The Port handles both break bulk and containerized fresh produce. 256,000 SF of on-dock refrigerated warehousing and truck loading docks. The Port has ample reefer plug capacity on and off port. On port, there are 299 reefer plugs, while off port, distribution facilities can supply upwards of 500+ reefer plugs within a 10-mile radius of the Port terminals. Off-site 1,000,000 + SF temperature controlled facilities. These distribution facilities provide additional cold storage, transloading, repacking and fumigation services. Free X-rays by CBP and all cargo scanned for radiation signatures at no cost (at gate). This latest Control Technology has been successfully tested along California’s Central Coast and Florida’s East Coast. In California, the USDA & APHIS have certified the system and unit. After passing all of the required testing, operating permits were granted and issued by the California Air Resource Board. Agricultural Heritage • The Port of Hueneme was a founding member of the Pacific Agribusiness Alliance, the California central coast region’s premier agricultural trade organization.

• In 1978, Del Monte began a weekly import of bananas and tropical fruit cargo, and remains today as The Port’s longest term customer.

• In 1995, the Del Monte U.S. Western Distribution Center opened, one of the most modern on-dock refrigerated facilities in NAFTA, and the second on-dock reefer facility to be constructed by The Port. A 53,000 SF expansion was completed in 2005, now totaling 83,000 SF of refrigerated space.
