Project Day with Amos

Project “Day with Amos” took

part at our school on 28th

March 2012. We reminded

420th jubilee of birth of

“Teacher of nations” Jan Amos Comenius in unconven-

tional way. All teachers prepared funny lesson. Children

could form their own timetable from eleven unconven-

tional workshops. It was interesting because we tried

something new than usually. I registered playing the

drums, P.E. with Mrs.director, I learned Morse code. My

favorite lesson was preparing fruit salads with

Mrs.teacher Jurčíková. I even tried one at home.

Night with Andersen

We would like to let you know about a night of fairy tales

which the children in our school experienced for the

twelfth time this year. On Friday, March 30th 2012 many

libraries and schools in the Czech Republic, and also in

Slovakia, Poland, Slovenia prepared an interesting pro-

gramme with a night reading of fairy tales.

This year was dedicated to two important personalities of

our culture Božena Němcová and Jiří Trnka. In the even-

ing we started to create the puppet from socks, because

Jiří Trnka was well-known puppet master. After dinner

pupils informed other children about a life and work of

these personalities. They had

prepared presentation, their

books and other curiosities.

Then teachers prepared a

quiz for children. We read

some fairy tales at night.

Next year you can add to

us.

Talents Discovering

School We have joined to the group of the „Talents

Discovering School”. This title was given us by the

Minister of National Education and it means that our

school discovers, promotes and develops the students who

are the laureates and finalists of the city, province and

national competitions. Our school can be found on Polish

Talents Discovering School map on the internet website

www.ore.edu.pl/odkrywamytalenty. It is worth to

mention that in Elblag, only 6 schools were given such an

award.

Visit in the

Museum On the 12th of April our

students went to the museum

to see the lesson about the

amber. The museum worker

told us about the roots of

amber, and what it can be

used for (game counters,

jewlery). Different tools are

used for grinding the amber.

The most basic ones are a

knife and a file. For sawing the amber we need a string

saw. Other tools are chisel, powered drill, lathe, drill. The

Greeks called amber „Electron”, the Romans: „Succinum,

and the Balts and Slavs called it „Jantar”. It is said that in

Pasłęk (small town near Elbląg, Poland) there is a famous

Amber Room hidden by the Gremans. If you set a fire on

the piece of amber, it will smoke for a while, then it stops

smoking, becomes black and smells badly. But the smell

is very healthy and good for your throat and lungs.

Collection of the Electro

Garbage

Primary School no 4 collected electro garbage between

March 21 and 28. All used, broken and useless electronic

devices were gathered in the front of our building. Electro

garbage thrown away to the city bins or in the bosom of

nature are dangerous to our health and our environment.

Used electic devices contain harmful substances which in

case of the ones stored improperly, reach the ground

water and therefore pollute

Turkish ABC

What connects Turkey and the Trojan Horse? Where do

the tulips come from? How the Turkish coffee should be

prepared? You could find all the answers and many other

interesting information on the exhibition about Turkey in

our school Library. 9

Searching for the Amber

Room with the mayor

One of the tasks we set ourselves in running „The School

on the Amber Track” project was a trip to Pasłęk and visit

in the Teutonic castle where the mysterious Amber

Room (a masterpiece of German artists) was looked for in

1980 . We were welcomed in the Knight Room by the

town mayor, Wiesław Śniecikowski. He is the author of

the book titled “The mysteries of the Castle in Pasłęk,”

which describes

mainly the searching

for the Amber

Room.

CHILDREN´S FESTIVAL

The 2012 Children´s Festival in Pápa organized by

“Zabhegyező Gyerekanimátorok Egyesülete“ promised to

be the best one. The 21st Festival was organized from

4th April to 8th April in Pápa, Hungary.

Some of our students took part in this festival for the

fourth time this year.

On the first day we were very excited because of the

travelling. The bus left at 8 o´clock in the morning. We

have been laughing a lot all the way because we knew we

would have perfect four days. We stopped in Párkány

and picked up one of our ex-students.

After we had arrived at Pápa, we started with an “Atlantis

Game“ in one of the primary schools. There were many

interesting programs prepared for us every day:

interactive games, funny meetings with other students,

visiting the zoo in the nearby town Veszprém, sports,

face painting, dance, magic ... well, it was fantastic.

At nights we were sleeping in sleeping bags in

a classroom of an other school. Our bus driver was a very

helpful man who helped us with the blowing up of the

mattresses. Every evening we were writing a special

diary about our whole day, what we were doing, seeing

and we had to put down our feelings as well.

On Friday, the third day we visited the zoo in Veszprém

where we could see a lot of interesting animals –

monkeys were the best ones. In the afternoon we got two

hours for shopping in a nice shopping center. We all

bought some presents for our relatives.

On Saturday the festival was open – anyone from the

town could come and take part in it, in all the activities.

There were various performances on the stage. Our two

girls were singing so beautifully that both of them got

a standing ovation. They were very happy.

On Sunday we were very sad. We had to say goodbye to

the festival, our friends and organizers.

We arrived home to Rimaszombat at about four in the

afternoon. The good company, meeting new people,

interesting programs, a lot of fun, laughing and delicious

food are the reasons why it is worth taking part in this

festival.

APRIL 11 – HUNGARIAN

POETRY DAY

The Hungarians are the

only nation who

commemorate their

national poetry on April

11 every year. In 1905

Attila József one of the

most famous poets of the

20th century was born on

this day.

Our school invites a

contemporary poet or

poets for a talk with the

students every year. This year Zoltán Szászi from

Rimaszombat and Boglárka Rácz from Fülek

commemorated the literature. They were reading from

Sándor Márai´s works.

EARTH

DAY AT

OUR

SCHOOL

On Earth Day April 22 various events are held all over

the world to increase the appreciation of the Earth's natu-

ral environment. This day is celebrated in more than 175

countries.

Our school also celebrated this day on April 23. All the

students took part in it. We have been studying till 1 pm

and we went to the school ground in the afternoon. We

took out our plants from the classrooms and corridors and

replanted them outside. After we had watered them, we

took all the pot plants back to school to their original

places. Both teachers and students were very satisfied.
