted her little sister to hurry up and grow so they could play together.

God Bless, Cassie Beattie

ELEVATE7-11 Years

Throughout the month of June Elevate will be continuing on with their curriculum on Bible Superheroes!

These lessons are designed to encourage children to think of Bible Superheroes in the same way that they think of Spiderman and Superman.

The impression we want to leave children with is that Bible heroes can live in their hearts with an even more dynamic impact than today’s superheroes.

Bible heroes are timeless and powerful because they are attached to the Living God, who does not change and does not slumber or sleep.

Our Elevate children will relate to the flaws and weaknesses of the superheroes when they are in their human state and will have precious memories to hold onto concerning what God has done in history—and what God can do in their lives.

Our Elevate team are looking forward to another great month with our children!

ETC is affiliated with and recognised as a Resource Training Centre of Vision International University.

This year we have approximately 30 people enrolled in our course.

Everyone has completed their first subject Faith Dynamics and their second subject Fresh Manna. Last month everyone moved onto their third subject Christian Life and will continue with this throughout June.

Paul stated that whenever possible we are to live our lives at peace, especially within the household of faith. The Christian Life course teaches the pattern for gracious living, and the manner in which Christians should relate to themselves, to their neighbours, to society and to God.

EQUIP TRAINING COLLEGEEquip Training College (ETC) is our new training initiative as a church. We are intentional about equipping effective followers of Christ and well-trained leaders who are able to lead others in life and ministry.

Adelaide Christian Centre (ACC) places a high importance on identifying, equipping and releasing people with a ministry gift into Christian service and leadership within the local church, community and throughout the world. To achieve this, ETC has been established.

Our expectation is that each of our students will be taught the fundamentals of the faith in a way that will transform their life and

ADELAIDE CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS

A significant part of the mandate of our church is Christian Education. Leo Harris had a vision for Christian Education and plans were developed in 1976 and 1977 for a Christian School. Sunrise Christian School was founded in 1978 in Fullarton. A few years later Temple Christian College was founded as a sister organisation for high school students.

Adelaide Christian Schools (ACS) is an organisation that aims to oversee and support its schools ranging from Reception to Year 12 in co-educational settings and other training establishments. ACS is called to educate and train children in all aspects of life in such a way that God is seen to be the centre of everything - to be an extension of the Christian home, fulfilling the God-given mandate for parents to bring up their children in His ways.

The schools are governed by a Board with membership comprising individuals with vast experience and expertise from a variety of industry sectors. The Board works closely with Committees and Advisory Groups that have been established in each school community to engage with local leadership at a grass roots level, providing an opportunity for local input and expression.

ABOUT USACS governs and supports 11 schools. These schools comprise of approximately 2300 students and in excess of 250 staff. Each school offers its own distinctive qualities that focuses on the role of the family in education, character development and excellence in academics.

SUNRISE BETHEL CHRISTIAN SCHOOLSunrise Bethel Christian School is located in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea and it comes under the banner of Adelaide Christian Schools (ACS). Adelaide Christian Centre currently supports Sunrise Bethel Christian School $300 a month.

In the following columns we have included a few excerpts from the school’s latest newsletter that was published on Saturday 19 May, 2018.

We encourage everyone to read through the following excerpts to familiarise yourself with some exciting things that are going on within our school in Papua New Guinea.

Excerpts From the Newsletter

From the Principal

This last week was full of family events with our beautiful Mothers’ Day Assembly last Friday and on Tuesday our wonderful celebration of families.

We thank all our families for supporting and sharing in our very first International Day of Families.

The park was the perfect venue for our school community to come together, and we would like to thank the Nature Park for their generous discounts on entrance fees for this event.

All of the activities and class games became so much more fun when some of our parents joined in and the competition grew!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this day such a significant community day.

Missions Giving

Each Friday morning our students collect donations towards missions projects.

Last week the Grade 8 class made a significant contribution of K268.50 through their mathematics economics lesson, where they set up a shop and learnt about profit and loss.

This money will be going towards a children’s project for those impacted by the Papua New Guinea earthquakes earlier this year.

Sports Day

Sunrise Bethel Christian School’s Sports

Day will be happening on Friday 8th June at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

Children will not come to school on this day, but only attend at the stadium. All parents are invited to join.

Grade Four Class

The Grade Four class had a special visit from local expats Evelyn and Edwina who spent some time sharing their skills as teachers and painters.

The students learnt various skills about managing and using paint brushes effectively, and how much paint to use for the best effects.

The final artworks were impressive!

MISSIONS

FIJI PRESCHOOLS DEVELOPMENT PROJECTWe believe that an achievable way to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development is through providing quality early learning education for preschool children in order to create a foundation for ongoing learning, which will assist in eventual employment. This is the emphasis and basis for our preschool program in Fiji.

