30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
This week we have the last days of October with Halloween, and than we
celebrate all the Saints on November 1st, and we pray for All Souls on November
2nd. At every Mass our prayers always include our family members who died, but
in November we pray for them in particular, we visit graves and cemeteries.
Halloween with its cultural tendency keeps promoting the - scary and dark-
characters, but in All Saints we celebrate -all light and bright- Saints- characters
that bring us closer to God and it’s light. We just need to remember, that all cultures
have references to the- dark and scary- but the important thing is to balance it with
the- good and happy- that is the ultimate winner in Christian tradition.
We pray for All Souls whom we entrust to divine mercy, asking God for their quick admission to
heaven if they should be in purgatory for any reason of unrepented sins, or any unfinished business or
injustice of this life that would hold them back until the proper reparation is done by others for their
intentions. We are encouraged to pray and to make sacrifices and offerings on behalf of faithful departed
asking God’s mercy for them. The best spiritual gift that we can give them, is to offer a Mass intention for
them and we can do it for the novena of Masses for All Souls, or individually for a particular person now, or
even multiple times during the year, for example on their birthday or the day of passing away. Our remem-
brance is our expression of our love for them and our desire to be in communion with them after we should
die. As we pray for them, the faithful departed do intercede for our acquiring heaven. It’s called -
Communion of Saints - Communion with those who are before God already.
In the Gospel of this Sunday, we have found Jesus making it simple as possible for us, to comprehend
the requirements of salvation: to love God and our neighbor as oneself. That is the summary of the teaching
of the Bible. This is in shortest terms what we need to do to be saved. To give space to God in our life, to
seek God’s mercy and to treat others with kindness it is a way of salvation, it is a way of responding to Christ
and to God’s revelation of love. It seems as simple as it can be, and in fact it is not too difficult for anyone to
do it. It’s enough to admit our need for God, and to open our heart to others in kindness. It seems so easy and
is requires only a little of good will. Sometimes we may be making our lives very complicated, or difficult in
our relationships, but it could be very simple if we wanted it.
Lord, help us to respond to the simplicity of
the Gospel call. As you said: you didn’t come to be
served but to serve and to give your life as a ransom
for many “, so please help us to have the same attitude
and approach to life so we could be worthy of your
love and of heaven. It’s so simple, and I will not
complicate it by more explanation.
God bless everyone !!!
God bless America !!!

From the Deacon’s Bench
By Deacon John
Once again the seasons of the year continue to prompt us forward. Summer is a distant, if not hot and humid memory, as we turn now to the fall of this year. Just like the annual seasons change, so to does the liturgical year continue to change.
In just a few weeks really, we begin Advent! Advent begins our new church year, and preparation for the Feast of Christmas. With all the gift giving, it’s a good thing to take a step back and help prepare our selves for the Birth of the Savior and perhaps give our selves a gift along the way. Beginning November 9, 2017 and lasting approximately 8 sessions, we will have the opportunity to share in out next Bible Study here at St. Anne’s. This time we are going back a long way into our shared history and will study the Prophet Jeremiah.
Jeremiah (who was not a Bull Frog – anyone remember that song?), lived in a time of great fear, uncertainty, intrigue, wars and rumors of war, personal attacks as a result of what you believe in, faith and the lack of faith. Sounds kind of like 2017 doesn’t it?
Your study of this great man of faith, this hero of Israel, will help acquaint you with the life and times of our “Elder Brothers and Sisters of faith, the Jewish People” (Pope Saint John Paul II said that!). It is only knowing where we came from that we can really know who we are, and how we come to believe what we do in Jesus Christ.
This study is for everyone. If you are a veteran of bible study or if you never have picked up the Good Book, you are invited. At our first session on 11/9/17 at 7pm in the large room in the rectory basement. That night, I will give and overview of the Prophet’s writing, discuss what prophecy is and what’s it not. Detail the people we will meet and the places we will go in our studies. That said, I will also give an over view of how to begin studying the bible some tips and tools to assist you. In other words we have a “basic training” to get you up and running. If you have a bible, bring it along. If not, no worries, materials are available.
Please consider joining us as we prepare our selves for Christmas, we all know how hectic it will be and how often we say we need to slow things down. Here is your opportunity to do just that. Please feel free to stop me with any questions you may have! You must register at the Parish Office we a limited in space.
