St. George’s is an amazing building and 2014 marks the300th anniversary of the birth of St. George’s Chapel whichwas founded in 1714. We will be celebrating this across theyear with special events and guided tours. On top of ourrunning programme we will have a heightened series of eventsover the Easter period where our doors will hardly be shutleading up to a dedication and official opening on St.George’s day (April 23rd) We are also working with new partners so we welcome ashow which is part of the Norfolk & Norwich Festival and we willspearhead many of the events for the The Great Yarmouth Arts Festivalin June which will see Sir Jonathon Miller on our Stage as part of 8days of solid arts activity across the town.

As well as a feast of shows on stage we are now ready to offer ourDigital Cinema screen with Arts events being beamed to us from aroundthe world so you can experience the thrill of the Globe Theatre or eventsfrom the O2 arena or the Royal Opera house all on your doorstep. With summer ahead we look forward to the sun bearing down on our outsideplaza next to the Theatre Café which will see its first season of warm weather.Last Year’s “OutThere” festival utilised the space for the first time and showed whatan excellent addition it is and with our patio open you can enjoy a cappuccino or glass of wineand relax and just take in the ambiance.

If you haven’t made it to St.George’s Theatre yet, find a space in your diary and join us and if youhaven’t already been through our doors and this brochure is in your hand we look forward toseeing you again soon.

Merry Opera’s newly commissioned Kiss me,Figaro! is a romantic comedy set backstage at theopera. The company visited St.George’s theatrein 2012 with their stunning delivery of “The MagicFlute” which had great reviews and won themmany fans. The Acoustics of St.George’s make itthe perfect venue for this scale of opera.

The show draws on a wide range of operaticfavourites, together with some more unusualrepertoire and 20th century jazz standards withnew translations and bespoke arrangements. Thecommission aims to play to the strengths of achamber opera company such as Merry Operaworking with early career singers and allowingaudiences to enjoy familiar arias whilst exploringnew ideas. Victoria unknowingly discovered that her dog,Major Tom had prize winning potential at acharity dog show. She seized the opportunity toaccess the subculture of this exclusivemember’s only club. Major Tom’s first show wasa disaster, and feeling an overpowering senseof guilt about her dog being scrutinised, Victoriadecided to put herself through the sameprocess by becoming a beauty queen. This onewoman, one dog show follows their story,reflecting on the British fascination withcelebrities, beauty, and winning.
