22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

This is one of the long weekends with Labor Day on Monday, ending our summer vacation

time for children and youth, and setting us for intense part of the year regarding school commitments

that bring intensity to parents schedules, coordinating work and attending to children with all after

school activities, among which as parish we prepare for Family Faith Formation. Starting these new

commitments we need energy, grace and resolve to do well whatever we will have to take on. It is

great, that we can have this weekend to celebrate and to prepare.

Those material celebrations of this long weekend will have for us as well special spiritual

expression of participation at Mass and honoring the Blessed Mother under the title of Our Lady of

Cisne, that is celebrated by the people of Ecuador. Ecuador it is a beautiful country located on the

equator, just in the middle of the globe where the day and night always have 12 hours with minimal differences. It is a blessed

country with great people, nature and climate. They have great reasons to honor the Blessed Mother as their country is very close

to be a paradise on earth. So this Saturday at 7:00pm Mass we will honor the Blessed Mother with the title of Our Lady of Cisne.

After Mass we will have a party in the basement of the church prepared by our Ecuadorian community. All are invited to the feast.

It is good that we can express our love for the Mother of Our Lord, and entrust to her all that is in our hearts. We give her

all joys and blessings, and we give her all our troubles and sorrows. She responds to us always and guides us on the way to heaven.

Next weekend we will celebrate the birthday of the Blessed Mother, and so on Saturday, September 15th we will celebrate her un-

der the title of Our Lady of Sorrows. Could we get tired of celebrating the Blessed Mother ??? Can we stop running to her with

joys, hopes and victories of our lives??? Or even more; can we stop running to the Blessed Mother with our: concerns, troubles,

sorrows, hurts and disappointments ???

Even now, with further knowledge of the abuses in the Church by the clergy, we need to double our knees before the Lord,

we need to stand under the cross with the Blessed Mother to be protected from loosing our faith and from being separated from the

saving action of Christ in the Church.

As Bishop Barres stated, it is time for us to be converted and renewed, to be purified and sanctified. There is no place for

any form of abuse in the Church and we as a Diocese and as a parish are committed to it together with the Holy Father and the

whole Catholic Church to weed it out. Our human relationships have to be of respect and dignity for every person equally, with

special attention to protect our children and youth from any form of abuse.

It should make us reflect more widely on our society, where much of sexual integrity has been compromised and

consented to as normal, for example breaking of family unity. Any sexual infidelity to promises made, be it by priests, bishops,

cardinals, or spouses are scandalous. We got used to marital infidelities, to marriage breakdown, to divorce, to numerous remarriag-

es as something normal, without admitting that behind every broken relationship there are broken promises, broken hearts, broken

lives, hurting and confused children, betrayed wives and husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends. There are sexual predators in every

walk of life, be it priests or bishops, or husbands or wives, it causes similar hurts, pains and disappointments, betrayal and scandal

to those affected by it. How many priests and bishops walked away from their promises??? How many husbands or wives walked

away from theirs???

Seems we justify more easily marriage infidelity, because we admit that humans are broken. It is harder to deal with

priestly infidelity because we hold them accountable to much higher standard. That standard is nothing less then holiness. Anything

lower may be scandalous to those who want to become scandalized at the broken humanity of a priest, deacon, or bishop. Fact is,

that as priests, deacons, and bishops we represent the Church, we stand for Christ in his place, and holding that position of

authority, liturgical leadership and responsibility, we stand on a pedestal that may create insane clericalism instead of leadership.

That position of leadership requires humility of service to God and to people as it is expressed in the washing of the feet on Holy

Thursday.

So no surprise there is a great expectation of holiness from us, since the One that we stand for is Christ himself, and so, we

too promised to give our lives for the sheep as Jesus did, so anything less is unacceptable. Let’s be on our way to become more and

more Christlike. Let’s pray for each other and for all people, that the goal of our lives and service may be to become like Christ for

everyone.

This weekend our second collection is dedicated to our Summer priests, Fr. Ingrid and Fr. Milciades. Let us be generous

with them as they were with us over the summer through service and availability.

