Key AttributesA research engineered partition panel purpose-built fornoise isolation applications in architectural spaces!

MAT™ BSB and MAT BSB Plus are mass-loaded, smooth-surfaced, seamless-finished partition panel for the aestheticsdesired by an architect and the acoustics specified by theconsultant. A dream come true for the PMC and the client!

MAT™ BSB and MAT BSB Plus fulfil the major acousticfunction of wideband noise isolation to ensure partitionsdo not experience a coincidence dip due to resonantfrequencies like other building materials.

In fact, MAT BSB and MAT BSB Plus are one of the heaviestpartition panels available in the building material industry.

Unique TechnologyIn simple terms, the outer surface of the acoustic plasterreflects HF and vibrates the MF when soundwaves strike it.The MF passes onto the inner matrix core which absorbs it.Any residual MF waves are further trapped by the secondsurface which then may marginally vibrate (depending on theintensity of sound) and transmit the weakened soundwavesto the AnutoneSynth AW that is filled in the partition void.

In case of LF the entire panel resists due to mass loading andany residual vibrations due to membrane resonator effectare transferred to the AnutoneSynth AW infill. Thus broadbandnoise isolation is achieved.

Typical ApplicationsMAT™ BSB and MAT BSB Plus is used for noise-isolantceilings, panellings and partitions mainly in• offices - conference rooms, meeting rooms, training

rooms, special AV rooms, board rooms, executive cabins• hotel - banquet halls, guestrooms.

AestheticsMAT™ BSB with a combination of AnutoneStrap andAnutoneSeam for butt joints and AnutoneStripe for cornerjoints with AnutoneSkim insitu cross-hatched sprayed onthe installed surface, assists in camouflaging edge jointsand rendering a smooth, seamless finish. A Level 5 trimis possible provided trained skillsets execute the job!

Framework• AnutoneStrut for ceilings, panellings• AnutoneStudd for partitions

MAT BSB and MAT BSB Plus can be suspended inAnutoneSkelet T-system for accessible ceilings but willrender only aesthetics and not provide noise isolation.

MAT™ BSB

Design ConsiderationsFor achieving optimium noise isolation performance (FSTC- Field Sound Transmission Class) design requirementsinclude LF-induced vibration management, HVAC noisecontrol, flanking paths, openings etc.

MAT™ BSB is an engineered noise isolant panel but needsa design approach, domain experience and high-fidelityinstallation for being effective in its application. Mere useof MAT™ BSB as a partition panel does not guarantee fullnoise isolation.

Designing

Anutone through its own special design team undertakesthe acoustical, visual and spatial designing of rooms.

Anutone takes a holistic view of the multi-sensoryperception factor - the harmonious play of the five senses- so important for achieving occupancy comfort.

Necessary software, modelling techniques and projectexperience guarantee the ultimate in performance.

Low-frequency induced vibration, HVAC noise control, flanking paths, openings treatment, building junctions, sound absorption areas, loudspeaker placement etc, oftenthe reason for poor acoustic performance, are all microconsidered.

Also considered in detail are are optimum colours andlighting for video imaging, display formats, visual angles, seating layout, ergonomics, comfort, life safety etc.

Large-format computer drawings are generated for easysite interpretation. Limitations of project sites is knownand idiotproof systems developed.

Hand-holding the project management team and post-installation testing ensures completion of the project cycle- a one-stop design solution.

Supplying

All specified products are supplied by Anutone as perOrdering Checklist. There is no mix and match, nouncertainty.

Compatible products that link the design chain andconform to international standards means Anutone isthe one-stop single-source turnkey solution forproducts.

Contracting

Installation of the room’s various components isundertaken by authorised applicators.

Such rooms represent a speciality installation and it isstrongly recommended to engage the trained skillsets ofexperienced personnel that use state-of-the-arttechnologies that include modern tools - electric, pnuematic, gas - as required for project sites.

Personnel must be trained and skilled to undertakecomplex installations and render a complete finish.

Preparation

Ensure the building elements like floor, walls and roofs towhich the AnutoneSuite Room’s elements will bejunctioned are complete, finished, level, cured and dry, prior to commencing the work.

