Abram's faith is sealed with a covenant initiated by God, our light and our salvation. The transfiguration of Jesus prefigures the transformation in glory

to which we are called by our sharing in the paschal mystery—the dying and rising of Jesus.

A REMINDER—

DID YOU PICK UP YOUR RICE BOWL AND ARE YOU MAKING USE OF IT?

The Rice Bowls are located in the back of the church. They need to be put together but this is not difficult to do. Also pick up one of the flyers that go with the Rice Bowl. You will find it interesting and informative . There are true personal accounts from Colombia, Laos, Rwanda, Honduras, Madagascar and the United States relating how your donations do help in a number of different ways. There are also some recipes for those who want to try their hand on making simple, nutritious, meals from these countries. And last, there is a day by day calendar for the season of Lent to act as a guide for your Lenten Journey.

LENTEN PRAYER

God of all creation, We welcome you into our lives in a new way this Lent.

We are ready to serve your people, especially our brothers and sisters who are most in need.

We are ready to live out your call to mercy. Through our prayer, fasting and Lenten gifts, may we

learn to walk as one global human family. May we learn to listen to each other, and in so doing hear

Domingo Escritura Reflexions

Sunday Scripture Reflections

Reading 1 Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18

Many of us have had the difficult experience of hav-ing to pack up and move on, leaving our homes and friends behind. We can imagine how Abram, later known as Abra-ham, might have felt when God called him to journey to a new and unfamiliar land.

Despite his doubts and questions, Abram "put his faith in the Lord." He gave up everything, including his pagan gods, and accepted God's promise of countless descendants. The covenant between God and Abraham was sealed in a special ceremony of sacrifice. The smoke and flame in that ceremony represent the presence of God moving between the broken animal halves. This is a sign that neither Abram, who stays with the sacrificial animals, nor God, whose pres-ence is signaled, will break the covenant.

Reading 2 Philippians 3:17--4:1 or 3:20--4:1

Today's second reading reminds us that as Christians sharing in God's life we are already citizens of heaven. Neither our earthly homes nor our physical bodies are lasting.

But one day our bodies will be transformed and be-come like the glorified body of the risen Jesus. This is the great and final hope of every Christian.

Gospel Luke 9:28b-36

Wouldn't it be wonderful to see your best friend trans-formed, or turned into his or her glorified self, right before your eyes?

That's the kind of experience Peter, James, and John have in today's gospel. While they are up on a mountain with Jesus, they have a splendid vision of him in his glorified body. They see him talking with Moses and Elijah, two long-dead figures from the Old Testament. Moses represents the Law, while Elijah represents the prophets.

In Jesus, both find the fulfillment of God's plan of sal-vation.

Excerpts from Pope Francis’ Bull of Indiction of the

Jubilee of Mercy

A program for the Year of Mercy—continued

14. Saint Faustina Kowalska - Our prayer also extends to the saints and blessed ones who made divine mercy their mission in life. I am espe-cially thinking of the great apostle of mercy, Saint Faustina Kowalska. May she, who was called to enter the depths of divine mercy, intercede for us and obtain for us the grace of living and walking always according to the mercy of God and with an unwavering trust in his love. Conclusion I present, therefore, this Extraordinary Jubilee Year dedicated to living out in our daily lives the mercy which the Father constantly expends to all of us. In this Jubilee Year, let us allow God to surprise us. He never tires of throwing open the door of his heart and repeats that he loves us and wants to share his love with us. The Church feels the urgent need to proclaim God’s mercy. Her life is authentic and creditable only when she becomes a convincing herald of mercy. She knows that her primary task, especially at a moment full of great hopes and signs of contradiction , is to introduce everyone to the great mystery of God’s mercy by contemplating the face of Christ. The Church is called above all to be a credible witness to mercy, professing it and living it as the core of the revelation of Jesus Christ. From the heart of the Trinity, from the depths of the mystery of God, the great river of mercy wells up and over-flows unceasingly. It is a spring that will never run dry, no matter how many people approach it. Every time someone is in need, he or she can approach it, because the mercy of God never ends. The profundity of the mystery surrounding it is as inexhaustible as the richness which springs up from it. In this Jubilee Year, may the Church echo the word of God that resounds strong and clear as a message and a sign of pardon, strength, aid , and love. May she never tire of extending mercy, and be ever patient in offering compassion and comfort. May the Church become the voice of every man and woman, and repeat confidently without end: “Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.” Given in Rome, at Saint Peter’s on 11 April, the Vigil of the Second Sunday of Easter, or Sunday of Divine Mercy, in the year of our Lord 2015, the third of my Pontificate.