Bethel Crusade Preschools began in Suva in 1994 with nine children. Since then approximately 3000 children have been through and graduated from our preschools. Bethel Crusade Preschools has expanded to reach a total of eight preschools located throughout Fiji in

Suva, Savusavu, Labasa, Lakena, Sigatoka, Daku, Nacavanadi and Koro Island.

Our curriculum and ethos has lifted the standard of preschool education within the communities we work in. Local families, communities, and government agencies see them as being providers of high quality, top calibre preschool education. Primary schools have stated that students who have attended a Bethel Crusade Preschool are significantly advanced in comparison to other children when they begin school.

Over the next three years we are embarking on a new project to improve Bethel Crusade Preschools for students, teachers and the local communities they are involved in and connected to.

The major objective of the new project is: To have eight fully functioning preschools

complete with facilities that meet government and OHS standards, trained and certified teachers, and sewing courses to empower mothers and other women in the preschool communities.

This project has three main goals through which the major outcome will be acheived.

Goal one is to establish and maintain preschool facilities that meet government and OHS standards. The outcome of this goal will be to have fully functioning sanitary toilet facilities and safe playgrounds in every preschool by the end of 2020.

Goal two is to improve quality of education and management of the preschools through enhancing teacher capacity. The outcome of this goal will be to have preschool teachers that are professionally equipped to run preschools and deliver quality education.

Goal three is to provide sewing courses to empower mothers and other women in preschool communities to better provide for their families. The outcome of this goal will be to have women who are equipped with skills that enhance employability and improve the livelihoods of target communities.

We have been able to maintain tax deductible benefits for this project through Global Development Group (GDG). SRI LANKA DISPLACED CHILDREN DEVELOPMENT PROJECTWhile the Sri Lankan civil war is over and peace has come to the nation there are still thousands of scarred and traumatized lives. Children still have to face the aftermath of war, poverty and dysfunctional families traumatized by the conflict. Many of them have been displaced and/or neglected.

We believe that in order for children to reach their full potential in life they need a safe and supportive environment. Bethel Children’s Homes in Sri Lanka have been in

operation since 1998 when the first home opened with 11 girls. Since then two new homes have been built to house more girls on the same property and a new property was purchased to build a home for boys.

In addition to the homes, in 2005 16 acres of land was purchased to be used as a farm. At present it is not operating to full capacity. However, we are committed to the ongoing development of our children’s homes and in order to achieve greater sustainability the farm needs to become fully functioning.

This commitment has encouraged us to launch a three-year project for the homes with the following major objective: To support and empower displaced children and young people through quality education (primary, secondary and tertiary), improved healthcare, adequate subsistence (food, clothing, accommodation, water,

sanitation and recreation), a safe family-like living environment, and ongoing developmental support (physical, emotional, mental and intellectual).

This project has three main goals through which the major outcome will be acheived.

Goal one is to have a functioning farm that contributes to the ongoing sustainability of the project. The outcome of this goal will be to have a fully functioning farm with crops and animals that will provide more funds to decrease the dependency of the project on outside funding.

Goal two is to establish a Vocational Training Centre that runs short courses to train and empower young people as they transition to independent life. The outcome is that young people are provided with an opportunity to gain valuable skills that will increase their employability and livelihoods, and decrease their overall dependency on the homes.

Goal three is to empower displaced and disadvantaged Sri Lankan children through education, developmental support and a safe living environment. The outcome of this goal is that the children and staff thrive in a family-like environment, with sound care, support and education opportunities.

We have been able to secure tax deductible benefits for this project through Global Development Group (GDG). If you would like to assist in achieving each of the goals mentioned you are more than welcome to make a donation. MISSIONS

INDIA UPDATEPurnima Devi

First of all I would like to say thank you very much for all of your support and prayers and for standing with us every day. We really appreciate this.

God is doing many good things in people’s lives here in India. We have been working in the Manipuri region and our team is doing very well.

When we came to this region of Manipuri for the first time it was a bit hard for us to understand the local language. However, by the grace of God and your prayers we are beginning to understand the language little by little.

It is challeging but it is also a joy to serve God.

We have had a very good response from different people when we go out for outreach. Sometimes people just ignore us and what we say. However, after we explain what Christ has done for them and why it is important, this news brings smiles to people’s faces.

In the first month during our outreach here in this region we met one very young girl who gave her heart to the Lord. Her name is Anita and she will be our first student in our new Evangelos International Traning Institute (EITI).

We currently have four house fellowships that we go to. We pray for people and share the Word of God. We also teach the people how they can know more about Christ in their lives.

Once again I would like to thank all of the church family very much for all of your support. Your prayers and support are playing a significant role in what God is doing here in India.

It is not only us here who are part of this work; we are all part of it.

Our school will begin this month. We are looking forward to welcoming all of our students at EITI.

We currently have 13 students that are coming to study in the school. It will be very exciting to see them come.

Thank you one again Pastor and church for standing with us spiritualy and physicaly. Our team here appreciates all of you. Without your prayers we would not be able to do this work. Once again, all of us have a role to play in what is happening here.
