Primary 7

Our responsibilities keep on growing and we now help

out during lunchtimes as well as have a fortnightly

meeting with Ms Hill to discuss our plans and how we

can help the school to improve. We are helping to or-

ganise the Christmas Pop Up Event in December…. See

below for more details.

Primary 1-3

The P1-3 children have been enjoying learning about rainforests. Did you know that where we live is very special as it is a Celtic rainforest? We have also been doing lots of interesting work with adjectives and have been writing scary settings! We can’t wait to go swimming this term and are looking forward to you seeing our crafts at the Christmas pop-up shop!

Primary 4-7

In P4-7, we rounded up our Roman Topic by making stop motion animations to apply what we had learnt, whilst the P7s made an interesting PowerPoint presentation about Primary sources of evidence and what they tell us about what Roman life was like. We also had a visit from two archaeologists who have both worked on excavating the Dun Deardail hillfort in Fort William, who brought artefacts from the Celts and the Romans. This term we have started our new topic ‘Catch Me if You Cam!’ and, with the help of Eilidh-Ann, placed a wildlife camera in a top secret location to capture local wildlife. Keep an eye on the Website, Facebook and Twitter for photos.

Class News!

Christmas is Coming… Christmas Card Fundraiser

This year we are participating in the Christmas Card Project with Art Projects for schools. All children

have designed their very own card which you will be able to order online. Thanks to the Parent Council

for organising this— information to follow from Laura Sutherland.

Pop Up Christmas Event

The nursery and school children are all very busy in class preparing crafts for our ‘Pop Up Christmas

Event’ on Tuesday 12th & Wednesday 13th December in the village hall. There will be Christmas crafts

stall, teas, coffees, mince pies and art work on display. All Welcome!

Nativity & ‘Cinders’

It’s Pantomime season once again…. Oh, yes it is!! Rehearsals are already underway and this year, the

P4-7 class will be performing “Cinders” while the P1-3 class will present a short nativity.

The performances will take place on Wednesday 20th December.

NURSERY

The children explored our Halloween traditions,

in particular our guising customs. We learned a

wee poem “Flutter, Flutter Little Bat” which they

could use out on their travels on the night.

Nocturnal animals and keeping ourselves and our

aniumals safe in the dark were other topics

which the children have enjoyed recently, with

various arts and crafts being generated to help

decorate the nursery. This helped set the scene

for our joint nurseries Halloween Party which

was a big success. We were joined by Acharacle,

Ardgour, Kilchoan and Lochaline Nurseries for

spooky games and snack.

We visited Ardgour Nursery which everyone re-

ally enjoyed. The children are now happy to see

and join in with their neighbours. Their favourite

activities being climbing in their tree and eating

their packed lunch with the other children!

Please ensure any permission slips and other paperwork issued by the school are completed and

returned promptly. Thank you.

Hard hats and happy faces as work starts on the new primary school

As construction of our new school is now under way, the children are busy designing the

outside area of the school…. What great imaginations—we can’t wait to see the finished designs!

To help raise money for outdoor equipment, SCSB have recently launched a Crowfunder.

Visit http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/strontiancommunityschoolbuilding for more information.

A BIG THANK YOU to the

Sunart Community Council

for once again covering the

transport costs to enable

the children to benefit

from swimming lessons.

Literacy Open Afternoon Thanks to everyone who came along to the Literacy Open Afternoon on Thursday 9th November. We had great feedback from both parents and pupils. Following on from this, I hope to deliver a parents session on Phonics International as well as Emerging Literacy. In the New Year, both classes will deliver a Numeracy Open Afternoon to show parents what and how they learn during numeracy lessons.

Parent Council

The Parent Council held their AGM on Monday 2nd October.

Office bearers this session are:

Chair - Debbie Calver; Secretary - Laura Sutherland; and

Treasurer - Matt Simpkinson

All minutes of meetings can be found on the school website.

Next meeting in January.

MIDAs Training Well done to both Donald and Jamie T

who both successfully passed their MIDAs training to en-

able them to drive the High School minibus.

Big THANKS to the Common Good Fund for supporting

the Parent Council to cover the costs of this training.

A HUGE thank you to HW energy and the Parent Council for helping us buy four new giant beanbags! Annie and the P7s really enjoyed reading (and pretending to sleep) on them.
