Six Sunday of Easter (Year A) - John 14:15-21

J esus said to his disciples: ‘If you love me you will keep my commandments. I shall ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you for ever, that spirit of truth whom the world can never receive since it neither sees or knows him; but you know him, because he is with you, he is in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come back to you. In a short time the world will no longer see me; but you will see me, because I live and you will live. On that day you will understand that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you. Anybody who receives my commandments and keeps them will be one who loves me; and anybody who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and show myself to him.’

1. Spend some time quietly and reading and rereading the passage, noting the words/phrases that draw your attention.

2. Take time to be with the disciples. Hearing Jesus’ promise to remain with you – whatever the struggles, Jesus is with you.

3. Notice your thoughts, feelings… 4. Allow the truth of this to take route more deeply – respond to Jesus 5. What might your Gospel ‘motto’ for the coming week be.

THY KINGDOM COME Thy Kingdom Come invites Christians around the world to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ. What started out as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in 2016 to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer. In his role as Joint President of the Council of Churches for England, Car-dinal Vincent says: ‘To have a week of prayer for Christian mission is just a wonderful thing. Please do join in before Pentecost this drive to pray together for the gift of God’s spirit for our mission. We know how rich Pentecost is in the life of the Church from its very beginning. That richness can be ours too, if we ask God for it. Individuals, families and parishes are invited to Pledge to Pray. This is done by logging on to the Thy Kingdom Come website, and each pledge lights up a dot on worldwide map. Please do consider making a pledge to pray for evangelisation during this period. Also available today is a leaflet with prayers and intentions for each day of the novena.

THE PRAYER FOR THY KINGDOM COME PLEASE PRAY THIS PRAYER EACH DAY FROM THIS THURSDAY TILL PENTECOST Almighty God, your ascended Son has sent us into the world to preach the good news of your kingdom: inspire us with your Spirit and fill our hearts with the fire of your love, that all who hear your word may be drawn to you, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

For Conversation: The ways in which your parish community renews its ways of

keeping Christ’s commandments.
