Why is this area called the Ag Coast of America?
➢ 15 barge transfer facilities within a 15-mile section of the Mississippi handling agricultural and fertilizer products
➢ Capacity: Over 150 barges in a day. Is the highest level of barge handling capacity ANYWHERE along the Mississippi River.
➢ #1 Ranking in Site Selection magazine’s 2017 Big Muddy Cup Competition when comparing Top Metros by total projects.
➢ Result of growing demand for agricultural exports, as well as cost-effective and efficient transfer facilities

The STL region plays an important role during supply chain disruptions.
We have the capacity and reliability to support national and global supply
chain disruptions.
• Severe weather
• Fluctuations in energy and transportation costs
• Shifts in global government regulations or trade
• Global pandemics
This is the answer to maintaining global competitiveness for the nation’s
supply chain. What are we doing to continue to support these efforts?

*LQ = Location Quotient: Location quotients are ratios that allow an area's distribution of employment by industry, ownership, and size class to be compared to a reference area's distribution. The U.S. is used as the reference area for all LQs. If an LQ is equal to 1, then the industry has the same share of its area employment as it does in the nation. An LQ greater than 1 indicates an industry with a greater share of the local area employment than is the case nationwide.
