STEWARDSHIP: During this time, we celebrate the independence of our country. We would do well to echo the psalmist, saying, “Our eyes are fixed on the Lord, pleading for His mercy.” May we always recognize and use wisely the gifts of freedom and abundance He has showered upon us. ======================================

Jesus is met with misgivings and rejection by his own relations. Like them, we often resist the prophetic word because of an obstinacy of heart,

rooted in a self-pride which must give way to weakness and powerlessness.

July 5, 2015 Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Pope is coming! The Pope is coming! Not a day goes by that we don’t hear some-thing about the upcoming World Meeting of Families and the arrival of Pope Francis to the City of Brother-ly Love. It is exciting for the City and the Catholic Church. But with all of the planning, we cannot overlook the focus of the event. Families are gather-ing from around the world to celebrate who they are and to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, the Son of God and Prince of Peace and bask in God’s Divine Mercy. In today’s Responsorial Psalm, we hear “Our eyes are fixed on the Lord, pleading for his mercy. “ It is this mercy that allows us to make mistakes and seek solace in our Lord. It is this mercy that we seek when we sin. When we focus on the love and com-passion of God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit, it is easy to seek God’s mercy. In the Gospel Acclamation, we hear “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor.” It is the Holy Spirit, the third person in the Holy Trinity, that gives us the power to be authentic disciples of Jesus Christ. It is the Holy Spirit that allows us to take the teachings of Jesus Christ and put them into practice by

reaching out to those in need; to undo the knots of our own lives and the lives of oth-ers. We only have to look at the Mother of God for assistance in living a Christian life.

Baptism/Bautismos Call the Rectory to make arrangements. Parents and sponsors must attend an instruction class. Llame la rectoría para hacer arreglos. Padres y padrinos deben asistir clases de instrucción.

Marriage/Matrimonio Arrangements must be made six months in advance in order to fulfill Diocesan requirements.

Care for the Sick/Cuido para los enfermos In the occasion of an emergency call the rectory im-mediately. Call the rectory for visits at home to the elderly and infirm or when someone enters the hospi-tal and wishes a visit from the parish priest.

July 5, 2015 Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Mary, Undoer of Knots, has drawn global adoration and devo-tion, especially in the time of Pope Francis’s election. The Mother of God miraculously conceived Jesus after being visited by the angel Ga-briel who told her she would have a child. As the Mother of God, Mary is loved and honored more than any other Saint, known as the ulti-mate mother and leader of family. Mary Undoer of Knots is revered for her love and devotion to her son Jesus. She is known for her ability to “undo” the knots, the challenges, in our lives. Her love and compassion for us as the children of God shows us just how much she is the mother of the Holy Family and our Mother. The Novena to Mary, Undoer of Knots was inspired by this Icon in which the Blessed Virgin Mary is shown undoing knots. The icon and the de-votion can be sourced to the writing of Saint Iranae-us of Lyons, “The knot of Eve’s disobedience was loosened by the obedience of Mary.”

The family which experiences the joy of faith communicates it naturally. That family is the salt of the earth and the light of the world;

it is the leaven of society. Pope Francis, October 27, 2013

Gracias, Madre querida. María, Desatadora de nudos, ruega por mí. Amén. Prayer Dearest Holy Mother, Most Holy Mary, You undo the knots that suffocate your children, extend Your merciful hands to me. I entrust to You today this knot and all the negative consequences that it provokes in my life. I give You this knot that torments me and makes me unhappy and so impedes me from uniting myself to You and Your Son Jesus, my Savior. I run to You, Mary, Undoer of Knots because I trust You and I know that You never despise a sinning child who comes to ask you for help. I believe that You can undo this knot because Jesus grants You everything. I believe that You want to undo this knot because you are my Mother. I believe that You will do this because you love me with eternal love. Thank you, Dear Mother. Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for me. Amen.
