Welcome,Sport Western has been offering day camp programming for over 30 years, making our camps a tradition for many families in London and the surrounding communities. That tradition continues again this year with registration now

open for all 2010 summer camps.

We strive to challenge all campers in a fun, supportive environment that will encourage a life-long involvement in sport and academics. Sport Western takes great pride in our selection of staff, and they in turn take great care in creating age- and skill-appropriate programming that will encourage all campers to improve in and enjoy their chosen activity.

Over the past 30 years, our range and selection of programming has broadened to increase options for campers and provide a wide range of skill development. We have expanded some of our programming this summer to accommodate

our growing numbers, offering you more selection when planning your child’s activities.

Sport Western strives to maintain a healthy, positive environment for all campers. It is with this in mind that we ask you to pay special attention to our policies and code of behaviour. We are grateful for your continued support, and for allowing us to be a part of your child’s development and experience growing up. Please do not hesitate to contact us

if you have any questions.

See you this summer!

(All parents MUST produce valid picture ID and be on the safe list to sign-out their child.) Please take care when registering your child if you want greater flexibility provided to your child for

early and late SupervisionIf you require supervision for your child prior to 8:30a.m. or after 4:30p.m., you can register for our Early or Late Supervision Program. This program includes supervised unstructured

activities at the Sport Western drop-off / pick-up zone. Early Supervision: 7:30 - 8:30a.m. (Cost: $15) Late Supervision: 4:30 - 5:30p.m. (Cost: $15)

*Please select your early or late supervision requirements while registering online or on the registration form for in-person, mail,

and fax registrations.

Note: No Supervision will be offered beyond 5:30p.m.. If you do not pick up your child by 5:30p.m., you will be charged $15

for each additional 30 minutes or part thereof. Campers who are NOT registered for Late Supervision that

have NOT been picked up by 4:30 p.m. will be charged $10.

SwimmingThe majority of Sport Western camps (with few exceptions) offer a daily half-hour recreational swim (based on operational availability). All morning camps (9a.m. - 12p.m.) feature the swim session on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. All afternoon camps (1 - 4p.m.) feature the swim session on Tuesday & Thursday. Full day camps (9a.m. - 4p.m.) will offer the swim

session every day. This schedule ensures that all campers who participate in a different morning and afternoon camp will swim only once each day. Please look for the “swimmer” icon in the camp listings to make certain that specific camps offer

the recreational swim component.

Swims take place in the Western Student Recreation Centre pool. Campers are supervised by certified lifeguards, and counsellors who have received pool training to assist those guards. The pool itself is 1.35 meters (4.4 feet) deep in the shallow end and 3.4 meters (11.2 feet) deep in the deep end. If you would prefer that your child wear a life jacket at all times, please indicate so during the online registration process or on the registration form. On the first designated swim-day your child will be asked to perform a swimming test. The swimming test requires the child to swim across the width of the shallow-end of the pool (counsellors are present in the water to supervise and assist if necessary). Any camper who does not pass the test will be required to wear a life jacket, regardless of whether he/she has passed any swimming levels. Whether a child passes a swim test is at the sole discretion of the trained lifeguard on duty. When the camper is dropped off on their first day, please confirm lifejacket requirements with his/her counsellor. * Pool side activities will be provided and supervised, should a camper

decide not to swim on a given day.

lunchAll campers who are enrolled in a full-day camp, plus any campers that have combined a separate morning and afternoon camp, will participate in a supervised lunch. Lunch takes place at the University Community Centre Spot, the University’s main food court on campus. Campers have the option of bringing

Page 6: Sport Western 2010 Summer Camps

their own lunch or registering for the Sport Western Lunch Plan offered by Food Services.

lunch PlanA full lunch service is available to Sport Western campers on a daily basis at the Centre Spot Food Court located in the University Community Centre. This service is only offered to campers who are enrolled in a full-day or combined morning & afternoon camp. Each day, participants will have the option to choose from a selection of meals. Each lunch includes a main course item, a snack choice, and a drink. Meal options and pricing can be referenced on our website at westernmustangs.ca. Campers who bring money to purchase lunch will only be permitted to visit the Centre Spot cafeteria. If selected, you must commit to the lunch service for the length of the camp

session that you are registered for.

food allergies* Remember, Sport Western is a Nut-Free Zone! All campers eat in designated areas and we request that campers do not bring any foods that contain nuts (e.g. peanut butter, granola bars, etc). We are unable control all of the foods and odours that campers may be exposed to at camp, although our counsellors do pay close attention to any allergies/medical concerns identified during the registration process. If your child has any food allergies, we ask that you note this on your child’s application or when registering online. We will make every

attempt to accommodate their needs.

What to Wear and bring to campAll children should wear comfortable clothes, including shorts, T-shirt, and running shoes suitable for physical activity (white-soled running shoes are preferred). For cool days, a sweatshirt would be beneficial. For rainy days, a rain jacket or umbrella is recommended during drop-off/pick-up time and daily transitions. It is strongly recommended that children wear hats while outdoors (to shade their heads from the sun) and wear sunscreen. A water bottle is recommended to help replenish water loss experienced by physical activity in warm weather (counsellors will stop frequently for water breaks and bottle refills). A bathing suit and towel are needed for the recreational swim (unless the swim component is not included in the camp) - *see swimming section for details. Please label all items coming to camp (e.g. bathing suit, towel, and lunch bag). Campers are reminded not to bring items of value that are not required at camp (e.g. MP3/iPod, cell phones, and excessive

amounts of money).

children with Special needsSport Western is committed to the inclusion of all campers. If your child requires support in order to attend camp, please complete the Combined Inclusion Form (available online via the ‘General Camp Information’ section). We are dedicated to providing all campers with an environment that will encourage social and physical development, and must ensure that staffing resources are sufficient to accomplish this goal. Occasionally, additional support outside of our camp staff is required and our

camp coordinator may request that you provide this support. *The Combined Inclusion Form must accompany the registration form (for in-person, mail, or fax registration). For

online registration, please complete the form as prompted.

T-shirtsAll Sport Western camps include a camp T-shirt. Children enrolled in multiple camps will only receive one T-shirt for the summer. *Please note that some camps provide their own sport-specific T-shirt/Jersery (e.g. Mustangs football,

basketball, volleyball, Mustang soccer, and field hockey).

attendanceAttendance is taken at the beginning of each day (at 1:00p.m. for afternoon camps). If your child is absent on the attendance list, a Sport Western representative will first call home, then the parent’s work to confirm that your child is absent. If you know in advance that your child will be absent from camp, we ask

that you call Sport Western (519.661.2007) and let us know.
