WE STILL REQUIRE 50 FAMILIES TO RESPOND ENHANCING CATHOLIC SCHOOL IDENTITY (ECSI) SURVEY Just a quick reminder to please complete the on-line survey on Enhancing Catholic School Identy. We understand this is me- consuming, however, the more responses we receive, the beer the data will be to assist us to achieve a more authenc Catholic Identy within our local community. Your responses to this survey are anonymous. We inially asked that you please complete the survey by Friday 13 April to assist us in the collang of data. As we sll have a number of families who have not yet undertaken the survey we are extending the me period that the survey, is open for parents to complete, unl Friday 20 April. If you have misplaced your leer, you can collect one from the Front Office which will be open every day this week and also on Monday 16th April 8.30am- 4.30pm. If you have any quesons, please contact Peter Shearer or Paula Clark, through the school office. Thank you for your assistance. UNIFORM Thank you to the parents who connue to send their children to school in the correct school and sports uniform - your support is much appreciated. I think it is important to understand the raonale behind maintaining the consistency and quality of the uniform: - our uniform should be worn with pride - consistency allows everyone to be treated equally and fairly. Once logos and brands are introduced, it creates an uneven playing field. The majority of the parents don’t want their children dictang what they wear to school. Parents don’t want added pressure or financial strain of trying to keep up with the latest fashion, which ulmately can be expensive. Children face enough pressures today - why create more? Unfortunately people exploit loop- holes - shorts with small discreet logos may be used as an excuse for others to wear shorts with overt logos i.e. “but he/she has a logo on their shorts”. This is why we have a no logo policy. We have a number of students who aend colleges in Adelaide where there is absolutely no flexibility in the uniform worn. Why is it easier to support at High School level than Primary school? Again I’d like to thank those who support our policy and point out the raonale for doing what we do. SCHOOL FETE We are so pleased to have added to our amazing band of volunteers; again it is great to see new parents volunteering their me to get involved and assist their school. Thank you for the support you have given over the last 11 weeks. The term has flown by and there have been so many activities held and celebrated. I hope you will be able to enjoy some quality time with your children over the next couple of weeks.

URGENT! WE STILL REQUIRE 50 FAMILIES TO RESPONDENHANCING CATHOLIC SCHOOL IDENTITY (ECSI) SURVEYJust a quick reminder to please complete the on-line survey on Enhancing Catholic School Identity. We understand this is time- consuming, however, the more responses we receive, the better the data will be to assist us to achieve a more authentic Catholic Identity within our local community. Your responses to this survey are anonymous. We initially asked that you please complete the survey by Friday 13 April to assist us in the collating of data. As we still have a number of families who have not yet undertaken the survey we are extending the time period that the survey, is open for parents to complete, until Friday 20 April. Thank you for your assistance.

UNIFORMThank you to the parents who continue to send their children to school in the correct school and sports uniform - your support is much appreciated. I think it is important to understand the rationale behind maintaining the consistency and quality of the uniform:- our uniform should be worn with pride - consistency allows everyone to be treated equally and fairly. Once logos and brands are introduced, it creates an uneven playing field. The majority of the parents don’t want their children dictating what they wear to school. SCHOOL NEWSP&F AGMLast Monday the P&F held their AGM; this was a great occasion to celebrate and acknowledge the work done by our P&F committee and wider P&F body. It was a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements and acknowledge the work undertaken by the groups within the P&F - Uniform Shop, Canteen, Catering, Fete, Fundraising, Community Support. The meeting also gave us the opportunity to thank Allison Mason (Chairperson) and Sarah Rodwell (Treasurer) for their three years of dedicated service. They have done an amazing job and provided our school with so many “extras” as a result of their deeds. We also were able to welcome our new Executive Chairperson - Carly Bradley and Secretary - Sarah Fuller. We are currently looking for a Treasurer. If you are at all interested, please contact either myself or Carly Bradley. This year we are introducing Class Reps to our school. Their role will be to further improve the communication between the P&F and the school, the parent body and the class teacher. We hope this will have a positive outcome.

