The Good Shepherd!“I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. A hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf !catches and scatters them. This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep.” (Jn 10:1115).!!
In this weekend Gospel, Jesus describes his relationship with his followers as similar to the !relationship between a good shepherd and his sheep. As a good shepherd will risk and lay down his life in order to protect his sheep, Jesus has willingly sacrificed himself for the sake of us, his sheep. Jesus contrasts the actions of the good shepherd with the actions of the hired shepherd who abandons the sheep in the face of danger. The concern of a good shepherd for his sheep is part of the shepherd’s job. Jesus says, however, that the actions of the good shepherd are based upon the relationship that develops between the shepherd and the sheep. This is at the heart of the difference between the good shepherd and the hired shepherd. The good shepherd knows the sheep and therefore acts out of love. For the Good Shepherd, this is never simply part of a job; this loveinaction is integral to his identity with and for each of us.!
Collaboration Task Force
A group of volunteers from St Albert the Great and St Francis Xavier and the St Francis Xavier School community, began meeting last August and have been jointly meeting since November. We have gone over the surveys conducted at each parish last Fall, which provided valuable insight into our parishioner’s concerns and suggestions. This Collaborative Task Force has been meeting in place of the Pastoral Council and their goal is to write a Pastoral Plan for the Collaborative of St. Albert and St. Francis Xavier. This Pastoral Plan will guide and implement the goals and objectives needed to fulfill Disciples in Mission. We are looking for any input you may want to provide. Topics we are working on are: Welcoming, Faith Formation, Community and Communication.
We are reaching out for any suggestions which concern themselves with Welcoming, Faith Formation, Community and Communication. Your additional input will help us make the Collaboration of St. Albert and St. Francis Xavier be the best that we can be. Ideas can be emailed to our Task Force at [email protected]
