Parish Pastoral Council Approved Minutes of the September 12, 2018 Meeting

Present: Steve Bacher, Ernesto Basto, Frank Semmelmayer, Lynn Middy, Don Reimer (Business Manager), Fr.

Satish, Allison Tayloe, Ricardo Perez, Misa Cadua, Fran Hary, Mary Heider (recording secretary). Brian Miller

and Katie Mannix have resigned from the Council for personal reasons and steps will be taken to fill their posi-

tions.

Scripture reflection: The Gospel discussion generated a lot of questions. Fr. Satish is happy to do a talk on the

Gospel of Mark or an introduction to the New Testament if people are interested.

Approval of August 2018 Minutes: A motion was made and seconded to approve the August minutes. The mo-

tion carried and the minutes were approved.

Selection of PPC Vice President: Frank Semmelmayer agreed to take on the VP position, with the thanks of the

council.

Presentation on the Liturgy (Mary): “What are ways we can try to help you experience the Mass more deeply,

to help you pray and praise and go forth to serve? What works now? What needs improvement? What captures

your attention?” Fr. Satish asked “do you feel fed?” Discussion ensued: Most of the visiting priests do a nice job

with the homilies and coming forth into the assembly, relating to real life; comfort in the ritual; some proclaimers

of the word needing to step up to the microphone and begin with more volume; people need a greater understand-

ing of the Eucharist; personality-driven Masses are not the way to go; after receiving the Eucharist, how many of

us go back and do our own thing? Suggestions were offered as to how to enter into the Mass more purposefully,

including sitting with the Scripture readings ahead of time; considering ahead of time what we want to bring to the

altar ourselves; asking how we can serve God this day.

Facility Update Mass and inauguration on Sept 30 after the 10:30 Mass. PPC members are encouraged to be part of both or at

least the ceremony and reception.

Pastor’s report Shaughn Phillips, who had been our Pastoral Associate for Adult Faith Formation, has taken another position. We

have not advertised yet, but Father is having good conversations with people who are asking about the parish. In

the meantime, Shawn Kalis and Dan Thomas are running RCIA, and Jon and Deb Danner are taking over the Bap-

tism class.

Based on info and discussions with the Buildings and Grounds Committee, we will pursue a plan for a cafeteria/

parish facility but instead of asking architect to give us a plan and tell us what it costs, we will say this is what we

have, this is what we need; what can we get with this amount of money. The answer will determine how we move

forward.

Fr. Satish will present his experience of going to the border at El Paso, TX at Immaculate Conception on Wednes-

day, September 26.

Good of the Order followed by Night Prayer