THANk YOU Catholic Education South Australia would like to thank all school community members who took up the invitation to support South Australian Catholic schools in the lead up to the recent State Election by writing to local political candidates and sharing relevant information on social media.“Your advocacy resulted in the Liberal Government committing to support the recent budget increases in recurrent funding to Catholic schools and also maintaining newly budgeted capital grants to Catholic schools. At the local level this will help your school to provide the best possible outcomes for your students” - Neil McGoran, Director of Catholic Education South Australia. At a local level we will continue to lobby/follow up/maintain the pressure to improve our access to bus travel.

HOT OFF THE PRESSThe theme for this year’s Community Dinner, which will be held on Saturday 16th June, will be “Bollywood”. This will complement the Indii of Clare menu. Tickets for this event will go on sale at the beginning of next term.

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTSCongratulations to Charlie Kells who took part in Sunday’s 50 km social ride - a tremendous effort.

William Hawker, James Stockman and Harry Masterman headed to Melbourne on the 31st March to the first trial to become a Ball Person at the 2019 Australian Open. Walt and James missed out but Harry was fortunate enough to get through to round two in May.

YEAR 6 STUDENTS WIN WRITING COMPETITIONMrs Lang’s Year 6 class has been busy this term writing 1000 word stories for the Friends of the Clare Railway Writing Competition. There were 160 entries throughout the district and we are proud to annouce Emily Nordhausen-Bradley won first prize and Mikalya Mason received second prize. Other students received a variety of Merits, Commendations and Distinctions. Great work Year 6s!!!

EARN & LEARNStudents were excited to help unpack equipment from the Woolworths Earn and Learn program in the library a few weeks ago. The Earn and Learn program is a nationwide initiative where Woolworths stores and participating schools use incentives in the form of stickers, to access learning resources. The equipment earned by the school in 2017 includes a digital microscope with USB connectivity, sensory processing activities, tactile development toys, a light bell ball, and sandpit toys. Many of the activities will be useful in the Junior Primary classrooms to assist with development of fine motor skills, while the microscope will be a great asset in the Science Room. The equipment has come via Modern Teaching Aids, which is Australia’s biggest supplier of educational equipment. Thank you to everyone in the community – kids, teachers, parents, grandparents, staff, neighbours, and friends for your efforts in collecting stickers to help our school earn equipment.

SCHOOL NEWS

Lauren Cross from Clare Family Dental during one of her visits to the Junior Primary classes to teach the students the importance of good oral health.

On Saturday 7th April, Thomas van Dulken took part in the World's Greatest Shave for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Blood cancer can develop in anyone, of any age, at any time and has affected families within our school community. Every day in Australia, 35 people will be given the devastating news they have leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or another blood disorder. In many cases, treatment starts within 24 hours of

diagnosis. If the person lives in rural or regional areas, the impact can be greater. They may need to relocate for months of treatment. Each year the Foundation helps more than 750 families from regional and rural Australia by providing free accommodation.

Thomas' initial goal was to raise $560 - this amount gives a regional family a home for a week, near the hospital, to reduce the financial burden of city treatment. Thanks to many generous sponsors, he has already achieved his goal and he is now aiming to raise $1000 by the end of April.

Kirsty Gwynn-Jones took 16 students for an early morning practice run before school this week in preparation for SAPSASA Cross Country competition in June.

Joffa Taylor from Toon School entertained the students with his fun show last week.

Mrs Lemon with some of the Reception students at last Friday’s walkathon.

Visitors, Community Walkathon, lots of practice for Sports day and SAPSASA, it’s been a busy time for our students at St Joseph’s.....

Phoebe Helbig, Jaz Liddy, Sarah Cremer, Molly Ross did work their work experience at our school this week, helping in all year levels and with Sports Day preparations.

THANk YOU EASTER SERVICESThe members of the Liturgy Committee would like to extend a very big thank you to all families who helped out with the services during the Easter Triduum. Students and their families helped out with altar serving and bringing forward the Holy oils at the Holy Thursday service.
