Australia is one of the biggest land masses in the world. It is roughly the same size as the
United States, and has enough land to cover 70% of Western Europe with bodies of water
included. The country, however, are not immune to geographical truths: a big land mass is
most likely to experience wild weather changes. Australia, being the climatically diverse
country that it is, goes through storms, earthquakes and bushfires.
While the natural phenomena cause immeasurable damage to nature, natural disasters
pose the biggest danger to residential areas. Homeowners fall short of building fortresses,
leaving them to hope for the best that the calamity is weak and will pass easily.
Nonetheless, one should always be ready in the event of a storm.
An American university found out that some home improvements, including safe rooms
and garage doors, will enhance structural strength.
Strength by Strength, Piece by Piece
Dr. Andrew Graettinger said that people need to consider house components that cause
the least amount of human life. He pointed out, though, that the weak areas should
receive focus on improvement. With each piece, homeowners are able to strengthen their
house as a whole. They found that garage doors improve the sturdiness of garages, which
is a special weak point without its roof.
Furthermore, they emphasised the need for quality garage doors. It has to stay strong, so
not to avoid tearing during strong winds. Such an event will pressurise the garage,
weaken the walls and collapse it from the inside.
A Silent Danger, Shut Out
Another venture that went into garage
doors also found another purpose, and a
very important one. Keeping out cold
weather will lower the risk of carbon
monoxide (CO) poisoning, a silent killer
among offices and homes. There are a
number of CO-producing appliances in
any house, including furnaces, ranges and
water heaters. CO poisoning is most
effective during cold season, and a
garage door keeping out crisp winds can
just be a lifesaver.
Furthermore, research head Donna Seger
urges homeowners to have CO detectors
installed for maximum safety. Other tips
include closing all CO-emitting appliances
and keeping all points of entry closed.
Structural strength and aerial safety;
none more make garage doors important.
The hope is homeowners will act
imperatively to prevent untoward
incidents.
