Suicide Bereavement

On Saturday January 14, 2017 Monsignor Joe said a memorial Mass for all souls lost to suicide. Father Joe's homily was beautiful, powerful and brought peace to many survivors. Members of You're Not Alone joined others grieving the tragic loss of their loved one, came together to pray and compassionately share their grief as it is said "joys shared are doubled and grief shared is halved."

~If you are struggling or know someone who is, please reach out for help and support call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline 800-273-8255.

The Suicide Bereavement Group “You are Not Alone” meets the 1st Monday of every month at 7pm. The next meeting is February 6th.

For information call Pat Karpowicz at 631 266-2656 for location and information.

On January 14, 2017 a Memorial Mass was given to all the souls lost to suicide.

One of the most important members of our family of faith are our priests — the Fathers who are there for us day in and day out throughout our lives. Ordained in June of 2015, Fr. Sean Magaldi grew up in Williston Park where he attended Mass with his family at Saint Aidan Parish. It was in his junior year at Chaminade High School that he first started thinking about studying to be a priest.

"The priesthood was something that I started thinking about in high school; throughout college it was in the back of my mind but I wasn't ready to take the next step to enter the seminary. After graduating from college, I started working as a Catholic Campus Minister at Hofstra University. Working with the students at Hofstra helped me realize that God was calling me to be a priest and I needed to enter the seminary." Father Magaldi cur-rently serves as an Associate Pastor at St. Patrick in Smithtown where he shared his goals as a priest. "My goal is to get as many people to heaven as possible — including myself— to journey with the people of our Diocese in growing closer to Christ."

JANUARY 22, 2017 3rd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME “He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed him.” Peter, Andrew, James, and John’s lives would never be the same. They were going about their usual business--fishing on the Sea of Galilee--when Jesus approached them and said, “Come after me.” And that’s just what they did. “At once they left their nets and followed him.” Such a quick response to such a radi-cal request! What compelled these men to leave their livelihood to follow the Lord? His promise to them was that he would make them “fishers of men.” Perhaps they thought that promise sounded fabulous. But it seems more likely that it was Christ himself who drew the men. There must have been something utterly attractive about him, & completely trustworthy. Otherwise, it seems unbelievable that these men would have been so quick to respond to his call. This compelling man is the same Christ who calls us. We hear his voice in a different way, of course, through the Church and through the Bible, through his Spirit in our hearts, but it is nonetheless the same Jesus of Nazareth who asks us to follow him. Have we allowed ourselves to be drawn by his voice? Are we open to a real encounter with the Lord who changes lives? If our relationship with Jesus does not transform us, if it does not change us into different, better people moment by moment and day by day, then chances are that we are not truly encountering him. He is too powerful to be in-consequential. It might take some courage and commit-ment to come into authentic contact with the Lord, but when we do, our lives will never be the same.

My good deed for this week:

Sacrificial Giving 2016

I helped wake up my big sister for school. I helped clean up Christmas    decorations. I helped put out chairs. I helped clean up toys. I helped bake cookies. I helped shopping. I helped my brother get    dressed. I helped mommy do         laundry.

Did We Take a Step?

The watchword today is “immediately.” Peter and Andrew, James and John all respond immediately to the call of Christ.

May I be as open to God’s call and as ready to use my talent in His service as those first disciples were!

Sr. Pamela

The Daughters of Divine Love Congregation are engaged in a variety of apostolates in different parts of the world, in-cluding United States of America, Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, Germany, England, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, France, Nige-ria, Chad, Gabon, Cameroon, Mali and Kenya. We minister in all walks of life where manifestation of God’s love is needed.

Our Apostolates include: Working among the very poor: the rejected, the homeless, challenged children and adults, homes for battered women and children, babies affected by drugs; School work: Teachers, Teacher-aids, Counselors and Caretakers. Hospital work: as Doctors, Nurses, Administrators, Pharmacists, Chaplains. Parish Apostolate: Pastor-assistants, Religious Education, Eucharistic ministers, CCD and RCIA teachers. And youth ministries.

Our source of income is very limited to stipends, donations and an appeal fund. We really do need your help in order to continue these apostolates, especially in Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti and African countries.

Sr. Pamela will be here at St. Anthony’s on the weekend of January 28th and 29th collecting donations for her mission in Haiti.

Eucharistic Ministers Needed for Hospital Duty

on Thursdays after the 9AM Mass. The Priest dismisses the Ministers with a blessing, and they proceed to Huntington Hospital. Usually the return is around 11:30 am. There are presently 4 Teams, each going once every 4 weeks. For those who are able to partake in this

Ministry of bringing Jesus in the Holy Eucharist to the patients at Huntington Hospital, it is truly a gift & full of graces!

One Hour With Him Why do members pray before the exposed sacrament?

When praying before the Eucharist exposed, the mind and heart more easily give themselves to communion with Christ. By focusing attention on the sacramental sign of the memorial of the Lord in a spirit of adoration, thanksgiving, atone-ment, and petition, members seek to internalize and give witness to the significance of the Eucharist for Christian life.

Why do members pray at night? For reasons of convenience. For many people living in a fast-paced society, a night hour is often more easily set aside for prayer than one during the day and lends itself to praying in quiet, calm, and recollection. For reasons of symbolism. Keeping vigil during the hours of the night, an ancient tradition among Christians, draws attention to God as the source of light and goodness amid human weakness and sin, and also stimulates a sense of spiritual preparedness and expecta-tion.

Can you keep watch with me for one hour? Yes, Father I would like to keep watch for one hour with the Nocturnal Adoration Society Name _____________________________________________________________ Address _________________________________________Town/State/Zip___________________ Phone ________________________________________________Email_______________________________

Nocturnal Adoration is an association of Catholics – no age limit – dedicated to prayer in the name of the whole community and of the Church, before the Blessed Eucharist, for the praise of God and for the needs of the church and the world at large. The night of adoration is the First Friday of every month.
