Merry Christmas & Happy New Years

from the St. Patrick’s Parish Staff!

Dear St. Patrick’s Parishioners,

Lady Family Mortuary is proud to announce that we have a Spanish speaking director, Ms. Margarita Ayala, who is available to assist the Spanish speaking community so they don’t have to leave their own neighborhood to make arrangements at a difficult time. We specialize in affordable Catholic funerals, pre-planning, and international shipping. Feel free to call or drop by the office, which is next door to the church during business hours.

God bless!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

A sincere ‘thank you’ goes out to those who contributed to this year’s Giving Tree. Because of your generosity, we were able to provide gifts for approximately 400 families in our community this Christmas season. In addition, THANK YOU to all my dedicated volunteers. The time and energy you devoted to this important cause was invaluable to me, I can’t thank you enough. A special thank you to the teachers and students at St. Patrick’s School for decorating the ornaments, we really appreciate your help.

God bless you and Merry Christmas!

Sincerely, Kelly

FUNERAL PLANNING

Do you have to plan a funeral for a loved one? Losing a family member or a friend to death is very hard, even though as Catholic Christians we believe that Jesus has prepared a place for us in heaven. Besides the grief of missing the

deceased, we are often faced with the anxiety of having to arrange for a service. If you are asked to help plan the funeral Mass, you can find a document with explanations of the rites and suggestions for appropriate readings and music on our website:

www.stpatsag.org/data/uploads/ funeral-booklet.pdf

If you do not have internet access, please pick a copy up in the parish office.

Please submit this completed registration form to the Parish Office. We will enter your family in our Parish Register. Llene su solicitud de registro y entréguela a la Oficina Parroquial. Nosotros pondremos la información en los Archivos Parroquiales.

TRUST IN GOD On this final Sunday of Advent our scriptures focus on the historical birth of Jesus, who is son of David and Son of God, child and king, Jesus and Emmanuel. Isaiah the prophet begs Ahaz to ask for a sign, to allow God to offer him reassurance of the sur-vival of the Davidic dynasty. The king hypocritically refuses to “tempt the LORD” in that way (Isaiah 7:12), but the prophet fore-tells the birth of a son, an heir to the throne, who will prove the Lord’s enduring protection of God’s chosen lineage on the throne of David. The child will be called Emmanuel. Matthew’s reference to this history in his description of the birth of Jesus highlights the contrast between the faithless refusal of trust shown by Ahaz, and the complete trust in God shown by Mary and Joseph in bringing about the birth of Jesus Christ.

Knights of Columbus Council 1375

Consecration to the Holy Family

In an effort to strengthen families and revitalize our parish, Knights of Columbus Council 1375 invites all families in their parish to consecrate themselves to the Holy Family and to devote themselves to the ideal model of familial love set by Jesus, Mary and Joseph. As part of this consecration, the mass celebrants will be reciting the Consecration to the Holy Family prayer at all Masses on December 28 – 29, 2019.

Prayer cards will be distributed before each Mass, and the prayer recited following communion. You are invited to attend the consecration and participate in the reading of the prayer.

We would like to extend our biggest ‘thank you’ to all those who participated in any way with the Simbang Gabi celebration. To the celebrants that celebrated the Masses, the choir and tech people who enhanced each Mass with their talents, the sponsors for each Mass along with those who shared their delicious

foods and especially all of the parishioners who attended all of those early mornings Masses!

We couldn’t have done it with out you.

CHRISTMAS

A young mother, her eyes shining with fatigue, who is arranging her hair; a father who finds himself alone with his pretty wife and baby, straightening the stable to make himself useful in some way; shepherds who bring cheese and perhaps also some curdled milk; sheep who look at their shepherds while bleating; a donkey who is eyeing his manger changed into a cradle; an adorable swaddled baby whom one calls Savior, Christ and Lord: This is the manifestation of the goodness and the tenderness of God. This is the most fantastic birth in the history of humanity, the one which changed the face of the world! This is how far God humbled and compromised himself with us! This is Emmanuel!

St. Patrick’s Outreach 2019 Christmas Basket Project To All St. Patrick’s Parishioners

THANK YOU! - THANK YOU! - THANK YOU!

Thanks to YOU, the Christmas Basket Project was able to share the generosity of our community with 380 less fortunate families this Christmas season. Your response to the requests for donations this year were so heartwarming and generous. The Thanksgiving and Sunday food donations, school and neighborhood food drives, monetary contributions, donations from local grocery stores and vegetables from our farmers plus hams and turkeys filled the baskets to overflowing. This year we were even able to add a box of candy canes and a Christmas Card to each box. In addition, your contributions of toys to the Giving Tree made for a spectacular day of giving! What a rewarding experience. To see the joy and gratitude on the faces of each and every recipient gave us a deep sense of Christ’s love and peace. What a special way for us to experience “The Joy of Sharing.” Our appreciation extends to the many parishioners, community members and behind the scene workers for their tireless efforts and generosity. It would be impossible to list all the people who have played a part in this effort. Many hours of work went into planning, making pickup arrangements, sorting, wrapping and set up for this event. We had many people eager to volunteer their time and their talents. We sincerely want to thank each and every one of you for your kindness and generosity.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL! 2019 Christmas Basket Committee

Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord (Christmas) December 25, 2019

Amidst the beautiful Christmas readings at today’s Masses is a reading from a small New Testament letter from Saint Paul to his protégé, Titus, read at Midnight Mass. Saint Paul reminds Titus that God has given us a gift in the person of Jesus Christ. This gift represents God’s active presence in our lives and in our world. This gift redeems us from evil and death. This gift purifies us as God’s people. This is a gift that also comes with an expectation: that we receive it with thanksgiving, allow it to transform us into Christ’s image; and from it, learn how to live a life “eager to do what is good.” Take time the next few days to reflect on the marvelous gift we celebrate at Christmas, and how we might become better stewards of this gift.
