Dear Parishioners, Let me wish you all a Blessed Easter! May the risen Christ fill your lives with hope! We have been preparing ourselves this Lenten sea-son to celebrate the resur-rection of Christ. We spent time in reflection and prayer to see in what way we can become bet-

ter people, lead virtuous lives, remove selfishness and the influences of sin from our lives. We are celebrating the resurrection of Christ who conquered the grave, darkness, evil and sin. This gives us new hope that we too can overcome sin and its effects in our lives! In the Gospel of Luke we read that early in the morning, the women went to the tomb where Jesus was buried. They were surprised to see two angels who announced to them that Jesus was indeed risen from the dead. The Apostles scoffed at them after hearing their story. But Peter ran to the tomb. He ran to the tomb because he was driven by hope. Living for Christ is living in hope. Easter Sunday tells us of the hope that brings new life. Let this Easer help us to dare to hope and live in the newness of life that Christ came to give us. Let us be beacons of hope for our world! I will be away in India after Easter. I will return on the 14th of April. My dad is 80 and my mom is 77. I try to spend a few days with them every year. I will be with them after Easter. Please, pray that I have a safe jour-ney. During my absence Fr. Chris Arokiaraj who teach-es at St. Patrick’s Seminary, Menlo Park, will be taking my place taking care of your pastoral needs. You can contact him through the Parish Office for your pastoral needs. Wish you all a Blessed Easter! Yours sincerely, Fr. Jose Shaji, Pastor

REST Signature Cards Campaign St. Anselm Parish continues to be a support to those who find themselves without a home. The REST (Rotating Emergency Shelter Team) season is coming to an end. We have been providing companionship, dinners and a place to sleep for up to 40 men every Saturday night (including last night) during the winter months for the last eight years. This is a hard time for the REST guests as they face the instability of shelter in the coming months. We invite you to continue your support by gather-ing signatures in promoting a year-round, permanent location for REST. We have over 1,000 signed cards from throughout the County toward our goal of 6,000. The cards will be presented to Supervisorial candidates on May 12th to show those, running for office, that there is a large constituency that supports this project. You can make a difference! Your signature, and any that you can gather, will help us take the Rotating out of REST. To obtain more signature cards or arrange to return signed cards, please email: [email protected]. Please return your signed cards as soon as possible.

Thank you for your help in spreading the word.

Happy Easter

Then and Now. Did you know St. Anselm Church was established in August 1907? This was because many families decided to flee San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake. Archbishop Patrick W. Riodan established the new parish. The first pastor was Fr. John Thomas Egan, who had been the assistant rector at St. Raphael. Fr. Egan moved quickly to establish his new assignment. After one month, the new church rectory site, part of Fern Hill tract (corner of Shady Lane and Bolinas Ave.) was purchased for $2,250 from James Tunstead and Andrew Silling. Almost $30,000 was raised from indi-vidual pledges and social events. Parishioners, many whose names are on the church stained glass windows, donated physical labor and construction materials. The circular front window (depicting St. Anselm) was a donation from St. Raphael’s YLI. On 11/22/08, the Archbishop dedicated the church “This beautiful edifice will be a great joy and lasting benefit, not only for you who are now present, but for many yet to come within the parish.” Ross Historical Society Fortunately, parishioners continue to donate to the building fund, to maintain this beautiful century old building, for generations to come.
