February might be the shortest month of the year, but it certainly isn’t a month of rest. Students are busy preparing for the OAA tests that take place in April. These tests are very important and allow us to see how our students compare to other

students in the county as well as the state. Last year our district was top in the county. We would like to continue to be top not only in the county, but the state as well! This semester we started the Trojan Buck program. Once a week the students get an OAA practice question. If they answer it correctly they earn a Trojan Buck. They can also earn Trojan Bucks by doing something great here at SCMS. After the OAAs we will hold an auction for prizes that they can bid on with their Trojan Bucks. There are some really nice prizes that are on display in the showcase. Stop in to check them out and encourage your student to go above and beyond in their studies at school.

Reminders and Announcements: 2/2 - 7th Grade Boys BB Tournament held at Plymouth. First game will be at 10:30 against St. Paul. 2/2 – 8th Grade Boys BB Tournament will be held at South Central. First game will be at 9:00 against Mapleton at the High School. 2/3 – 5th and 6th grade Girl’s BB Game home v. Seneca East. Start time 2:oo. 2/3 – 5th and 6th grade Boy’s BB Game at New London. Start time 1:00. 2/11 – School Board Meeting in High School Library at 7:00. 2/15 - No school for students; PD day for teachers. 2/18 – No School in observance of President’s Day. 2/21 - 5th and 6th grade Academic Challenge match at Monroeville. Start time 9:30. 2/26 – 7th and 8th grade Academic Challenge match at Home vs. Monroeville. 2/27 – Early Release at 1:30.

6th Grade Completes Cross-Curricular Unit

The 6th Grade students have been working hard for two weeks completing an assignment on Egyptian Pharaoh's. They were required to research a Pharaoh in a group and try to convince people that their Pharaoh was the Ultimate Pharaoh of all time in Egypt. This unit combined Social Studies, Computer, and Language Arts so the students had a cross-curricular experience. The students used computer skills to create posters, brochures and imovies promoting their Pharaoh's. The students will be voting today to decide who is the Ultimate Pharaoh of Egypt!!!!
