SurgicalFor applications that require a high number of sterilization cycles by Autoclave, Steris® and Sterrad®, we design and manufacture Silicone overmolded and jacketed cable assemblies using Liquid Injection Molding (LIM). This unique low-pressure molding capability enables us to create a high-level ingress protection bond between cable, connector and flex relief for long lasting surgical equipment life.

Molex also designs and manufactures high volume disposable surgical cable assemblies. By combining uniquely designed single-use connectors with cost effective cable constructions we manufacture low-cost disposable surgical cables for our OEM partners.

SOLUTION MediSpec™ Silicone Cable Assemblies match the dexterity of a surgeon’s movements while offering dependability and long service life. Using liquid injection molding of silicone and unique epoxy resins, Molex achieves a high-level of moisture-ingress protection between cable, connector and flex relief to ensure cable assemblies withstand the specified number of sterilization cycles required by the application.

CHALLENGE Sourcing reliable surgical cables that keep pace with technological advancements is a challenge for OEM medical-device manufacturers.

Patient MonitoringMolex manufactures Invasive Blood Pressure (IBP), Electrocardiography (ECG), SpO2 and other vital sign monitoring cables for leading medical device manufacturers.

• IBP single channel cables

• IBP multi-channel bifurcated (two-channel) and trifurcated (three-channel) cables, to simplify patient connections and reduce clutter

• Monitor-end connectors may feature unique keying and color-coding to facilitate connection and reduce errors

• Reusable SpO2 extension cable assemblies are designed and manufactured to customer specifications

• ECG cable assemblies with 2 to 12 leads that are AHA and IEC compliant. Configurations include:

- Shielded and unshielded options

- Snap, pinch or banana plug patient connections

- Permanently attached or Removable leads in both DIN and AAMI styles

- Custom branding, labeling and color coding

EEPROMS, resistors, RFID tags, coils and other electromechanical components are frequently incorporated into patient monitoring cable assemblies.

Rugged Ambulatory Monitoring Cable

INTEGRATED SOLUTIONS FOR ADVANCED MONITORING APPLICATIONS

SOLUTION With more than 30 years’ experience designing and manufacturing patient monitoring cables, our engineering team understands the needs of clinicians and patients. Our cable design expertise, proven manufacturing processes and knowledge of materials enable us to manufacture durable, long-lasting, high-performing cable assemblies.

CHALLENGE Creating long-lasting, rugged cable assemblies that reliably transmit ECG signals is critical for the proper diagnosis of potential heart problems.

Patient Worn ElectronicsDiagnosis is no longer restricted to hospital or clinical settings. For ambulatory monitoring, Molex produces highly-rugged and flexible leads for ECG, Holter and event monitoring which align with industry trends towards smaller, lighter and integrated solutions for telehealth applications. Being the link between the patient and the monitoring device, patient worn electronics must be extremely durable and manufactured using the highest quality materials and components to avoid any single point of failure.

We employ a two-step process, which starts with a conformal coating, epoxy or pre-mold to protect the electrical components within the device, followed by an overmold or clamshell encapsulation.

SOLUTION Molex worked closely with Sotera Wireless, through engineering and production, to develop a process that was specific and unique to their needs. Molex’s knowledge of electronics encapsulation and bio-compatible materials led the team to create the first long-lasting, ultra-durable patient-worn monitor that operates wirelessly throughout hospital or clinical networks.

CHALLENGE Sotera Wireless is revolutionizing vital signs monitoring with ViSi® Mobile, a comprehensive vital signs monitoring system. This system is designed to enhance patient safety by allowing early detection of deterioration and connecting clinicians with their patients anywhere, any time.

ElectrophysiologyAs a leading supplier of custom Electrophysiology (EP) cables, Molex manufactures to customer specifications. Cables may feature DIN 42802-2 safety contacts for connection to the interface panel and customer specified catheter connection on the opposite end. In addition to cables connecting catheters to the interface panel, we design and manufacture adapter cables and cables to connect system components.

SOLUTION Understanding the requirements of both device makers and physicians, we design and manufacture highly flexible, low torque reusable and disposable cable assemblies using very fine gauge stranded conductors to meet the rigorous demands of EP applications.

CHALLENGE Electophysiologists require cables that allow catheters to be easily maneuvered into and around the heart.

Emergency Medical ServicesDuring a typical emergency situation, first-responders are often dispatched with the critical mission of saving a life. Cables used with monitors and defibrillators during pre-hospital care must be rugged and able to withstand harsh environmental conditions, vibration from moving vehicles or aircraft, and unusually rough handling. Designing and manufacturing reliable and very durable cable assemblies is one of the core competencies of Molex.

Specifically for EMS applications, we provide cable assemblies for Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) and Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) assist devices. These devices have a variety of requirements that Molex is prepared to support, including reusable assemblies requiring high flex cycles to disposable sub-assemblies that demand cost-effective configurations.

SOLUTION Molex becomes part of the device makers’ team from design concept through production. Understanding the rigorous environment of emergency care, we employ manufacturing processes and select unique materials, such as rugged cable jackets and locking connector mechanisms, that meet both performance requirements and cost targets.

CHALLENGE Stringent performance driven by harsh environments such as high vibration and rough equipment handling is a welcomed challenge at Molex.