Next weekend we have our yearly procession for Blessed Mother from St. Luke’s to St Anne’s this year. I want to make

thr procession not only with the statue of the Blessed Mother, but as well with the Blessed Sacrament. It may have even more

significance especially now in those troubled times for the Church and for our individual faith.

We may say with the disciples of Emaus: Stay with us Lord for the night draws near......

Meet Our new Youth Minister

Tony Bellizzi is our new parish Youth Minister.

Tony brings 46 years experience to the

position. He is no stranger\ to St Anne's,

having conducted the Confirmation retreats

here for over 20 years. Tony also currently

leads parish youth ministries at St Gerard in

Port Jefferson Station, Long Island and

Holy Family in New Rochelle, Westchester.

Tony is also a volunteer prison minister, working with the youth at the

Juvenile Detention Center in Westbury for over 20 years. As a lay

Catholic evangelist he annually conducts hundreds of retreat programs

mostly in the New York area, but also around the United States.

Tony is founder and director of the Hope for the Children Foundation,

an organization committed to empowering youth and alleviating suffering

among the poorest of the poor within the United Sates and

Internationally. These connections allow Tony to provide mission trip ex-

periences.

Tony is happy and honored to work under Fr. Stan and be part of the St Anne’s family. He

shares Fr. Stan’s vision that in a community like Brentwood with so many teens and so many

negative influences we need to be willing to do whatever it takes to bring as many teens to

Christ as possible.

Domingo XXII-B del Tiempo Ordinario

Dt. 4,1-2-8…De donde le vienen a Israel ser una gran nación? Ex. 46 dice que el

total de la familia de Jacob que emigro a Egipto era “de setenta”, consecuente-

mente su desarrollo en Egipto y el acceso a la Tierra Prometida que hoy anuncia

Moisés es “acción de Dios”, realmente desde la fe lo que hace a una nación, la

familia, la Iglesia misma, “un pueblo sabio e inteligente” es: aceptar la cercanía

de Dios, de uno que dicta mandatos y decretos justos q habrá que imitar…Esta

misma nación donde vivimos (U.S.) no sería lo que es sin la herencia cristiana que

le dio origen. St. 1,17-18.21b-22.27…El Apóstol nos da pauta hoy de lo que es “religión verdadera”. Algunas

veces pensamos que no faltar a misa, rezar el Rosario o la Coronilla y la Hora Santa es suficien-

te (parece que no) …La religión pura e intachable a los ojos de Dios Padre es esta: visitar

huérfanos y viudas en sus tribulaciones y no mancharse las manos con este mundo. El domingo

pasado, en el Evangelio, algunos discípulos murmuraban: “Este lenguaje es duro…Jesús dijo:

¿Esto les escandaliza? …Pedro replico: Señor, donde ir, tu tienes palabras de vida…y es el

Cristo de Dios.”

Mc. 7,1-8.14-15.21-23 …También hoy Jesús pone las cosas claras…Algunos criti-

caban a los discípulos por comer con las manos impuras…Y Jesús replico: “Este

pueblo me honra con los labios, pero su corazón está vacío, porque la doctrina

que ensenan son preceptos humanos”, hoy dio (Jesús) “el diagnostico de cada

JESUS ET LES PHARISIENS (Marc 7, 1-8)

Les pharisiens sont un groupe de purs c’est-à-dire qu’ils sont reconnus pour être les

conservateurs de la pureté de la loi. Souvent ils deviennent scrupuleux et on les a

traités d’hypocrites parce qu’ils exigeaient des autres ce qu’ils ne pouvaient accomplir

eux-mêmes. Pour rester fidèles à la tradition, ils exigent jusqu’aux moindres détails de

la loi et s’ils observent Jésus et ses disciples, c’est pour les prendre en défaut.

Qu’on demande à Jésus pourquoi ses disciples n’observent pas la tradition.

Qu’est-ce que la tradition ?

Une tradition est une coutume qui s’est établie par la pratique pendant un certain temps. La tradition

est une institution d’hommes. Sous prétexte de conserver la tradition, de garder les habitudes de

notre enfance, il ne faudrait pas devenir superstitieux. N’oublions jamais que la meilleure des

dévotions, c’est accomplir la volonté de Dieu manifeste par le devoir d’état.
