As we set out once again on a new year of learning and discovery, I invite you to share in the challenge of all that lies ahead. We all know that children receive the best educaon when parents and staff work as a team. Parent enthusiasm, support and involvement is integral to the success of our school as are the skills, dedicaon and professionalism of teachers. Together, staff and parents can provide educaonal excellence for every student, so that they can achieve their personal best. Together, we can support one another to provide a friendly learning environment and celebrate our achievements. I hope that throughout the year, our school will be a place where staff, students and families have opportunies to experience God’s presence in our lives. Although he lived about two and a half thousand years ago, the prophet, Jeremiah, has words that are sll relevant for us at the beginning of this new school year: The Lord says, I know the plans I have for you…… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. – Jeremiah 29:11 Within our school, we can all try to model God’s love for each one of us, by being a renewing community where all members are valued, affirmed and empowered; where our commitment to Gospel values is expressed in every facet of our school’s endeavours. For this senment to connue throughout the year, it will require our collecve wisdom and generosity of spirit to be at the forefront of all our communicaons. Educaon today is a complex engagement because of the intensity and variety of external influences parcularly through various forms of media and electronic communicaons. Our school has a special role in assisng every parent with the educaon of their children, so that all children will develop a sense of personal responsibility and learn the correct use of freedom. Throughout the year, our school will also provide experiences of liturgy and prayer as invitaons to know and experience the enormous love and special friendship of God. May the school year ahead, see staff and parents in genuine partnership in our collecve role of secular and faith educaon. Thought for the Week

The world is a great mirror. It reflects back to you what you are. If you are loving, if you are friendly, if you are helpful to you. The world is what you are.

Emergency ManagementTo ensure that students, staff and visitors remain familiar with required emergency response procedures (such evacuation and lockdown), families are asked to note the school will peri-odically undertake emergency management drills. An evacuation drill will be undertaken in the coming weeks. These drills are simply to ensure that everyone is clear of the steps to take and the manner in which these are to occur. All schools undertake such drills. Our aim here at St Joseph’s is to at all times prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all within our school community, and most particularly, our students

Like Us On Facebook

Towards the end of 2018, CareMonkey was rolled out across the school

as a means of simplifying the process of responding to excursion, incursion,

camps and various other consent forms by using your mobile phone,

tablet or PC.

Not only does this reduce the amount of paperwork to be filled

in by parents, but also ensures a more effective means of communicating,

collecting and follow-up of information.

In 2019, CareMonkey will become a vital communication link for families

and no longer will the school be sending home hard copies

of information.

Whilst it has been terrific to note the uptake by the majority of families,

there are still a handful who have yet to create and share profiles.

Should any family be experiencing difficulty in setting up their

CareMonkey or are not quite sure of how to go about it, please do not hesitate to come and speak with

Judy or Megan at the office who will be only too happy to support

and assist with this.

A Prayer for the New School Year

God of wisdom and might, we praise you for the wonder of our

being, for mind, body and spirit.

Be with our children as they begin a new school year.

Bless them and their teachers and staff. Give them strength and grace

as their bodies grow; wisdom and knowledge to their minds as they

search for understanding; and peace and zeal to their hearts.

We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Specialist Classes 2019

Senior News - 3/4The students in 3/4 have made a fantastic start to the year. We have been learning about the different skills that we need to work collaboratively. The whole learning neighbourhood has been working together to create one piece of artwork. Each child painted and decorated a feather. These were put together to create a huge pair of wings, to remind us all that together we can fly.

I loved doing art on the first day! - Max Plenkovich I like that we all have special jobs in our class. - Isla Spradbury I love playing ‘silent pig’ during our brain breaks - Eddie Coyne My favourite thing so far has been making feathers - Lulu Curtis My favourite lesson was learning about length in maths - Rubi-Jean Hallam

Susan Holmberg - Teacher 3/4

Junior News - 1/2It has been a wonderful start to school in the 1/2 area with students becoming accustomed to new teachers and routines.

Students have enjoyed practising their counting skills in maths and writing recounts of their holidays.

1/2F have been lucky enough to practice coding Beebots!

Sarah Keating - Teacher 1/2
