GIVE THANKS WITH A GRATEFUL HEART

THANKSGIVING PRAYER SERVICE- There will be an interfaith Thanksgiving prayer service on Wednesday, November 21 at the Reformed Church in New Paltz. It will be in their Education Building and will begin at 7:00 P.M., followed by a reception there with some light refreshments. CHRISTMAS “PRESENCE” IS HERE!-Hundreds of

children and adults have signed up for Christmas Presence, St. Joseph’s holiday giving program. Now it’s time to do our part. Look for the tag-covered Christmas trees at the church entrance. Select a tag for the type of gift you’d like to contribute. There are 4 ways to participate: · Purchase gifts from a child’s wish list. · Purchase gifts requested by senior citizens

at New Paltz Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. · Purchase gifts for parents at local domestic violence and homeless shelters. · Purchase gift cards. More information about each giving method can be found on the gift tags or the flyers at the church entrances. Bring your gift(s) back to St. Joseph’s by Sunday, December 2. That’s only 3 weeks away so please mark your calendar!! For more information, contact Barbara Petruzzelli at 255-6967 or [email protected].

THANKSGIVING DINNER- St. Augustine Church in Highland will be sponsoring a Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, November 22 from 12:30-3:00 P.M. For more information and/or possible help with transportation, please call 845-453-6373 or email [email protected] Our parish will also help with this great work by

delivering some meals to people in New Paltz who are homebound. If you would like to have one of these meals delivered to yourself, please contact our parish office at 845-255-5635, ext. 100 or [email protected] AN EVENING WITH THE POTTER- On Friday, November 30 please join us for a special evening of faith and fun and creativity. This is an intergenerational event and so people of all ages are invited. This event will be in our church hall and will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Advance registration is required so if you are interested in this please contact the parish office by Monday, November 19. Cost per participant is $10 and each person will receive a beautiful luminary that they helped create. For more information on Ray Boswell, please go to www.potteryretreat.com

ADVENT EVENINGS OF SCRIPTURE STUDY & REFLECTION- Fr. Ernie would like to invite you to join him for Advent Evenings of Scripture Study and Reflection. This will take place on four consecutive Friday evenings beginning on Friday, November 30th, 2018 at 7 pm in the parish center. Each week, the group will prayerfully reflect on the readings for each Sunday during advent as a way of preparing themselves for the celebration of Christmas. Through the program, participants will come to a deeper understanding of the readings, and will be given the opportunity to reflect on how the readings may be speaking to them today. Registration for the program is free, but pre-registration is required to participate and space is limited to 15 people. Stop by the parish office or contact Fr. Ernie for more information or to register for the program. CELEBRATING ADVENT- The season of Advent begins on Sunday, December 2 and is a joyous time of preparation for the coming of our Lord at Christmas. It is also a time to reflect on the loving presence of Jesus already among us and within us. For ideas on how to celebrate this special season, please try these websites: www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/liturgical-year/advent www.loyolapress.com/liturgical-year-advent-activities.htm www.catholicmom.com/advent_kids.htm

Bring the family, bring your friends, all are welcome to be a part of this fun afternoon. Finger foods and beverages will be served. $25 for family $10 individual. Reserva-tions are required. Call the parish office 255-5635 x100 or e-mail [email protected]

CYO SHINING STARS- The CYO Shining Star Youth Award honors and gives recognition to the young people who have made a positive impact on their school and community. This year’s winner for St. Joseph’s is Rebecca Bendell. We are so proud of her as well as all of our young people who are making a real impact on the world around them. Congratulations, Rebecca!

PARISH CHILD CARE FOR MASS TIME- Are you an adult or teen who enjoys being with babies and toddlers? Would you like to build up our parish by helping parents and their young children? St. Joseph is starting a new ministry in the Mother's Chapel that will support young families, and we're looking for volunteers to assist parents and offer age-appropriate catechesis to their young ones during mass. Volunteers will serve on a rotating schedule, and training and materials will be provided. This is a great opportunity for teens, grandparents, and anyone else who'd like to live their faith by providing a welcoming and faith-based witness to our young families. For details, contact Joanna Schroer ([email protected]) or

leave your name in the parish office 255-5635 x100.

BEREAVEMENT GROUP– catholic Charities will be sponsoring a bereavement group for those who have lost loved ones to addiction. It will be here at St. Joseph’s in the library of our parish center and each session will run from 7:00-8:15 P.M. Meetings will be on November 19, December 17, January 7, January 21, February 4 and February 18. This is a safe, non-judgmental forum in which you can talk, share, support and be supported by others who have understand what you have experienced. Attendance is free and for more information please contact Laura Brovich at 845-344-5565.

CAMPUS MINISTRY- Are you a SUNY New Paltz student who would like to be a part of a vibrant Catholic community on campus? If so, Catholic Campus Ministry (CCM) may be what you are looking for. CCM meets every Wednesday night at 7:30 PM in the Student Union Building for fellowship, faith sharing, and pizza. CCM sponsored events include: community and parish service, retreats, weekly student masses, fun events, and an annual mission trip to the Dominican Republic. For more information contact Hank Grimsland, Catholic Campus Minister at: [email protected] or by phone at: 845-255-8536.

SMART SHOPPER CARDS- Did you know that you can contribute to your parish community just by buying your groceries? Through St. Joseph’s parish, you can purchase cards from ShopRite, Top’s and Hannaford’s that can be used towards purchases at those stores. The best part is that for every $100 you spend using these cards, St. Joseph’s Parish receives $5.00 which goes toward maintaining the parish and the many activities we sponsor. The cards are available in $20, $25, $50, and $100 amounts and can be purchased using cash, check, or credit card. Please stop by the parish center during business hours (Monday-Thursday, 9:30-4:00 and Friday 9:30-1:00) to purchase these cards. And don’t forget they make great gifts as well. LOW GLUTEN ALTAR BREADS: are available at our church. Parishioners who are gluten intolerant should see the priest before Mass so that a low-gluten host can be placed on the altar for consecration. At Communion time, please come forward with the Eucharistic Ministers and receive the Body and Blood of Christ with them. Totally gluten-free hosts are not available, so for those gluten-intolerant persons who cannot receive even the low-gluten host, they can of course still receive the Precious Blood from the chalice. Catholics believe that whether Holy Communion is received under the form of bread or under the form of wine, the whole Christ is being received. Please see one of the friars if you have any questions concerning this. LET US KNOW YOUR CHANGES- If you have recently moved or changed your phone number, please let the parish office know. We need to keep the information in our parish census as up-to-date as possible so that we can assure you receive the information we send out to you. Thank you! 255-5635

CAPUCHIN MISSION ASSOCIATION ENROLLMENTS- The Capuchin Mission Association is a way through which mem-bers can become partners with Capuchin mis-sionaries who show the love of God to people in need throughout the world. By enrolling someone in the Association, that person will share in the spiritual benefits of the good works and the Masses that are celebrated by Capuchin friars throughout the developing world. This can be a wonderful gesture of kindness and faith and can be used as a remembrance of a deceased loved one; an expres-sion of sympathy for someone who has recently died; a re-quest for healing; or for a celebration of a special occasion like a anniversary, birthday, new baby etc. These enrollments come with a special card and are available at the parish office 9:30-4:00 M-Th, 9:30-1:00 Fri.