Ensure all materials as per Ordering Checklist andFinishing Tools Checklist required to make this technicalinstallation are fully available at site.

Do not commence work with an incomplete checklist.

Human reach is optimal for 2 m height and hence ensureappropriate scaffolding equipment like 2 m platforms orstilt tools etc adequately available at site.

Ensure safety equipment that includes goggles, nosemask, gloves are available to all installation personnel. Ifsite requirements include hard hat then the same shouldalso be worn.

For walls upto 4 m height, safety nets and belts are notnecessary. Ensure First Aid box, fully stocked, always atsite.

Other building trades that need to simultaneously workwith the AnutoneSuite Room construction like HVAC,electric, piping, AV/IT cabling etc should be ready withtheir materials and equipment.

Do not commence work if others are not fully ready.

Ensure final approved project drawings are available atsite and understood by the hands on personnel executingthe AnutoneSuite Room system.

Marking of the boundary lines of the AnutoneSuite Roommust be made on the building elements as per approveddrawings with either chalkstring or laser leveller tool.

Part Two - Framework

Caulking - AnutoneFire

Apply AnutoneFire - a noise and fire rated, non-hardeningresilient caulking compound - with an appropriate caulkingdispenser tool - two bead lines of 6 mm at a pitch thatdivides the AnutoneStudd FC & HC metal frameworkfootprint depth equally on the floor and roof that are toreceive the partition walls. (See Fig 1)

AnutoneFire bead lines are also applied whereAnutoneStudd SC50 would abut the building walls.

INSTALLATION GUIDELINES

Part One - Pre-installation

Fig 1

4

Page 5: MAT BSB Brochure

All surfaces must be level, clean and dry prior to theapplication of AnutoneFire caulking compound

Padding - AnutoneStand Neo

Optional - Where base floor is highly uneven or structuralvibration, that is induced by low frequency (LF) soundwavesor mechanical equipment, is envisaged, AnutoneStandNeo pads (an ideal blend of neoprene and rubber withvibro-acoustic control characteristics) of specifiedthickness and hardness, usually 5 mm thick and 55 durohardness, are installed on the floor with AnutoneFire beadlines and again AnutoneFire bead lines applied on the padto received the AnutoneStudd framework. (See Fig 2) Optional - If LF-induced vibration is envisaged then

AnutoneStudd Resilient Channels (RC) are installedperpendicular to the AnutoneStudd SC.

Alternatively, AnutoneSway resilient wall braces areinstalled on the AnutoneStudd SC50 at 1200mm verticalcentres and 600mm horizontal centres. The AnutoneSwayare fitted with AnutoneStrut CC22 channels at 600mmcentres, as shown. (See Fig 5)

Raceways are then installed in the 50mm void created inthe AnutoneStudd system for cable management (byothers, not by Anutone).

Framework - AnutoneStudd

Anutone’s superior metal framing that boasts KENfeatures of Knurling, Edge seaming and Notching is usedfor the wall skeleton.

AnutoneStudd Floor Channel (FC) and Head Channel(HC) of specif ied depth, usually 50 mm, aremechanically fastened to the building elements withAnutoneStitch PB - mechanical fasteners - at 300 mmpitch with a electric self-drilling tool. (See Fig 3) ForAnutoneStitch PB, holes are first drilled in the concrete, plugs inserted and the screws fastened. Where basemasonry is weak, AnutoneStitch AB expansion boltsare inserted for better grip.

For openings, like windoors (windows/glazing and doors),ducting etc AnutoneStudd Box Channel (BC) or a pair ofmated SoundStudd SC50 channels are used for additionalreinforcement. The BC/SC channels are connected atright-angle joints with AnutoneStudd L-Clamps (LC). (SeeFig 6)

Fig 6

Fig 4

Fig 3

Optional - If slab deflection is envisaged then theAnutoneStudd Deflection Head Channel (DHC) is used forpositive attachment and movement.

