From the Rector Very Rev. Raymond Collins, C.Ss.R. Staffed by The Redemptorists We are now a little more than halfway through our 40 day Lenten journey of faith. One of my former professors has written recent- ly: “The cross is the only social security. We find that we are will- ing to commit ourselves to a cause, but only if we can be certain about our security. We will accept positions but only if we can be reasonably assured about our well-being. We will serve the Church provided that we can be guaranteed a comfortable future. In such instances, we prefer security to commitment and assurance to pledges. We find it exceedingly difficult to accept Jesus’ teaching that the cross is the only social security.” (John F. Craghan, Lectionary for Mass-February 2015, Liturgical Press) As believers walking through this holy season of Lent, we are called week after week to see the cross of Jesus as a ‘normal’ part of our lives. We are called to see the Good News of Jesus’ resurrection as a ‘normal’ part of our lives. Yes, there is certainly mys- tery here, but if allow ourselves through prayer and sacrifice to make Jesus’ death and resurrection a real part of our lives, we will be deepening our life of faith and come to understand where our true security and salvation lie. We are now a little more than halfway through our 40 day Lenten journey of faith. One of my former professors has written recent-ly: “The cross is the only social security. We find that we are will-ing to commit ourselves to a cause, but only if we can be certain about our security. We will accept positions but only if we can be reasonably assured about our well-being. We will serve the

Church provided that we can be guaranteed a comfortable future. In such instances, we prefer security to commitment and assurance to pledges. We find it exceedingly difficult to accept Jesus’ teaching that the cross is the only social security.” (John F. Craghan, Lectionary for Mass-February 2015, Liturgical Press)

As believers walking through this holy season of Lent, we are called week after week to see the cross of Jesus as a ‘normal’ part of our lives. We are called to see the Good News of Jesus’ resurrection as a ‘normal’ part of our lives. Yes, there is certainly mys-tery here, but if allow ourselves through prayer and sacrifice to make Jesus’ death and resurrection a real part of our lives, we will be deepening our life of faith and come to understand where our true security and salvation lie.

Let these remaining weeks of Lent be a blessing for us! Let these remaining weeks of Lent keep us in the embrace of our Risen Lord!

MASS INTENTIONS

(John F. Craghan, Lection-ary for Mass-febrero 2015, Liturgical Press)
