THE WAY Today we sense the apostles’ trepidation as they begin to realize that the Lord would soon be leaving them. Masses for the Week — May 15-20

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” — John 14:6

Memorial Day at Calvary Catholic Cemetery Bishop Emeritus William Weigand will be celebrating Memorial Day Mass at Calvary Cemetery on Monday, May 29 at 10 am. Everyone is welcome to join in honor-ing those who have fallen in service to our country. OUR LADY OF FATIMA: May 9, 2017 is the 100th anniversary of our Lady of Fatima in Portugal, as she appeared 6 times to three young shepherds in 1917, in the mountainous region at the center of Portugal, near the town of Fatima between May 13 and October 13, 1917. The first child is Lucia Dos Santos, age 9, and her cous-ins, Francisco Marto who was 8 years old and Jacinta Marto who was 6 years old. The apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary was preceded by the apparition of an angel in spring 1916 who taught them the Fatima prayer very common now to those who pray the rosary. “Oh my Jesus, forgive us from our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven especially those who are most in need of thy mercy.” I would like to re-mind you, dear parishioners, that one day, the angel brought to the children Holy Communion that was seen by many witnesses. Remember dear parishioners, don’t take Holly Communion lightly. Message: The Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God told the 3 children that she was sent by God with a mes-sage to every man, woman and child living in our centu-ry. That time the world was in the 1st world war and bloody violence. Mary promised that Heaven would grant peace to the entire world if her requests for prayer, reparation and consecration were heard and obeyed. “If my requests are granted… there will be peace”, “if my requests are not granted, Russia will spread its errors (atheism) throughout the world, raising up wars and per-secutions against the Church. The good will be mar-tyred, the Holy Father will suffer much and various na-tions will be annihilated.” Our Lady of Fatima explained to the children that war is a punishment for sin and warned that God would further castigate the world for its disobedience to His will by means of war, hunger and the persecution of the Church, the Holy Father and the Catholic Faithful. God’s Mother prophesied that Russia would be God’s chosen “instrument of chastisement,” spreading the “errors” of atheism and materialism across the earth, fomenting wars, annihilating nations and persecuting the faithful everywhere. In her appearances at Fatima, the Blessed Mother re-peatedly emphasized the necessity of praying the Rosary daily, of wearing the Brown Scapular of Mount Carmel and of performing acts of reparations and sacrifice. The heart of Our Lady’s Message to the world is con-tained in what has come to be called the “secret” which She confided to the three children in July 1917. — continued on next page

Prayer for the week: “God our Father, you want more than anything else to share with us all the good things of your life. That is why you sent Jesus to tell us about it and show us the way. So when we get tired of doing good deeds, make us strong and determined again and help us to believe in you more and more. We pray this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.”

PASTOR’S CORNER — continued… The Vision of hell: the Blessed Virgin Mary stretched her hand. Her rays entered the earth that was opened. Chil-dren saw hell as an ocean of fire with damned souls screaming and suffering as they were thrown everywhere by the tongues of fire; a fire that penetrates but doesn’t kill. They could see also the demons in the fire looking like terrifying and repellent likeness to frightful and un-known animals, black and transparent like burning coals. By watching souls in hell, the children said that they would have died of fear if the Blessed Mother had not promised to take them to heaven. The Mother of God and our Mother asks us to pray and to sacrifice ourselves for saving souls. Dear parishioners, the world is on the edge of war, maybe WWIII. The expansion of nuclear arms in the hands of terrorists and senseless leaders is proof that it can start anytime. Worse the lack of God that the world is embrac-ing will only push things to the worse. Nowadays there is an increase of atheism, the support and tolerance of sinful behavior is what the Blessed Virgin Mary warned us for in Fatima and she is doing the same in Medjugorje. So many people have chosen to harden their hearts, don’t be one of them. The three children prayed and fasted and many people in Portugal followed after them. Churches that were closed or threatened by the communists were opened, and the WWI that killed so many people in Europe never reached Portugal. “If you pray and fast you can stop wars and nat-ural disasters said the Blessed Virgin Mary in Medjugor-je. As predicted by the Blessed Virgin Mary, Jacinta and Francisco Marto died young at 10 and 11 years old, while Lucia Dos Santos died February 13, 2005 in the Carmel-ite convent of Coimbra in Portugal. She was 97 years. Dear parishioners, if we would listen to the Blessed Vir-gin Mary and put in practice what she is teaching us, this world can be saved. Can you start today? God bless Father Bernardin Mugabo