AnutoneStudd Studd Channels (SC) of specified depth, usually 48 mm, are then inserted in the FC/HC and twistedinto position at 600 mm centres. (See Fig 4)

Fig 5

Fig 2

5

Page 6: MAT BSB Brochure

If HC / FC / SC channels need to be mechanicallyconnected then use AnutoneStitch BTH813 fasteners(Code OC5-8-18x13-BTH-RP)

Part Three - Infill

Infill - AnutoneSynth AW with AnutoneStick S7

AnutoneSynth AW - a thermally-bonded, chemically-free,polyester-wadding acoustic infill - of specs 10x50 andfactory-sized 600mm width is positioned in between theAnutoneStudd air cavity and retained by adhering withAnutoneStick S7, a contact adhesive, onto the framework.

(ashlar pattern). The V-notch on the AnutoneStudd SC50helps to sightline the joints.

Optional - To deliver an integrated and monolithicconstruction for superior noise isolation and prevent‘rattling’ sound due to low-frequency excitation, the paneledges, their contact points with the AnutoneStudd metalframework and the AnutoneStitch mechanical fasteners, are all coated with AnutoneStick JB. Added advantage isan alteration in the natural resonant sound frequencies ofthe various components and superior siesmic resistance(earthquake-proof).

Next, a second layer of MAT™ BSB / MAT™ BSB Pluspanels of specified thickness, tapered edge profile, densityand dimensions, usually 1200x600x15mm, are thenmechanically fastened to the AnutoneStudd withAnutoneStitch DCSK730 at 600 mm centres by the electricself-drilling tool. 6 nos. AnutoneStitch DCSK730 for paneldimensions of 1200x600mm are fastened 12 mm fromthe panel edge.

This second layer is installed on a bead of AnutoneFirecaulking compound for those panel perimeters that abutthe masonry floor / wall / ceiling.

The second layer of MAT™ BSB / MAT™ BSB Plus isstaggered 300 and 600 mm, vertically and horizontally, respectively, such that no joints of the first and secondlayer coincide. This not only assists in superior noiseisolation techniques but also ensures the AnutoneStitchfasteners are suitably spaced.

To achieve this the second layer bottom panel, is half-sized with an electric cutting tool. The BSB outer panelsabutting the floor, wall and ceiling are caulked withAnutoneFire. (See Fig 8)

Sealing - AnutoneSilica/ AnutoneFire

All the butt joints of the MAT™ BSB are first sealed with acontinuous bead of AnutoneSilica fire-rated acousticalsealant by means of a caulking dispenser tool - theAnutoneSilica cartridge gun.

Fig 8

Fig 7

Alternatively, AnutoneSynth AW is installed after one layerof MATTM BSB panels are installed on one side ofAnutoneStudd and retained by adhering with AnutoneStickS7 onto the BSB panels. (See Fig 7)

AnutoneSynth AW is EHS-friendly and, unlike syntheticmineral fibres (SMF) - fibreglass wool or mineral wool, encapsulation in protective polyethylene film or tissuepaper is not necessary.

Part Four - Panels

Panels - MAT™ BSB

MAT™ BSB/MAT™ BSB Plus acoustical panels of specifiedthickness, tapered edge profile, density and dimensions, usually 1200x600x15mm, are then mechanically fastenedto the AnutoneStudd with AnutoneStitch DCSK720 at 600mm centres by the electric self-drilling tool. 6 nos.AnutoneStitch DCSK720 for panel dimensions of1200x600mm are fastened 12 mm from the panel edge.

The MAT™ BSB panels are butt jointed but staggered

MAT BSB

6

Page 7: MAT BSB Brochure

If two glass panels are butt jointed for continuous visual claritythen AnutoneSilica acoustical sealant must be injected intothe joint depth. It is recommended the glazing matches theSTC rating of the 110mm thick acoustical partition. Theglazing must consist of at least 12mm thick laminated glassto isolate the sound waves in the speech frequencies.

Jointing - AnutoneSeam and AnutoneStrap F

Jointing of BSB panels is either manual with spatula toolor mechanised with taping banjo / automatic tapingmachine tool.

Skirting - AnutoneSonator

The wall-floor junction is offset with a 150mm high skirtingof 8mm thick AnutoneSonator. The AnutoneSonator isadhered on the second layer of BSB with AnutoneStickJB. Optional - Care is taken to ensure the lower edge ofAnutoneSonator is raised 6mm from the floor toaccommodate the 5mm thick AnutoneStep acousticcarpet tiles. (See Fig 12)

Fig 12

Fig 11

For the AnutoneSmart BSB panels with TaperEdge,AnutoneSeam is applied 1 mm thick, then AnutoneStrap Fis applied and again AnutoneSeam 1 mm thick is applied.(See Fig 10)

On drying the joints are sanded with a pole sander toolusing grit 150 sandpaper.

