Stone Wall Cladding – Factors To Consider
Whether to use cladding is a very important
decision to make when building or renovating your
own home. The main problem is deciding which
method to use. New technologies and new materials
are improving the appearance of new houses so
there are a lot of alternative methods you can
choose from.
The look of your stone wall inside and outside of
the house is a very important focal point; it is
the one that will determine the style to apply in
that specific place. Most people don’t prefer
building a wall using whole stone because it is
not cost effective. This is where stone wall
cladding comes in as it has proven to be a cost
effective method. When it comes to choosing the
right materials, appearance is just one of the
factors to consider.
Artificial cladding
materials
Faux veneer is a special kind of cladding material
that is made from blending pure cement with other
material like colour pigments and pumice. The
mixture is then vibrated for the colour to attain
even distribution. With improved technology
artificial cladding has been able to look more and
more real.
Concrete cladding can easily chip off and requires
expensive repair procedures. When it is used as
wall cladding, the faux veneer will absorb
crystalline particles that results in a film that
is very hard to get rid of.
There are other faux veneer materials – high-
density resin and plastic reinforced glass but you
have to apply adhesives if you want to use these
lightweight exterior cladding. However, there is no
conclusive research to support whether the
adhesives can withstand very fast winds and high
temperatures. They also use silicone sealant which
in some conditions can let moisture in.
Stone cladding
This is real stone that has just been carved to
resemble thin slices (cladding). The result is
light enough to be used in any kind of application.
The stones used are split to attain a back that is
relatively flat and smooth. This makes them very
easy to apply to any wall.
Stone veneer has durability characteristics; it is
resistant to water and they are very easy to
maintain. Stone cladding materials are expensive
but they have a longer service time. Stone veneer
comes in many textures, colours, sizes and shapes
and ensures you will get the best stone wall
cladding that will best fit your needs.
Stone cladding will retain its colour and shape for
a very long time provided you take good care of it.
Before you purchase any stone cladding, you should
consider the initial price of installation,
appearance and durability.
It is not easy to choose which materials to use, but
there are factors that you should consider with this
high quality material. The finish will differ due to
factors like, pricing, quality, budget, aesthetics
and the specific use of the structure. You should
also choose a cladding material that will increase
the overall value of your house.
