Standards-Based Achievement Reporting

2010-2011The mission of Polk County Public Schools is to ensure rigorous,

What are the main differences between the SBAR and a traditional report card?

• Progress will no longer be reported with: A, B, C, D, and U; or S/N

• Instead of subjects being graded – achievement of standards will be measured.

• Progress will reported 4 times a year based on the mastery of the entire standard.

• It will be a longer, more detailed report.• If a skill or benchmark has been taught and your

child still needs to learn it, that information will be noted on the report.

Page 3: Standards-Based Achievement Reporting 2010-2011 The mission of Polk County Public Schools is to ensure rigorous, relevant learning experiences that result

• Achievement at the time of the report

• Progress toward grade level proficiency

• Year-end grade level proficiency

Where is my child on the 180 day journey?

The Standards-Based Achievement Report provides

three kinds of information

Page 4: Standards-Based Achievement Reporting 2010-2011 The mission of Polk County Public Schools is to ensure rigorous, relevant learning experiences that result

Achievement at the Time of the Report

• Tells you which benchmarks your child has been taught.

• Tells you which benchmarks your child has learned.

BENCHMARKS (Specific Skills under each standard)

Benchmarks are specific skills and are lettered: a, b, c, d, e, f, g

= Not taught this grading period

= Student did not master what was taught this grading period

x = Student mastered what was taught this grading period

+ = Working beyond expectations for this grading period

Page 5: Standards-Based Achievement Reporting 2010-2011 The mission of Polk County Public Schools is to ensure rigorous, relevant learning experiences that result

Progress toward Grade Level Proficiency

IS MY CHILD’S PROGRESS ON TRACK?

YES = Progress is satisfactory for this point in the school year

NO = Progress is NOT satisfactory for this point in the school year

Tells you whether your student’s progress is “on track” to master this grade level’s standards. (not reported for 1st quarter)

Page 6: Standards-Based Achievement Reporting 2010-2011 The mission of Polk County Public Schools is to ensure rigorous, relevant learning experiences that result

Year End Grade Level Proficiency

4 = Exceeds the standard (beyond end of year level expectations)

3 = Student work that demonstrates mastery of the entire standard (at end of year level) without teacher assistance.

2 = Student work that is progressing towards mastery of the standard.

1 = Student work demonstrates limited skills related to the standard.

Note: 4 does not equal an “A,” 3 ≠ “B”…

What is a standard? It is the big concept being taught (like

Reading Comprehension or Algebra).

What are benchmarks? They are the specific skills under that standard/topic (like Makes Predictions or Identifies Patterns) .

Page 12: Standards-Based Achievement Reporting 2010-2011 The mission of Polk County Public Schools is to ensure rigorous, relevant learning experiences that result

Which skills are being taught

each 9 weeks?

/ , x, +

• Not every skill/benchmark is taught/ assessed every 9 weeks (teachers follow an instruction and assessment timeline).

• /, x, and + are based on what was learned each 9 week grading period.

How will I know if my child

is learning enough to be promoted?

“difficulty meeting...” box

• Not reported on the 1st grading period.

So what does a nice job academically

look like for your student?

Focus on x and +

Page 19: Standards-Based Achievement Reporting 2010-2011 The mission of Polk County Public Schools is to ensure rigorous, relevant learning experiences that result

When you get your child’s SBAR,

do this together:

Color all “+” blue, and color all “x” green,

Color all “/ ” yellow.

Blue and green = a nice job,

Yellow = a concern.