Corners - AnutoneStripe

AnutoneStripe is installed at the outside and inside cornersincluding ceiling-wall junctions for the perfect angularalignment, corner straightness and sharpness, plus theadded advantage of resistance to post-occupancy abuse.(See Fig 11)

AnutoneStripe is dipped in AnutoneSeam using a specialtool and embedded in the corner joints of the MAT BSB.

MAT BSB

Fig 9

Fig 10

MAT BSB

Sealing - Glazing

Optional - If glazing is used in conjuntion with the 110mmacoustical partition walls of the room, then AnutoneSnipneoprene-based acoustical gaskets with AnutoneSilicaacoustical sealant is used at the junction of the dissimilarmaterials. (See Fig 9)

Page 8: MAT BSB Brochure

Part Five - Openings

Penetrations - MAT™ BSB, AnutoneSeam etc

All penetrations to the walls of the room must achieve thesame noise isolation to ensure overall acousticaleffectiveness.

The perimeter of all openings must be ringed withAnutoneStudd BC and receive two layers of MAT™ BSBsimilar to the wall. All panel joints must be sealed withAnutoneSeam and SoundStrap F.

Optional - Where HVAC duct vibration is likely, a layer ofAnutoneStand Neo, 110mm depth x 5mm thick x 55 durohardness is adhered onto the opening with AnutoneStickS7. (See Fig 13)

HVAC noise control - AnutoneSplit

For supply air, AnutoneSplit noise attenuators may beinstalled if the walls of the room form the boundary of theacoustically-sensitive architectural space.

Similarly for return air, either AnutoneSplit or AnutoneSieveacoustical louvres may be installed. These are friction

Fig 13

MAT BSB

fitted (and joints sealed) in the treated wall openings thatare created above the false ceiling level in the plenumspace. (See Fig 13)

Optional - If roof or duct vibration is an issue theAnutoneSplit attenuators may be suspended from theroof by AnutoneSuspend AF acoustical hangers.

It is strongly recommended that the internal lining of theHVAC ducting for sound absorption and thermal insulationis done with AnutoneSconz acoustical melamine foam andnot Synthetic Mineral Fibres (SMF) as the latter is notEHS-compliant.

Doors - AnutoneStay

AnutoneStay wooden frame-shutter assemblies areinstalled as per aesthetics and acoustics requirements, the latter usually being STC40. (See Fig 14)

Optional - If AnutoneStay acoustical doors are not optedfor then AnutoneSnip NN acoustical gaskets must beused in the wooden frame-shutter assemblies ofcustom-made doors by the f i tout vendor. The

8

Page 9: MAT BSB Brochure

AnutoneSnip NN gasket set features a perimeterneoprene-aluminium seal for the jamb and head andautomatic drop-down seals for a threshold-free bottomto ensure STC ratings of upto 40.

Electrical switchboxes

Openings created due to electric switchboxes or cablingare offset and backed with MAT BSB boxing that is sealedwith AnutoneSeam jointing compound and caulked withAnutoneSilica. (See Fig 15)

Fig 14

It is very important that all perimeter joints of allopenings or wherever disimiliar materials meet, aretreated with AnutoneSeam that is further caulked withAnutoneSilica.

Part Six - Finishing

Surfacing

The entire wall surface is sanded smooth with a polesander tool and wiped clean with a dampened roller tool.It is now ready to receive AnutoneSkim, the final surfacefinish that imparts a Level 5 trim (egg shell type supersmooth). Alternatively, the walls of the room are readyto receive textured pattern rendering.

AnutoneSkim is sprayed on the wall surface with an airlessspray tool in a crosshatch pattern or if texture is requiredthen it is sprayed with a pnuematic hopper gun tool. Toresult in super smooth surfaces light sanding may be donewith the pole sander tool.

The walls are now ready to receive paint finishes as perarchitect’s choice (not by Anutone).
